JAY-Z KEEPS BEYONCE, LEAVES DEF JAM RECORDS
It wasn't a choice of her or his job. We just shameless like to include a picture of Beyonce in a story whenever we can. In fact there are still rumours of a secret wedding between the two, but for now lets deal with him changing his work situation.
In a move thought to be on-and-off for months, Jay-Z gave up being president of Def Jam Records -- to get back to being a rapper, and ... to open a hotel?
Jay-Z announced on Christmas Eve that he'll be vacating his big corner office at Def Jam because it's "time for me to take on new challenges," according to a statement. He took over the top spot three years ago, and famously "retired" from hip-hop, though he came back twice to release new albums.
Jay's boss, L.A. Reid, says he's sorry Jay will be leaving: "He will nonetheless be missed in this executive capacity."
Universal Music Group said Monday that rap artist and hip-hop mogul Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter is stepping down as president of its Def Jam Records unit, effective by the end of the year. Carter, 38, has been president of the rap label since 2005, and has signed acts including R&B singers Rihanna and Ne-Yo.
