Folks Who Get It: Evil Knievel Is Gone But Finally Gets To "Touch The Sky"

Does This Mean Kanye West Still Has To Pay Up?

Cool breeze Evel Knievel, the flamboyant motorcycle stuntman whose thrilling triumphs and spectacular failures enshrined him as America's consummate daredevil, died today at 69 in Clearwater, Florida. The White boy with huge kahoneas passed only three days after it was announced that he and rapper Kanye West had settled a federal lawsuit over the use of the legendary daredevil's trademarked name and likeness in West's "Touch The Sky" music video. Check it out:

Knievel, who survived at least 38 broken bones, multiple concussions and countless abrasions acquired in daring jumps that ended in unplanned crashes, had been in failing health for years, including suffering from diabetes and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, an incurable condition that scarred his lungs. This cat just took a lickin and kept on tickin thoughout those early years. The L.A Times breaks it down.

Murder Of Redskins Baller Sean Taylor: Possible Suspects In Custody Include Teens & A Man In His 20's

(Taylor with the biracial baby girl who'll never know her father)

BREAKING NEWS: The Miami Herald is reporting that police have detained at least three people in the Fort Myers area for questioning in the death of Washington Redskins football star Sean Taylor.

A law enforcement official in Lee County confirmed the men from the Fort Myers area were in custody, but requested anonymity because the investigation is being handled by Miami-Dade County police.

The Miami Herald, which first reported the development on its Web site, said investigators believe three suspects learned of Taylor’s house through someone who unwittingly set up the burglary by bragging about his wealth. The suspects include two teenagers and a man in his 20s, all from the Fort Myers area, the paper reported.

Is Talylor's Death A Sad Reminder For Us All?

Richard Sharpstein, a former Taylor lawyer and family friend, said: “It looks like the police are pursuing extremely good leads. It appears that the burglary was exactly as I’ve always stated, not random, that Sean’s house was targeted.” Evidence at Taylor’s home indicated one or more intruders barged into the house early Monday in an attempted burglary, Miami-Dade police director Robert Parker said Wednesday. After a confrontation inside the home, Taylor was shot once in the upper leg and died early Tuesday after losing a tremendous amount of blood.

Taylor’s family has scheduled a funeral service for 11 a.m. Monday at Pharmed Arena at Florida International University in Miami.

Outraged Black Sudanese Crowds Go Ape Over A Teddy Bear Being Named Muhammad By White British Teacher

These Folks Want The Woman's Head... Literally!

Thousands of Sudanese, many armed with clubs and knives, protested Friday outside the presidential palace in Khartoum, demanding the execution of a British teacher convicted of insulting Islam for allowing her students to name a teddy bear Muhammad.

In response to the demonstration, teacher Gillian Gibbons was moved from the women’s prison near Khartoum to a secret location for her safety, her lawyer said.

The protesters streamed out of mosques after Friday sermons, as pick-up trucks with loudspeakers blared messages against Gillian Gibbons, the teacher who was sentenced Thursday to 15 days in a women’s prison where the regime is extremely harsh by Western standards. Gibbons, 54, escaped a sentence of 40 lashes after apologizing to the court for any offense she had caused.

A Rastafarian Brotha Wants To Enlighten All You Non-Voting Ignorant Black People About Why You Need To Stop Trippin'

Michael Vick's Co-Defendants Get Their Chains Yanked

Quanis Phillips of Atlanta and Purnell Peace of Virginia Beach could have received up to five years in prison -- the same maximum former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick faces when he is sentenced Dec. 10. Instead, there sentences were much shorter on federal dogfighting conspiracy charges.

Vick's co-defendants were sentenced Friday to 18 months and 21 months in prison respectively. Peace, Phillips and Tony Taylor of Hampton pleaded guilty last summer and agreed to testify against Vick, prompting the suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback to enter his own plea agreement a few days later. Taylor will be sentenced Dec. 14.

Gimme More: A Hooker In Chile Has A Novel Idea To Raise Money For Children... On Her Back!

Santa's Helper Has Got It Going On!

In the spirit of the holiday season, a Chilean prostitute has auctioned off a set number of hours of sex to help raise money for a disabled childrens charity. "I've already auctioned off the 27 hours of love..."

Maria Carolina became an instant celebrity in the Roman Catholic country, making news headlines and giving interviews since she made her unusual donation to the televised charity event, which runs for 27 hours beginning from Nov 30 night.

Carolina, who decided to offer her services as part of the country's annual fund raising campaign, revealed that she has raised about 4,000 dollars. "One of my clients already paid. It seemed like a good deed to him," Carolina was quoted as saying.

The auction was part of a two day Telethon, which raises funds for the poor and disabled kids. Even though prostitution is legal in Chile, the campaign organizer Mario Kreutzberger has been dubious of her fundraising services, but accepted the money never the less.

