'Punta Cartel' to Headline 6th Annual Honduran Festival

Every year, about 2,000 Hondurans, and those who simply appreciate Honduran culture, come together in Southern California's Huntington Park to enjoy delicious, traditional, Honduran food while the children play games and the family enjoys music from the region.

The event takes place at well-known local haunt, Honduras Kitchen, and this year, Punta Cartel will headline the festival on Sunday, August 12, 2007 from 11 am - 8 pm.

The group, comprised of ten extraordinary musicians from Honduras and Belize, is guaranteed to get everyone dancing with their hip-shaking Central American music known as Punta. Los Profesionales and El Nene will join Punta Cartel onstage, with a surprise special host.

Brought to the U.S. by Central American immigrants, Punta is surfacing in urban centers with a high concentration of Latinos, not as a World Music genre, but as a new component in the latest developments of urban Latino music. The ten talented musicians that comprise Punta Cartel met through their manager Rafael Larios and his dream to bring this traditional form of Garifuna Central American music to the forefront of Latin music.

The event is open to the public and free. Honduras’ Kitchen is located at 2409 E. Slauson Ave., Huntington Park, CA 90255
