Looks Like Iconic Black Civil Rights Leader James Bevel Will Die In The Pokey For "Sexually Orientating" His Kids!

Sidebar --

Reverend and one time vice presidential candidate James L. Bevel, arrested last year in Alabama after being indicted on one count of unlawfully committing fornication, has been found guilty of having sex with his daughter 15 years ago. Let The Church Say Amen!

The daughter is one of 16 children Bevel, 71, said he has had with several different women.

"The hardest part is I love my father, and I wish he loved me as much as I love him," The daughter told jurors during the sentencing phase.

According to the grand jury indictment, the crime occurred in northern Virginia between Oct. 14, 1992, and Oct. 14, 1994, when the accuser was 13 to 17 years old. Virginia has no statue of limitations on this type of criminal offense.

A top lieutenant to Martin Luther King Jr. who also helped organize the Million Man March, the brotha faces up to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced. The jury recommended 15.

Bevel's daughter testified that she was repeatedly molested by Bevel beginning when she was just 6 years old, culminating in an act of sexual intercourse in 1993 or 1994 that formed the basis of the incest charge. Good Lord!!!!

Having worked with King and witnessed his assassination in Memphis, Tenn., in 1968, Bevel played a key role in some of the country's major civil rights protests.

At a time when African-Americans were suffering a battery of injustices, Bevel organized the 1963 Children's Crusade in Birmingham, Ala., and was a leader of the Freedom Rides to desegregate public accommodations throughout the South.

And he was an architect of the March on Washington in 1963 and the Selma-to-Montgomery march in Alabama in 1965. He also helped organize the Million Man March in Washington in 1995.

The trial divided members of Bevel's large family, with relatives testifying for both the prosecutor and defense. Even the daughter expressed mixed emotions. As she waited Thursday for a verdict, she was occasionally joined by her father as the two smiled and cooed over the daughter's new baby girl — Bevel's granddaughter.

It took the jury only three hours to convict.

This ain't a Black thing family, it's about protecting our children.

Biggie's Family Gets Handed Down Major Legal Defeat By Judge

The Murder And Slaughter Of The Notorious B.I.G. Continues!

SIDEBAR --

The ongoing legal actions surrounding the 1997 murder of the Notorious B.I.G. (born Christopher Wallace) hit another bump in the road on Monday when a federal judge dismissed a second wrongful-death lawsuit filed by the rapper's family against the city of Los Angeles and former LAPD officer Rafael Pérez.

U.S. District Court Judge Florence-Marie Cooper sided with the defendants and dismissed the case — filed in April — on the grounds that Biggie's family didn't file the claim against the city within the designated time frame. "This was not the primary civil-rights claim, that suit is still going forward," explained Perry Sanders, the lead attorney in the Wallace family's ongoing wrongful-death suit against the city and LAPD.

"This was a standalone action based on state laws, but the rigorous rules state that if you don't file suit within six months of the injury, then the suit cannot go forward, and we didn't find out that Pérez was on duty until August 2006." The April suit alleged that Pérez conspired with fellow former police officers David Mack and Nino Durden to murder the famous rapper and that the city of Los Angeles covered up the officers' involvement to avoid being tangled in a lawsuit that would make the city liable in the killing.

New evidence recently uncovered indicated that Pérez was on duty the night of the rapper's death, though the officer has denied any involvement. Court's Adjourned! MTV ...

DMX: IS MAN NO LONGER A DOG'S BEST FRIEND IF THAT MAN IS A BROTHA?

Cops Claim Drugs Found in Rapper's Home After Raid

PHOENIX -- After searching the home of DMX during an investigation into claims of animal cruelty, the po-po are claiming they found about a half-pound of suspected illegal narcotics.

The Washington Post is reporting that sheriff's deputies raided the talented yet troubled black rapper's crib on Friday, seizing several pit bulls.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office received a tip more than a week ago about dogs being kept in inhumane conditions at the Phoenix-area home.

With albums that include "It's Dark and Hell Is Hot" and "Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood" and "Year of the Dog ... Again," this is not exactly the best news for Earl Simmons, the name his mama gave him before he became DMX.