"Everyone can do what they want, but if someone tells me that they'll do something immoral ... I'm not going to encourage it," Kreutzberger said. However, Carolina, who promotes her services on the Internet, defended her money-raising idea. "There are people who are going to be donating money that's a lot more questionable than mine. The only thing I did was publicise it," she said.

RODNEY KING SHOT: APPARENTLY WE ALL JUST CAN'T GET ALONG!

Rodney King, whose 1991 beating by Los Angeles police led to deadly rioting the next year, was shot on a street corner apparently while the brotha was drunk. The 42-year-old brotha actually had the nerve to bicycle home before calling police to come to his aid. He BICYLCLED HOME FAMILY! Wait, let me stop. I actually forgot for a minute what this brother went through. Take a look:

The one-time $3.8 millionaire was shot "possibly two or three times from a distance," and was hit in the face, arms, back and torso from a birdshot. He traveled 1 1/2 miles back to his home in neighboring Rialto and called local police shortly after 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, Rialto police Sgt. Craig Crispin told The Associated Press.

King and others at the home appearing inebriated chose not to cooperate with officers by providing information, according to police who say that Kings wounds are not believed to be life-threatening. King was taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton. His condition at this time remains unknown. No arrests were made and other details of the shooting were sketchy.

There was "speculation" that the shooting from a shotgu may have involved some kind of domestic dispute but "we're not sure about that yet," Paterson said.

King was videotaped being beaten by White Los Angeles police officers after the Black man was stopped for speeding in 1991. He was only 26-year-old at the time. Four officers were acquitted of most criminal charges in 1992, triggering rioting in Los Angeles and neighboring cities that left 55 people dead and caused $1 billion in property damage.

"CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG?"

King sued the city over the beating and obtained the multi-miillion settlement. However, he continued to have run-ins with the law. In 2004, he was ordered to spend 120 days in jail and ordered into treatment after pleading guilty to driving under the influence of the drug PCP after he lost control of his SUV in 2003 and slammed into a power pole in Rialto, about 55 miles east of Los Angeles in San Bernardino County.

This story is gut-wrenching. Why is this man still seemingly in such misery. Like so many African American men, will he ever find peace and purpose in his life?

BREAKING NEWS: LATASHA NORMAN'S BODY FOUND: EX-BOYFRIEND OF JACKSON STATE STUDENT CHARGED WITH HER MURDER!

Stanley Cole, the African American former boyfriend of missing JSU student Latasha Norman is now in Jackson Police custody after leading authorities to her decomposing body in the woods off a quiet street in Jackson, Mississippi.

The discovery of Latasha Norman's body was a tragic ending for an accounting major who worked on the school newspaper and ended up the focus of a story that grabbed national attention.

Norman's ex-boyfriend, Stanley Dwayne Cole of Greenville, was charged with murder after being interviewed by detectives. Investigators were able to locate the body based on information developed in the course of that interview.
Friends described the 20-year-old Norman as a quiet and serious student. She was last seen alive after leaving an afternoon class Nov. 13.

Her body was found Thursday off Brown Street in north Jackson near some old tires and a faded blue tarpaulin, callously discarded among empty beer bottles and other road side trash. Brown Street is a sparsely populated road about a mile west of Intestate 55 near Tougaloo College, a historically black private school in this capital city. It was not clear how long the body had been there.

Norman, who is also from Greenville in the Mississippi Delta, had been the target of attacks in the weeks before her disappearance, authorities said. Cole had been charged with simple assault for allegedly hitting Norman. And someone had slashed Norman's car's tires and removed the vehicle's license plate. Authorities identified Norman's body "based on evidence recovered from the crime scene and from forensic evidence," Scott said.

Cole, 23, was arrested earlier this month for assaulting Latasha. After the court appearance he was turned over to Jackson Police. This tragic story is disturbing on so many levels and words can't express how much we feel for Norman's family and loved ones. Developing...

African Americans Ain't Crazy, We Just Have More Folks Suffering From Dementia

By large numbers, elderly African Americans are dealing with the silent epidemic known as Alzheimer’s. This isn't the first time we've heard this, with USA Today writing back in 2005 about how Blacks are more susceptible to the brain-wasting condition than any other group in America.

Despite this, the first in-depth study to interview African Americans caregivers on how they seek help in caring for people with dementia was just completed by Travonia Brown-Hughes at the University of Kentucky.
She interviewed 17 caregivers who had received confirmed diagnoses of Alzheimer’s for a family member. Although this seems like a small sample, in qualitative studies the researchers stop when they find people telling the similar stories over and over.

Over half of the caregivers thought the elder’s symptoms were the result of a stressful event, emerged as one theme. Typical was one man who told Brown-Hughes, his grandfather had died, and four years later they noticed their grandmother’s symptoms but thought: “Oh, it’s still the stress. Cause she was having to deal with probate court and all that. Had the cousins wanting their share. We thought the stress would go away…her memory would start to come back. And it got worse.” This response is usual for this group: the older person’s not recovered from the loss of a friend, or they moved house. Their symptoms are seen as part of a transient state, or as the product of natural aging. The man with the ill grandmother said he knew, “something’s not right but I really didn’t associate it with Alzheimer’s.”

