UCLA GETS SOME ADDED COLOR


YEAH! MORE BLACK STUDENTS FOR 07-08

LOS ANGELES,(CNS) - Adopting a more "holistic" approach to reviewing applications, UCLA accepted 63% more Black freshmen this year compared to last fall.

Numbers indicating 392 freshmen is an improvement over last year, when an embarrassing 249 Black freshmen were admitted and just 96 enrolled. According to the school, that marked the lowest level of Black enrollment at UCLA since 1973.

Of the 11,387 prospective freshmen admitted, 17% are Black, Latino, or Native American. African American students make up 3.4% compared to 2.1% last year.

Admitted students had overall grade-point averages of 4.3, with Asians comprising 43% - almost three times the number of all other minorities. Whites made up 33%.

UCLA admitted 11,837 prospective freshmen out of 50,729 - the most applicants of any university in the country. THE REASON:
