Kappa Fraternity Brothers on Lockdown!

FAMU Nupes Plead No Contest To Lesser Charge

TALLAHASSEE (AP) - Three Florida A&M University Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity brothers avoided possible prison terms that two other defendants have received for felony hazing by pleading no contest Monday to a lesser charge in the beating of a pledge member.

Each received probation, including 30 days in a sheriff's work camp or a similar program, after pleading to misdemeanor hazing. Prosecutors offered the plea deal after two mistrials. All five were tried together, with the second jury convicting two of them. Both were sentenced to two years in prison. Appeals are pending.