In 2002, Simmons pleaded guilty to animal cruelty, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia in New Jersey. Police said they found pipes for smoking crack cocaine, a pistol and 13 pit bulls at his home in 1999.

Friday's search was prompted by reports that pit bulls kept by the rapper at the home in rural north Phoenix were not being given enough food or water. A dozen pit bulls were seized, the bodies of three dogs were dug up in the yard and a variety of assault-style weapons were allegedly taken from the home. So far, no arrests have been made.

DMX, 36, was not at home and his lawyer said he hasn't been there for two months. Witnesses, however, placed Simmons at the home within the past three weeks.

The weapons are being checked to see if they are legal, the sheriff said. It's not like he can't carry them, however, since to date he has no felony convictions that would prohibit him from doing so.

Post Imus, More Black Rappers On Lockdown: Po-Po Arrest Ja Rule And Lil Wayne On Weapons Charges

Sidebar--

Ja Rule and Lil Wayne have been charged with criminal possession of a weapon in separate incidents after both were arrested Sunday.

Unless either of them have convictions on their records, these charges would involve a maximum 1 year jail term.

That's not to say their guilty, because you know they start with a presumption of innocence (don't you 'yeah, right' me!)

Reuters is reporting that the best-selling rappers were arrested shortly after Lil Wayne's concert at the Beacon Theatre. It wasn't immediately clear whether Ja Rule had also performed.

Ja Rule, whose real name is Jeff Atkins, lives in Saddle Brook, N.J. Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, is from Miami.

Contact information for their managers could not be found early Monday, and there was no immediate response to messages left with their record company, Universal Motown.

Officers spotted Carter, 24, and another man smoking marijuana by a tour bus near 61st Street and Columbus Avenue at about 11:30 p.m., police said. The officers took the two men into custody, finding a .40-caliber pistol. Both were charged with criminal possession of a weapon and marijuana.

Atkins, 31, was arrested about an hour earlier on West End Avenue. Police said he was in a luxury sedan that was going too fast. Officers stopped the car and arrested the occupants — Atkins, the driver and another man — and found a .40-caliber gun, police said.

Atkins rose to fame in the mid-1990s after appearing on a hit song with Jay-Z and later going on to record platinum-selling solo albums.

Carter's albums include "Tha Block Is Hot," "Lights Out," "Tha Carter" and "Tha Carter II."

"Uh Oh" is the name of a new song by the rappers.

If those weapons were found on their persons, the only way a guilty plea would not be entered into was if the defense sought to challenge the admissability of the evidence based on the illegality of the search, or some other inapropriate detention.

Either way, it's no wonder so many Black folks on this site (did you vote???) don't seem to have a problem with Don Imus returning to the airways after calling sistahs "nappy-headed ho's."
We obviously have other issues we need to be dealing with.

POST DON IMUS, GHETTO & GANGSTA STILL RULE AS RAPPER REMY MA GETS POPPED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER

Sidebar --

Female rap star Remy Ma, has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and other charges today (July 15), after she surrendered to authorities yesterday for allegedly shooting and seriously wounding a childhood acquaintance during a dispute outside of a Manhattan bar early Saturday morning (July 14).

Remy Ma is being held on Rikers Island, as a judge sided with prosecutors bail request of $250,000.

Her attorney Scott Leemon told AllHipHop.com that a judge recently approved Remy Ma's bond and she is expected to be released from custody by the end of the day.

Remy Ma Accused of Firing at Man in 2003

A member of Fat Joe's Terror Squad, Ma turned herself in yesterday for attempted murder.

The Bronx, New York native is accused of having allegedly shot friend Makeda Barnes-Joseph twice in the abdomen at close range on early Saturday morning.

The incident seems to have arisen over missing money. Ma was out celebrating a friend's birthday with longtime pal Barnes-Joseph, when she noticed cash missing from her wallet. Cops believe Ma accused Barnes-Joseph of taking the cash and then shot her in revenge.