Black Singer Brandy: Gets Out of Jail Free on Manslaughter???

Last year, December 30th, a year ago, singer Brandy killed a woman, Awatef Aboudihaj, in a car crash. Yet with the Holiday Season now upon us, the only one who is seemingly thinking about this event or feeling any pain is Awatef's husband and the two boys she left behind.

We have heard nothing from the L.A. City Attorney's Office to file criminal charges against R&B singer Brandy. Happy Diwali, Great Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, Righteous Kwanzaa, Happy New Years. Life goes on. It's just that simple. Or is it? Check out this clip:

Isn't there a statue of limitations. If after a year no charges are filed, doesn't this just go away over the holidays? It's a get out of jail card right? Hey you "legal eagles" out there write me back and set me straight, if I'm wrong.

Bill Sayed, lawyer for the victim's husband, Marouane Hdidou, questioned the delay, saying, "There is a death and obviously reckless driving involved, which is enough evidence for an involuntary manslaughter charge. As to why the City Attorney has taken this long? I think we would all like to know."

Over the past year, Brandy has pursued her usual activities; shopping, partying and living a normal life. Sayed says, "Brandy continues to live life with really no negative results ... doing what Brandy is doing ... as if though nothing has occurred here." He also describes how life has become a roller coaster for his client. "Thanksgiving just passed and he and the boys were all alone -- he has no family here."

On December 30, 2006, around 10:30AM, Brandy was driving her brand new Range Rover northbound on the 405 Freeway at about 65 mph -- and didn't notice when traffic in front of her slowed down. She then hit Awatef Aboudijah's car, which veered to the left and was hit by another vehicle before crashing into the center divider. Awatef died at the hospital eight hours later, from massive internal bleeding.

Online Black Entertainment News With The Latest On Barry Bonds, Jordin Sparks and Samuel L Jackson... Oh Yeah, We Forgot About O.J.!

Those of you who luvvv Samuel Jackson will be in store for a few movies coming down the pipeline, including one with our personal favorite, Bernie Mac.

But don't look for either of them to be in the upcoming and sure to be controversial HBO Barry Bonds pic, nor grooving to new music from Jordin Sparks. In fact, is ANYONE grooving to the latest Idol winner's debut???

Before we answer that, looks like "Man That Rocks the Cradle" will be a star vehicle for Samuel L. Jackson. Celluloid is based on a story revolving around an overworked husband and father of four who decides the solution to all his problems is a live-in nanny. Under his JacksonNew Line production company, Jackson will play the nanny.

Speaking of Samuel L. Jackson, he and Bernie Mac are set for 'Soul Men', a road trip comedy to be directed by Malcom Lee. The pair will play bickering backup soul singers who haven't spoken in 20 years but reluctantly travel cross country together for a tribute concert to honor their famous former band leader. Jackson and Mac will do their own musical and dancing performances.

Lee, who directed "The Best Man," "Undercover Brother" and "Roll Bounce," most recently completed "Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins," a comedy Lee also wrote; Martin Lawrence and Cedric the Entertainer star. Universal will release the pic in February.

Not to be outdone, HBO Films is going to bat about a pic focusing on San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds. Bonds ended a season in which he broke baseball's all-time home run record only to be indicted for perjury and obstruction of justice charges for allegedly lying about steroid use. Story is based on the book "Game of Shadows: Barry Bonds, BALCO and the Steroids Scandal That Rocked Professional Sports." Bonds, facing arraignment in December, is characterized in "Game of Shadows" as a gifted player who made a deal with the devil type bargain to increase his power after watching bulked-up sluggers Mark McGwire
and Sammy Sosa race to break Maris' single-season record of 61 homers in 1998.

American Idol's Jordin Sparks certainly won't be breaking any records. In fact, folks are troubled over sales generated by Sparks' self-titled debut. Winner of the sixth and most recent season of "American Idol," and who many thought was the most marketable of the show's winners — has an album which has turned out the lowest first-week numbers of a debut issued by any of the show's previous winners.

Jordin Sparks enters next week's chart at #10 (the sole new release to crack the top 10) with little more than 119,100 sold. And for those of you still sold on OJ Simpson's innocence and want every insignificant detail about Orenthal, here you go.
That said, are we really trying to punish him on this silly case for killing Nicole and Ron? What say you???

Day 23 of The Writer's Strike: What's A Non-Union Black Writer To Do???

From Civil Rights To Silver Rights, We Shall Overcome ... Someday?

This Thanksgiving I went back home to Chicago. Amidst the turkey, dressing, mac & cheese, sweet potato pies, collard greens and other calorie laden holiday delectables, I was frequently asked, "Are you on strike?"

