Condoleezza Rice' Poisons Diplomacy With Polish Missile Base

I don't see how in one minute Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice can say, as an impartial, she is meeting with Russia and Georgia leaders in the name of peace and stability. And a week later she is signing a pact to build a U.S. missile defense base in Poland, an agreement that prompted an infuriated Russia to warn of a possible attack against the former Soviet satellite.

Rice has dismissed comments from Russian officials who say Poland's decision to accept a U.S. missile defense base "exposes the country to attack." In fact in true Bush/Chaney Administration mantra Rice said, Wednesday that the "the Cold War is over." She added that the U.S. has a "firm treaty to guarantee" to defend Poland's territory as if it were its own and said making such threats is "probably not wise."
So much for peace and stability. Who knows how many agreements like this will hamper the new president next year.