Immediately after the shooting, Ma fled the scene by car, but crashed into another auto only a few blocks away from the shooting. She then jumped out of her car and took a taxi. A few hours later Ma turned herself in to police, accompanied by her lawyer. The full charges include attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

Ma, who was nominated for a Grammy with Fat Joe in 2004 for the hit, "Lean Back," had been sought earlier for questioning in the shooting.

The 26-year-old rapper, whose real name is Remy Smith, was heard to have first had the verbal despute near a bar in the Meatpacking District of Manhattan.

The rapper's manager said Saturday that she could not talk and referred calls to Remy Ma's attorney, who was with the rapper as she reported to police. "I ask everyone to keep an open mind," attorney Scott Leemon said. "Things are not always as they seem." He said an arraignment would be likely be held today, Sunday.

Meanwhile the victim, Makeda Barnes-Joseph, was in stable condition at a local hospital.

Sasha Tcherekoff, owner of the Pizza Bar, said a review of security videotape taken inside his nightspot showed the rapper and her friends having a good time before they exited. "The police have indicated to us that the altercation happened a block away," the owner said. "The security tapes determined there was no physical or verbal altercation while they were in the Pizza Bar."

Remy won "Best Female Hip Hop" award at the 2005 BET Awards. She went on to a solo career, releasing last year's "There's Something About Remy." In addition to her work with Fat Joe, she has also appeared on recordings with best-selling performers Keyshia Cole, Eminem and R. Kelly.

Expect a self-defense argument from her legal team, knowing that she could be looking at prison time if this goes to trial!

WE TOLD YOU SO: PARIS SERVES MORE TIME THAN MOST BLACK & LATINO JAIL INMATES

Hilton Will Do More Time Than Most

Whether Hilton received special treatment from the Sheriff's Department has become the subject of much debate everywhere except here.

As a former superior judge who worked alongside Judge Michael Sauer and handled identical cases, I told you that there was nothing usual about this case.

Other than the fact that we're talking about a rich heir to the Hilton fortune.

The Times analyzed 2 million jail releases and found 1,500 cases since July 2002 that — like there Hilton's — involved defendants who had been arrested for drunk driving and later sentenced to jail after a probation violation or driving without a license.

Had Hilton left jail for good after four days, her stint behind bars would have been similar to those served by 60% of those inmates.

Earlier this month, I said the exact same thing. Take a look:

Again, this is not rocket science family. This really is not about Paris as much as it it about the Sheriff's Department's early-release program, which sets inmates free before their sentences are up to ease overcrowding.

According to The Times, over the last five years, more than 200,000 inmates have been released early.

Baca started the releases during a budget crunch that he said left him no choice but to shut large portions of the nation's largest county correctional system.

On previous occasions, jail officials have ignored orders from judges to keep particular inmates in jail for their full sentences, saying that they first must comply with a federal court's restrictions on overcrowding.

But sheriff's officials pledged before Hilton's arrival that she would serve 23 days, after calculating discounts for good behavior.

AS HILTON FAMILY BYPASSES BLACKS AND LATINOS IN LINE, ONE INMATE FIGHTS BACK: NO PARIS TREATMENT, NO PEACE!

LA Braces For First Of Many Hilton- Related Lawsuits

Sidebar --

A Black veteran was allegedly treated like crap during her stint in the Los Angeles County Jail earlier this year.

So who did Pamela Richardson call? Super Glo!

Using the "young, white, rich" strategy, attorney Gloria Allred is using Paris Hilton to go after the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.

More Warranted Criticism When Hiltons Get Special Treatment After Visiting Paris

A double amputee as a result of active duty, Richardson said she was denied serious medical attention during her March 2007 stay in the Century Regional Detention Center -- "a direct contrast to Paris Hilton."

As a result, the Army Specialist 6 sistah claims that a hernia went untreated and she was denied her cancer medication.

Worst of all, she claims to have been verbally bashed with statements such as, "This ain't no Marriott," and "Crawl your fat ass on the floor" while trying to take a shower without the use of her prosthetic leg.

Although she was arrested for undisclosed reasons, charges were never filed against Richardson.

Richardson, 51, was held at the Lynwood facility that Paris stayed in for three days. "She was treated like a queen compared to what I got" Richardson stated.