That question puts me in an odd position. On one hand, I totally support my fellow writer's and their cause to such a degree as going out marching myself and possibly leading them in a good old Negro spiritual inspired civil rights marchin' song:

Ain't gonna let no 'ducers turn me 'round, turn me 'round, turn me 'round Ain't gonna let no studio turn me 'round, Keep on a marchin', keep on a writin' , wit all my residuals in hand...On the other hand, "being on strike" means that you are refusing to work until certain employment conditions are met. But what if you weren't working before the strike was called? The WGA brass would answer that being on strike also means that you refuse any work offered while the strike is in progress. Okay, that's sort of a positive approach, but with 48% of the Guild's membership not working at any given time, how realistic is it that writer's will be given "offers"--especially now? I'll tell you... Read more about Am I On Strike?

Kanye's No Evil Knievel, But After His Mom's Death He's Getting Love From Some Unlikely Places

After accusing Kanye West of using his image "promote his filth to the world," Evel Knievel has "amicably" settled his lawsuit with the rapper, the daredevil announced earlier this week.

TMZ.com is reporting Knievel sued West and his record company last year, after Kanye appeared in a music video for his song "Touch the Sky" dressed as "Evel Kanyevel" and jumped over a canyon on a motorcycle.

West and his lawyers argued it was satire; Knievel called it "vulgar and offensive.""I thought he was a wonderful guy and quite a gentleman," Knievel said after a face-to-face meeting with Kanye. "I know he's had some tough times the past few weeks, and I hope things work out."Not such an evil guy after all.

RICKY WILLAMS RETURNS TO THE NFL ... BUT THEN LEAVES AGAIN!

Ricky Williams' Latest Comeback: A Whopping One Game

The Miami Dolphins running back will miss the rest of the season with a torn chest muscle, according to his agent, Leigh Steinberg. Williams was hurt Monday at Pittsburgh, when he played in his first game in nearly two years. He returned following a 1 1/2-year suspension for his latest violation of the NFL drug policy.

Steinberg said the arm will be in a sling from four to six weeks and the rehab will take five months.

But Steinberg said Williams expects to be ready for next season. "It's sad given how hopeful Ricky had been about his return to football and given the amount of effort Ricky had put into his rehabilitation. But he's optimistic and hopeful for the future."

With a winless record, the Dolphins were desperate for help and eager to showcase Williams in hopes of increasing his trade value. Coach Cam Cameron decided to play Williams only a week after he joined practice.

"My No. 1 concern coming into the game, when you hurry a guy back, obviously he could get hurt," Cameron said after the game.

The team was off Tuesday, and a spokesman for the Dolphins said they had no comment on Williams' status. Miami is 0-11 and plays the New York Jets on Sunday.

Williams was injured in the second quarter Monday on a play when he fumbled. After being tackled, he was accidentally stepped on while chest-down on the ground.

Williams left the game, returned briefly and departed for good after one more carry. He finished with 15 yards in six carries, and the Dolphins lost 3-0 on a last-minute field goal.

Miami running back Jesse Chatman sat out the second half with a neck injury, and his availability for the Jets game is in doubt. The Dolphins' other running backs are Patrick Cobbs and rookie Lorenzo Booker.

The Dolphins lost starter Ronnie Brown for the season to a knee injury last month.

Williams, the 2002 NFL rushing champion, has played in only 13 games since retiring in the summer of 2004. He has tested positive for marijuana at least four times since the Dolphins acquired him in 2002, and their franchise-record playoff drought began that same year.

Williams hasn't missed an NFL game because of an injury since 2000 when he was with the New Orleans Saints.

Indy Racer Helio Takes Flag on Dancing With The Stars, As Cheetah Girl, Sabrina Bryan Proves She's The Real Road Runner

Shortly after performing a spot-on encore of their best dance of the season, the quickstep, Helio Castroneves and Julianne Hough won the glittering mirror ball trophy. But during the whole time I watched the show, I couldn't help but wonder whether absent baby daddy Eddie Murphy and his new woman Tracie Edmonds were checking out our favorite Spice Girl.

Mel B was arguably the better technical dancer between thed two, I'll give you that. But Helio, however, easily earned the title of most improved, not to mention most beloved by the cheering crowd. Unlike others in the competition, he didn't come from a dance, stage or entertainment background. Natural talent, buckets of charisma and a willingness to learn carried the two-time Indy 500 champ to his first ever dancing title. For partner Julianne, the night was a repeat, as she claimed the victory last season with another athlete, Olympic speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno.

But the gal who really should be complaining is that Cheetah Girl Sabrina Bryan. She along with all the former contestants was asked back to dance one last time. And for the record, she danced her a** off. By the end of the night it was obvious that not only was it a travesty that she and her partner Mark Ballas were not part of the finals, but didn't just win the whole competition out right.

In addition to their very excellent dancing, we then later find out that Mark really Man'd-Up for this last performance tonight, as at the conclusion of their performance, he was immediately rushed to the hospital in an ambulance with a torn shoulder tendon. He got the injury from rehearsal, the night before, and went out tonight anyway. Yes, the show must go on!

