LETTERMAN IN FUNK OVER ESCAPED INMATE WHO TRIED TO KIDNAP HIS SON

Accused Of Trying To Take The Late Night Host's Baby Boy, Officials Continue The Hunt

(AP) Inmates Kelly A. Frank, 45, and convicted burglar William J. Willcutt, 22, were assigned to a crew that moves irrigation pipe at the prison ranch, officials said.

As of Saturday, the area near the Montana State prison was still being combed for the two inmates, one of whom was accused of plotting to kidnap David Letterman's son.

Kelly Frank was arrested in March 2005 on allegations that he had devised a plan to kidnap Letterman's son, lied to investigators and overcharged Letterman for painting work at his ranch.

Prosecutors later dropped a charge of solicitation to kidnap, in exchange for guilty pleas on three other charges, including felony theft and misdemeanor obstruction. Frank was sentenced to 10 years in prison for overcharging the talk show host.

A supervisor first noticed Willcutt and a truck were missing Friday afternoon. The truck was later found off prison property near Deer Lodge, in western Montana. Soon, they realized that Frank was also missing.

With Dave's money, you know he's consulting with Tony Soprano-types to take this fool out once and for all.

Department of Corrections spokesman Bob Anez said the Highway Patrol were focusing their search on an area between Deer Lodge and Anaconda.

Although you know Letterman's family is mad as hell, there was no immediate response to calls and e-mails seeking comment.