Civil Right Leaders Partnering With Paris?????

The price for the mistreatment? Looks like one million of those pretty little green ones just might do the trick.

BREAKING NEWS: WOMAN PLOWS DOWN BLACK FOLKS AT DC FESTIVAL

Sistah Creates Havoc With Her Car, Injures 35

Sidebar --

WASHINGTON — A station wagon carrying a 7-year-old child left misery and destruction Saturday night in the city's Anacostia neighborhood during Unifest, an annual event sponsored by a church.

Tonya Bell, 30, of Oxon Hill, Md., was charged with aggravated assault while armed as she rode through several blocks at a crowded street festival in a predominantly Black community. Police had to throw their motorcycles in front of the car just to get it to stop before folks literally had to pull the woman out the car.

Other charges, including child endangerment, driving under the influence, and felonious reckless driving will likely be added. If the child in the car belongs to Bell, expect the courts to take custody away from her.

Witnesses said strollers were flung into the air and one person was trapped beneath the car's wheels during the terrifying chaos. In all, 35 people were struck, seven severely. The injured included two children under age 3 and two police officers who drove their motor scooters into the driver's path in an attempt to stop her, authorities said.

Alan Etter, a spokesman for the District of Columbia fire department, said authorities believe Bell was going about 70 mph driving erratically when she tore through the festival.

Many at the scene described a period of mayhem in which Tonya Bell started off slowly through some closed streets before finally pressing the accelerator on the avenue, hitting a stage with choir singers performing and people dancing.

David White said Bell grew up in the neighborhood and saw her Saturday morning, driving erratically and clipping parked cars. He said when he confronted the African-American female, she acted like she didn't know him.

"I said, 'Tonya, what are you doing?' She was sweating like a race horse. We tried our best to stop her. ... She was just in a deranged state of mind," White said.

One question, did folks contact police that morning to alert them to this situation? Because if they were trying to keep this on the hush-hush, they should bear some responsibility for what happened.

BLACK POLICE CHIEF PIMP-SLAPS WHITE OFFICERS FOR STOPPING HIM

Sidebar --

Ennis, Texas School District Police Chief Kevin Haynes is out on $4000.00 bond relating to his arrest Saturday night by Ovilla police near his home.

The chief will likely be charged with the offenses of driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest and assault on a public servant.

Unfortunately for Haynes, the smackdown was captured on tape and trust us, it ain't pretty:

We suspect a plea will be forthcoming very soon.

What's in question, however, is whether this brother will be out of a gig. Currently, he's on paid administrative leave.

In April, Haynes was honored by Jack Lummus Memorial VFW Post 7106 as outstanding police officer for Ennis.

Do you think they're gonna want the award back?

SIDEBAR --

BLACK JUDGE GETS TAKEN TO THE CLEANERS ASKING $65 MIL FOR LOST PANTS

When the neighborhood dry cleaner misplaced Administrative Law Judge Roy Pearson's pants, he took action.

Two years, thousands of pages of legal documents and many hundreds of hours of work later, Pearson is seeking to make Ki Jin and Soo Chung -- the Korean family that owns Custom Cleaners, pay.

Pearson says he deserves over 65 million dollars for the damages he suffered by not getting his pants back, for his litigation costs, for "mental suffering, inconvenience and discomfort," for the value of the 1000 hours he has spent on the lawsuit, $15,000 for leasing a car for 10 years to drive to and from a new cleaners, and a replacement suit, according to court papers.

The cost of the original alteration work on the brother's pants - $10.50.

Sherman Joyce, president of the American Tort Reform Association, wrote to the Commission on Selection and Tenure of Administrative Law Judges. Here's some excerpts:

On behalf of the American Tort Reform Association, which works to combat lawsuit abuse, I urge you to carefully reconsider the reappointment of Administrative Law Judge Roy Pearson Jr. to a 10-year term, scheduled to commence in three days on May 2.

Though the pants have long since been found and made available to him, Judge Pearson has stubbornly continued to waste precious Superior Court resources in a clearly misguided effort to extort a hardworking family...