Former NFL Baller Curtis Martin Has Flava: From A New York Sista Who Is Convinced This "Cutie Pie" Is Her Future Husband

The East Coast Transplant In My Office Is Going
On And On About Curtis Martin

Just so we're clear, this post is for you "L", after detailing your encounter with Martin two years ago at the Espy Awards. Like I told the Brooklyn beauty, she better get ready for her closeup because this brotha's dream of being an NFL owner is closer to becoming a reality.

The league's fourth-leading career rusher and connoisseur of men's fashion announced plans to run from the backfield to the front office when he retired in July. Obviously a man of his word, Curtis has made progress in his bid to run a team. "It is very possible that I'll be in ownership by next year," the 34-year-old said Wednesday. "I expect to be in ownership by next year."

It's uncertain which team he's in talks with, but it's been speculated it is not the New York Jets, with whom he spent nine of his 12 NFL seasons.

"Other than that it's going good, I won't say anything else," Martin said. "When it does happen and when everything plays out, I'll be very detailed and we can probably go through the entire process. But to protect those who are involved and the integrity of the whole deal, I'm not going to say too much about it."

Sounds like this guy really has his act together. "I want to become a new image of what a professional athlete is," Martin said. "I think presently in sports, you have the whole bravado, bling-bling, and it seems that that's the image that most of us look up to, and I don't know who set that image. I want to be a different image. I want to be an image that's positive for you long-term. ... That's one of my true motivations, is to be a different goal to reach versus just having a million homes and a million cars and all the jewelry in the world."

Martin was considered one of the classiest and toughest athletes to play in New York before he was forced to retire because of a bone-on-bone right knee injury suffered during the 2005 season. "I still feel my knee," he said. "If I'm not doing anything on it, I feel fine and I feel like I can get out there and play on the field, but there's certain things that I do that lets me know that that's just a fantasy. I've been boxing a lot, so there's a lot of twisting and I can feel it during my training."

Martin spent last season on injured reserve and made the decision to retire official the day before training camp opened, 19 months after his last game. "The ownership thing has given me the feeling that I've never even left football," Martin said. "You know how a caterpillar turns into a butterfly? I feel like I'm still that same animal, but I'm just making the transition into a different position."

During his 11 active seasons, he amassed 14,101 yards rushing, ranking behind only Emmitt Smith (18,355), Walter Payton (16,726) and Barry Sanders (15,269). His 3,518 carries are third on the NFL's career list, and his 90 touchdowns rushing rank tied for 12th with Eric Dickerson. Martin, a five-time Pro Bowl selection, was also a versatile offensive weapon, catching 484 passes for 3,329 yards and 10 touchdowns. "I feel as though all my heart, blood, sweat and tears were left out there on that field, so it's hard for me to regret anything, especially as it concerns football," he said.

Martin's presence is still felt around the Jets' training facility. Coach Eric Mangini has left Martin's locker untouched, complete with his name plate, pads and uniform hanging as if he's going to come in and suit up again.

"Usually, when you're not here, your name is gone the next hour and your locker's cleared out by the next day," Martin said. "I haven't been around too much, but I still see my Sea Breeze and my lotion and everything in my locker. I appreciate little things like that."

Martin recently had over 50 guests in the stands to watch him be honoured at midfield, including his mother, Rochella; Bill Parcells, his coach with the Jets and New England Patriots; and Mark Wittgarner, his high school coach in Pittsburgh. "I just think that this is the year people thought we would have last year, and last year was supposed to be this year," Martin said. "Sometimes things get turned around like that. I think the worst thing you can do is abort your game plan. I think Eric is a wonderful coach, a great coach, the coach that was needed for this team at this time."

Thanks for the cigar Usher! So clearly congrats are in order now that New York’s Power 105.1 has confirmed that Tameka Foster gave birth last night. Seems like all the online naysayers have been quieted down since Tameka and Usher jumped the broom back in August. The most important thing to us isn't whether or not lady T is Raymond's beard. It's all about the brother showing his woman respect by actually, dare I say it... marrying her.

African American Women Online Have Been Buzzing About The NBC Special About Them: So Far So Good???

Did NBC Play Sistahs?

Just as I settled in with my notepad and pen and blinked twice, tonight's segment by NBC Nightly News on African American women was over. Just like that. What the ....?

Now, before I am accused of complaining, I actually thought the segment that aired was good. However, two words do come to mind:

Equal Time.

Any person - whether or not he or she is a Black - knows that Black women took one hell of an image beating this year. Actually, we've taken an image beating for years. I just think that this year there's been a new level of awareness.

Then Bill Cosby and Dr. Alvin Pouissant are on Meet the Press talking about the plight of Black America for a whole hour.

