Actress Sanaa Lathan and the Soft & Beautiful company surprised the HerShe Group by awarding them with a $20,000 check. The HerShe Group, an LA based non-profit organization, assists girls in the foster care system who are nearing emancipation. The gift was presented by executives from Soft & Beautiful and Lathan, who named the HerShe Group as her favorite charity when she was voted "Ms Soft & Beautiful" earlier this year.
The surprise event took place during the HerShe Group's 2nd annual Cinderella Ball which took place at LA's Museum of Natural History this past Saturday. The debutante ball-- replete with flowing gowns, gloves, ladies-in-waiting, tuxedo wearing escorts and a well-choreographed waltz -- is sponsored by Los Angeles County, Supervisor Yvonne B. Burke and assisted by the Los Angeles Chapter of the Links, Inc.Since its inception, the HerShe Group has received praise for its significant work with foster care girls and garnered support from celebrities like Eve, Dr. Dre, Larissa "Bootz" Hodge, Eminem, Nia Long and Lathan.
"We appreciate the help that companies like Soft & Beautiful and celebs like Sanaa have done for us," says Kenadie Cobbin, CEO of the HerShe Group, "but given the dire need of the thousands of the underprepared girls who will be ejected from the foster care system each year, we'll need more help. A whole lot more."
