HIGH SCHOOL HONOR STUDENT AND ATHLETE GENARLOW WILSON FREE AT LAST!

10 Year Prison Term Voided For Black Homecoming King Who Engaged In Consensual Teen Sex

An Atlanta judge just voided a 10-year sentence for a young African-American male accused of having consensual oral sex with a 15-year-old girl when he was 17.

Genarlow Wilson was instead given a 12-month misdemeanor sentence with credit for time already served. It is believed that he currently
remains in custody, pending further proceedings

Wilson’s original sentence, for aggravated child molestation, was widely criticized on the grounds it was grossly disproportionate to the crime.

With even jurors denouncing the case, Georgia state lawmakers subsequently passed a law to close the loophole that led to the 10-year sentence. The state is likely to appeal on the grounds that the new law cannot be applied retroactively.

While we give big props for Judge Michael Sauer putting an end to the Paris Hilton foolishness, this judicial officer is our hero. Several influential people, including former President Jimmy Carter, stepped forward to support Wilson. To them, we say bravo as well!

Never mind that this young Black man had to forgo graduation, college and his freedom over what was clearly bad judgement.

This is a victory for others who will not be subjected to such draconian laws in the future.

It took audacity and courage to not cave in and enter into a plea that would have had permanent consequences on this brother's life.

Genarlow Wilson has a lot to teach each of us about making mistakes, yet standing for what you believe is right!