My point is while I am very proud of the idea to look at the issues pertaining to African American women by NBC and can most certainly appreciate the hard work in the hours of editing it must have taken to get that 3-5 minutes for tonight's segment; in light of the rough year for Black women image-wise, we need more time for our story to be told in a broader more historical context.

More time to provide context to the issues that impact African American women most is needed. While tonight's segment sought to highlight the positive aspects of Black women and while noting the apparent achievement gap and its economic impact on the Black community at large, because the segment was so short, I almost felt like in some ways - well - guilty. I felt like we were portrayed as leaving Black men behind and they were being left to fend for themselves.

Black Folks Love Barack Obama: The Democratic Party, Not So Much

Should African Americans Start Voting Republican?

Barack, you know you're doing your thing when even Newt Gingrich is predicting an Iowa win for you in a few weeks. Nevermind the latest poll showing that Hillary is doing better among African Americans, South Carolina will speak to that little discrepancy in due time. The bigger issue is that the Democratic candidates overall -- with the exception of John Edwards, who opened his campaign in New Orleans' Ninth Ward and has made addressing poverty central to his campaign -- have virtually ignored the plight of African Americans in this country. The catastrophic crisis that engulfs the African-American community goes without mention. No urban agenda is given priority. When thousands of African Americans marched in protest in Jena, La., not one candidate showed up.

Sean Taylor Death: This Was A Hit And The Real Story Needs To Be Told

Was Taylor Another Athlete Who Was
A Victim Of Black On Black Crime?

Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor has died a day after he was shot and wounded in his Miami home. Knowing how rabid and die-hard Redskins fans are, this has to be devastating for family in the DC area. The 24-year-old African American baller and father of a 1-year-old girl never regained consciousness after being taken to a hospital in what was clearly an orchestrated effort to take the brotha out.

"Sean was awakened with his girlfriend and 18-month old baby," said his former attorney Richard Sharpstein. There were "noises, thumps in the living room." Taylor "got up and locked the bedroom door. Before he could do anything, the door was kicked in and two shots were fired -- one hit him in the leg, one went into the wall." Taylor "was on the floor, nonresponsive, bleeding out and chest heaving, eyes rolled back and he was pretty much gone from that point on," Sharpstein said.

Sharpstein told CNN that the 24-year-old football player was shot Monday during a home invasion and died later at a hospital. "The blood loss was too much. He didn't make it," Sharpstein told CNN. "He did supposedly squeeze a nurse's hand. I wasn't there," said Sharpstein. "But obviously that was either some kind of response or muscle reaction and not
He never regained consciousness after the shooting, Sharpstein said. "It's a senseless, tragic death that was so unnecessary, another example of the incessant violence in -- not only our community -- but the country now." Watch Sharpstein describe Taylor's death »

At 1:45 a.m. Monday, a woman identified as Taylor's girlfriend called 911 and said someone had been shot. Taylor was airlifted to Miami's Jackson Memorial Hospital. Sharpstein said the NFL safety's girlfriend -- who said she was hiding under bedcovers during the attack -- has described the shooting to police. Taylor's girlfriend "tried to call 911 and it's unclear whether the phone lines were cut or the phone was broken or off or unplugged or turned off," said Sharpstein. "She had to use her cell."

"Whether this was a purposeful action in taking Sean's life or in shooting him or whether it was a burglary gone awry, the police are still investigating those circumstances," Sharpstein said. Taylor's home also was reported broken into eight days earlier on November 18, according to Miami-Dade police.

Someone forced open a window and left a kitchen knife on a bed, according to the police report. Several drawers and a bedroom safe had been searched during the break-in, the report said. No one knows whether the first invasion is related to Monday's attack, Sharpstein said. According to the police report, Taylor's mother reported the break-in, saying it occurred while the house was empty between Saturday evening and Sunday evening. Police found a window pried open, but could not confirm if anything was missing.

Taylor was arrested in 2005 after he was accused of waiving a gun at people he believed were stealing his all-terrain vehicles, according to Sharpstein. "He got into fisticuffs, but no gun," Sharpstein said. After originally being charged with aggravated assault, Taylor pleaded to a misdemeanor battery in the case, Sharpstein said. A civil suit stemming from the case remains open. "There's still a lot of open ends to that," he said.

Taylor spent four years with the Redskins, but had been out with a sprained right knee.
Redskins coach Joe Gibbs called the incident a "tragedy" and said neither he nor the team had "experienced anything like this."

Taylor was a first-round pick in the 2004 draft. He played at the University of Miami, where he was an All-American in 2003, and was also a high school standout in the city, according to The Associated Press. His father, Pedro Taylor, is the police chief of Florida City, Florida, AP reports. Taylor was described as personable and smart and an emerging locker room leader, since the birth of his daughter Jackie, according to AP.

