BREAKING NEWS: 5.4 Earthquake Today In Los Angeles!!!

The Down Side Of Living In La-La Land

So I'm on the phone from my home office and all of a sudden I feel this quick jolt that apparently stretched from California to Nevada.

I continue talking to my banker and then suddenly I yell to the customer rep, "I can't talk, we're shaking!"

Centered in the 80,000 plus community of Chino Hills, at least three 3.8 aftershocks have happened since this first "seismic event" occurred almost 30 minutes ago.

So during what seemed like 45 seconds of major shaking, all I could think was to tell my boys and wife "Let's go!" Of course noone's wearing shoes and my oldest wasn't even dressed. My 6-year-old was clearly shook-up, as he kept saying, "That was scary" while clinging to my wife.

She and I have been through this before. In fact, it was the 1994 Northridge earthquake measuring a 6.7 on the Richter Scale that made me realize that if I was going to die, she was the person I wanted to leave this life with.

The following week, we started looking at rings. We married in 1995!

Some 13 years later, he we are instructing our kids about earthquake safety, where we will meet if we get split-up, checking our emergency kits, and counting our blessings that it was ONLY a 5.4!
