REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE TOMMY THOMPSON CUTS BAIT: ONE OLD WHITE GUY DOWN, NINE TO GO!

White House Hopeful Returns To Private Sector, Maybe He'll Take Up Fishin'

Unable to gain ANY traction, former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson is outta there, announcing today that he is abandoning his 2008 presidential bid.

Is he given us the finger???

"I want to thank the people of Iowa who were welcoming and supportive as well as my volunteers and contributors from around the country," Thompson released in a statement.

Dems Fear Hillary Backlash If NY Senator Gets Nomination

Thompson, former Secretary of Health and Human Services under President Bush, had hoped to place second in the Ames Republican straw poll Saturday. Instead, his candidacy (never taken even remotely serious) finished an anemic sixth.

That's with Rudy Giuliani and John McCain not even bothering to go after it. And former Tennessee senator and likely contender Fred Thompson (no relation) is still keeping us in suspense over whether he's joining his fellow brethren at this ho'down! Once the former Law & Order actor jumps in, that would bring the total back to 10 (not counting former House Speaker Newt Gingrich).

In his statement, Thompson said he had "no regrets about running... I respect the decision of the voters. I am leaving the campaign trail today, but I will not leave the challenges of improving health care and welfare in America," he said.

Typical political blah, blah, blah. He'll write a book, make a gazillion dollars in the private sector, and then play Monday morning quarterback when Republicans get there butts kicked next year.

And don't trip, the GOP is MY party!