"From the first day I met him, from then to now, it's just like night and day," Redskins receiver James Thrash told AP. "He's really got his head on his shoulders and has been doing really well as far as just being a man. It's been awesome to see that growth." [Source]

Allen Watty Sings New Black Anthem, "Sometimes I Wish I Was White"

What's Up With These Lyrics:

“Sometimes I feel, I wish I was white, so I could feel, just how it feels to be treated right. I’m not ashamed of me. Just one time, I want to see, how it feels to be treated equally."

Independent singer Allen Watty has just taken controversy to another level. Watty is best known as the singer of the "Hurricane Song", which won rave national reviews from ABC News, MSNBC.com, and CNN.

Now, he's back with another tune called "Sometimes I Wish I Was White". In the song, Watty reveals that he's not at all ashamed of being Black - but that he has learned that you have to be white to be treated 100% equally.

Producer and songwriter Irvin Lee, comments, "First off, we have no self-hatred issues. The purpose of this song is not to say that Blacks should want to be white. Rather, the intent is to make people think and converse about the continuous mistreatment of Blacks in this country."

After hearing the song, many will indeed conclude that the lyrics in the song suggests that Watty has self-hatred issues. For others, he will seem hopeless and desperate; and for still others he will seem like a man who cannot see that the problem is not his blackness, but his oppressors.

Whatever direction the discussion goes, it will all boil back to one thing; Who are we? And how have we come to this place in time and space? Why are we still being forced to have these discussions surrounding race? Ultimately, what will the outcome be and how will it all be resolved, if at all?

Singer Allen Watty and producer Irvin Lee are doing what they do best - pricking the sensibilities of the American people. And with this tune, they are certain to prick the sensibilities of the Black community especially.

Other songs by Watty include the N-Word song, and Run Joe Run (The Racial Profiling Song).

Oprah Under Fire Again by Ex-Staffer

Oprah Winfrey might've thought she was done with a former employee who threatened to expose some secrets about "her style of management" -- after he was charged with extortion. Besides, she's too busy gearing up to campaign for Barack Obama to have to worry about some ex-staffer

Not quite. Page Six of the New York Post reports that the alleged extortionist, Keifer Bonvillain, was cleared of federal charges by an Illinois court, and now he's on the attack again, trying to get his supposed tell-all sold via the Internet.

Bonvillain allegedly tried to sell secret tapes of his time at Harpo Productions for $1.5 million, and was arrested. The ex-staffer has made allegations of discrimination at O's production company. Oprah didn't return the New York Post's calls for comment. Between this disgruntled employee, the molestation charges at her school in Africa and the tell-all book her father is threatening to publish, 2008 and the future seem to be a little rocky for Oprah.

Malibu Fires: The Wrap up, The Clean Up, The Pray Up

Fires finally subside in the canyon communities of Malibu California. Fifty Three homes with an average value of 3 million or more have been destroyed. Memories lost but human life is spared. Scene after scene we see the agony and tears of families coming come to cinders still smoldering and ironically the neighbors house next door that still stands untouched. There is no rhyme or reason why the fires chose to selectively hopscotch across the area.

But fire authorities say there is definitely a "human reason" for the cause of these fires. Although they are not sure whether it was by accident or arson, this new set of fires was definitely started by human hands.

Favorable weather and an aerial assault helped firefighters make progress against a blaze that destroyed dozens of homes along winding canyon roads, the second major fire here in as many months.

A cool breeze blowing in from the Pacific Ocean kept temperatures low and moisture levels high Sunday, while 30 aircraft repeatedly dropped fire retardant and water that snuffed out most of the flames.

The fire was 70 percent contained after burning more than 4,720 acres. Fire officials said they hope to have the blaze under control by Monday. Residents made their way back Sunday to see if their homes were among the 53 that were burned to the ground. Several homes along Corral Canyon Road, which bore the brunt of the blaze, were reduced to blackened wrecks, while many others were virtually unscathed.

Thirty-four other homes were damaged and as many as 14,000 people were evacuated from the blaze, which was whipped up by hot, dry Santa Ana winds. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger surveyed the damage and hugged Jennifer Grossman who returned from a trip to find her home destroyed."This is very, very sad," Schwarzenegger said to Grossman. "We're going to help you."

Type rest of the post here Malibu was still recovering from last month's 4,565-acre Canyon Fire that destroyed six homes, two businesses and a church when the winds began whipping up again. "You think it's over for the year, and then, it's here we go again," Montebello City Fire Capt. Fernando Peliaz said as his crew soaked down the still-smoldering remains of a home. Hundreds of firefighters and equipment from throughout the state had been positioned in Southern California for most of the week because of the predicted Santa Ana winds. Investigators said the fire, which broke out along a dirt road off a paved highway, was caused by humans, but they had not determined if it was started intentionally, county fire Inspector Rick Dominguez said.

Sheriff's deputies with bloodhounds were seen headed into the area that residents said is a popular spot for outdoor partying by young people. Several locals were convinced the fire was started by late-night revelers who may have lit a campfire.
"I've been up there and seen howling groups of teenagers drinking," Corral Canyon Road resident Ricardo Means, 57, said of the rugged spot near the far end of the winding road where blackened beer bottles could be seen littering the ground.