In a letter to the editor in today’s Washington Post, former National Labors Relations Board chief administrative law judge Melvin Welles urged “any bar to which Mr. Pearson belongs to immediately disbar him..."

If Pearson goes ahead with his lawsuit, any party who comes before him in future administrative hearings could understandably lack confidence in his judgment and judicial temperament. Furthermore, this case will become fodder for late-night comics, various members of Congress and other assorted critics of D.C. government if this case, scheduled for trial June 11, remains in the headlines.

With his bio no longer on the Office of Administrative Hearing's website, was Pearson re-appointed? Stay Tuned!!!

BYE-BYE TO CAMERA TRAFFIC TICKETS? NOT SO FAST FAMILY

Lawmakers Cracking Down On Spray That Can't View License Plate In Pictures

SIDEBAR--

Whether it's going through toll roads, bridges or a local intersection, cameras are catching traffic offenders all over the country. What's becoming increasingly tough, however, is catching them because of a photo blocker spray folks are using on their license plates.

Check Out All The Details About Photo Blocker Spray

When the camera hits the license plates, the light overexposes the plate and you can't read the actual picture. Of course, when that happens, authorities can't send the driver a ticket.

"For somebody to purposely spray this on their license plate to try to circumvent the system and get away with running the red light is very, very dangerous," Officer Konrad Von Schoech, of the Sacramento Police Department, said.

What the officer didn't say is that his vehicles, and his friend's friend's vehicles, all have the spray that goes on clear and only costs 30 bucks.

The California Assembly recently took steps to approved a ban prohibiting drivers from using the sprays. If the proposal passes, violators face up to a $1000 fine and/or six months in jail.

Good luck enforcing that law! You can't even tell who's using it.

ABORTION METHOD SHOT DOWN BY CONSERVATIVE COURT, BANG-BANG ACLU

Sidebar --

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Supreme Court just tossed anti-abortion forces a major victory.

For the first time since establishing a woman's right to an abortion in 1973, the justices upheld a nationwide ban on a specific abortion method, labeled partial-birth abortion by its opponents.

The 5-4 court decision said the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act that Congress passed and President Bush signed into law in 2003 does not violate a woman's abortion rights, despite not containing an exception that would allow the procedure if needed to preserve a woman's health.

Doctors who violate the law face up to two years in federal prison.

DUKE CASE DISMISSED - JURY STILL OUT ON LESSONS LEARNED (Update)

Misplaced Sympathy For These Privileged Males????
This is a must read. Click here.

Three White Duke University students were accused some 400 days ago of sexually assaulting a African-American college student, single mother and stripper at a private party.

Saying the lacrosse athletes were simply victims of a "tragic rush to accuse" by an overreaching district attorney, North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper asserted that these defendants were completely innocent - not that there was merely not enough evidence.

"There were many points in the case where caution would have served justice better than bravado," Cooper said in a damning assessment of District Attorney Mike Nifong's handling of the sensational case. Taking over the case after Nifong was charged with ethics violations that could get him disbarred, Cooper said his investigation "led us to the conclusion that no attack occurred."

Much like the ongoing Imus controversy, this firestorm touched upon issues such as race, gender and class.

To hear Reade Seligman talk about a "tragic system of injustice" that he "never knew existed" is encouraging. For scores of disenfranchised folks wrongly accused, maybe - just maybe, these Duke students can be their voice.

STATESBORO (AP) — A White Georgia woman who claims Chris Rock is the father of her child is withdrawing a lawsuit filed last month in Georgia and is now refiling it in New York, according to a published report.

Kali Bowyer claims the 42-year-old actor and comedian is the father of her child. The kid, now 13, has some health problems and she needs to know the child's medical history.

Rock and his wife, Malaak (pictured), have been married for 10 years. They have two young children and live in Brooklyn, New York. (Divorce looming? - click here)

He's not denying he got busy with this woman. If Bowler prevails, expect Rock to cough up money for court costs, attorney fees and medical bills. After all, this will be a no-brainer in terms of child support if results point to the brother who won't let go of the "n" word.
