PACMAN JONES: PERPETUATING THE STEREOTYPE? (Part 1)

Commentary by Jayar Jackson

I’m trying, I’m trying really hard.

I have always been the guy that gives professional athletes the benefit of the doubt when they get into trouble or when someone accuses them of, as Nick Cannon’s show says, “Wildin’ Out.”

Adam “Pacman” Jones, an NFL player that plays for the Tennessee Titans, was in Las Vegas during the NBA’s All-Star weekend and decided to visit a strip club one evening.

While enjoying the show, Jones decided to get up on stage with the dancers and a large garbage bag full of money ($81,000 in singles) to “Make it Rain.”

Let me explain this one. As seen in rap videos, he threw all of this money in the air over the strippers and himself while dancing with them.

As the money hit the floor, one dancer had the crazy idea to actually pick up some money that the customer was throwing at her feet.

Apparently, the money was simply being thrown to show how much of a dumba** he was rather than to tip them, so Jones proceeded to grab the woman by her hair and slam her face onto the stage.

This sparked a huge altercation that prompted the bouncer to intervene and break up the fight that Jones continued to participate in by doing his best Mike Tyson impersonation and biting the bouncer’s leg.

Upon being kicked out, several witnesses heard Jones tell the bouncer that he was going to kill him. After some time passed, a man opened fire on the club, shooting three, including the bouncer and paralyzing the club’s manager.

Pacman retains his innocence and declared that the shooting was completely unrelated. He wants us to believe that every person in his entourage went back to their hotel rooms and said to themselves, “Damn, I think I’d better stop hanging around that fool Adam before he gets me into some trouble.”

This is the kind of behavior and mindset that have me so upset about this story.

Despite the fact that he has been arrested or questioned by police 8 times in his two short years in the NFL, or that he has been accused of spitting in the faces of two women, or that he has been arrested on charges of assault, felony vandalism, disorderly conduct and public intoxication, this fool doesn't get it.

Forget for a moment all of those indiscretions that you really shouldn’t forget. This 23-year brother is making a case for some of the most irrelevant people’s beliefs on the planet.

Every racist person that says Black men don’t know how to do anything except drugs, disrespect their women, shoot each other over nothing, leave illegitimate kids to be taken care of by six different mothers, and speak bad English is nodding their heads right now saying, “I TOLD YOU.”

Pacman is nodding his head right along with these ignorant, abhorrent people. Giving validation to these beliefs sickens me.