Malibu, with homes tucked into deep and narrow canyons along 27 miles of coast on the southern foot of the Santa Monica Mountains, is prone to Santa Ana-driven wildfires. Among them was a 1993 blaze that destroyed 388 structures, including 268 homes, and killed three people. Saturday's fire was west of the areas of Malibu that burned in October. Despite the constant threat of wildfires and other natural hazards, residents seem to love living here. A sense of community, quietness compared to Los Angeles and proximity to nature are all cited by locals. "It's just tranquility after madness of the city," said stem-cell researcher Denis Rodgerson, whose house survived. "It's a nice place."

Black Canadian Measha Brueggergosman Is One Tony Soprano

(Photo: Henry Leutwyler)

With her hair teased into an eight-inch corona, her eyes hooded in gold shadow, cheeks mauved and lips shellacked, the Canadian soprano Measha Brueggergosman looks as if she were expecting at any moment to be summoned to sing Aïda at the Met. So far, though, the 30-year-old has built a career on intimate recitals that take advantage of her ability to beguile audiences at close quarters. In other words, the sistah can sang and work you up close like nobody's business!

On November 28, she’ll appear with pianist Roger Vignoles at Carnegie Hall’s underground Zankel Hall, lavishing her lush chinchilla tone on music that lies somewhere between soufflé-light art song and highbrow cabaret.

You might think that’s her natural niche, until you hear her caressing a slinky French mélodie or a German Lied, sounding equally at home.

She’s ready for more opera now, but she’s also cautious about getting sucked into an unmusical shock production like the whips-and-leather La Traviata that the Canadian Opera Company recently staged. “There’s nothing bigger, better, louder, cooler than the operatic experience,” she says. “But if I commit to an opera because I love the role, then I get there and all of a sudden I’m being dry-humped from behind by a sheep, that’s not fair. I don’t want to be difficult, but it’s important to me as a Christian to be involved in productions that my parents can come see.”

Born Measha Gosman, she married a Swiss man, Markus Brügger, in the process acquiring a full-time personal manager and a couple more syllables in her surname. She’s reinvented herself in other ways: Over the past couple of years, she lost enough weight with the help of Bikram yoga to make her almost unrecognizable. She became a presence on Canadian radio and television—a local version of Project Runway recently featured a competition to design a recital gown for her—and she has plunged happily into a recitalist’s peripatetic career: one town, one night, then back on the road.

Her new CD begins with a burst of brass and a nasal mewl: Surprise! That’s the title of a snappy William Bolcom song and also, aptly, of an album full of startling energy and charm. At a recent industry showcase, Brueggergosman wielded a rich and polychrome yet agile voice, and displayed diction that she justifiably describes as “fierce,” each vowel chiseled to a sharp, smooth edge. She didn’t just sing a song—she sold it, sashaying around the minuscule stage like a diva in the rough, alternating between aw-shucks-it’s-just-li’l-old-me giggles and a grand-scale charisma that could someday soon galvanize a very big room. Maybe even the Met. [NY Mag]

BUT DAMN #242 REAL ESTATE: CAN'T SELL MY HOME, MY LISTING AGENT PUT THE PRICE TOO HIGH

My Real estate agent appreciates the craftsmanship that I have put into my house. She then gave me a great price to list my house. After 90 days we have no sale.

But Damn ...

Now she says I have to reduce my price.

You my friend are the victim of a real estate agent who just wanted to get her foot in the door.

You probably interviewed at least three agents like you were suppose to, right? And ultimately you went with the agent who gave you the largest listing price. She probably spent a couple of hours pumping you up, telling you how much she admired the work you had put into your home. This ultimately led her to "guaranteeing" your house would sell for a really good price. You liked hearing that and the fact she was cute was a bonus right?

When in fact, that price was way over inflated and she did so, so you would choose her as your real estate agent. She was working you; just trying to get your listing and guess what? It worked.

Now after 90 days your house hasn't sold and before their contract with you runs out they want to drop the price of your home to make it "more competitive". But you the home owner are now depressed because you counted on making a certain amount of money off the sale of your home. In some cases you have already physically spent that money. In all cases mentally spent it.

So, what to do? Grin, bear it, and make your real estate agent work her a** off for this trickery. And, if after what you feel is a "competitive" reducing of your house it still doesn't sell, you need to get a new agent. Or sell it yourself with a discount agent. (But that's another article)

Your selection of a real estate agent , should not only be a personality mesh. Each of your potential agents should explain to you a "marketing plan" of selling your house, utilizing research and state of the art video and on-line technology. And a good agent will tell you things you want to hear but also things you don't want to hear.

You want honesty and to know the agent is being both optimistic but also real. I'm not saying let him suggest a price you feel is far too low and is giving the house away. Just realistic, given the current market and stringent loan process.
