IT'S COUNTY JAIL FOR NICOLE RITCHIE

Maybe girls just want to have fun, but now they're doing jail time.

Nicole Richie has told authorities through her attorney that she intends to serve her 90-hour sentence in Los Angeles County jail rather than a "pay to stay" program in a municipal lockup.

Richie was arrested Dec. 11 by California Highway Patrol officers after driving the wrong way on the 134 Freeway in Burbank. Officers said they found her stopped in the carpool lane. She told officers she had smoked weed and taken the painkiller Vicodin. She had been previously arrested on suspicion of possessing heroin and spent time in rehabilitation.

Her gal pal and former "Simple Life" co-star Paris Hilton recently spent her time behind bars.
Richie has until Sept. 28 to begin serving her time.

Los Angeles - Paris Hilton, in her first interview since being released from jail, told CNN's "Larry King Live" she has a new outlook on life and sees her time in jail as a "blessing in disguise."

Hilton served a 23-day sentence for violating her probation on an alcohol-related reckless driving conviction.

"I think in life, everyone makes mistakes, and you have to learn and grow from them," Hilton said. "I've been a little immature in the past and made some wrong choices, but I've learned from them, and that makes me the person that I am today ... I have a new outlook on life."

Hilton, 26, described jail life to King, saying her meals consisted of "mystery meat" and "jail slop" but countered reports of drastic weight loss, saying she had only lost a couple of pounds. Her fellow inmates were "really nice," she said, and the hardest thing for her was speaking to her family through glass -- particularly on Father's Day when she could not give her father a hug.

Asked whether she took any portion of her sentence lightly, Hilton said, "I was locked in a cell for 3 1/2 weeks. It was a horrible experience. I did my time."

Paris Continues To Wreak Havoc On Delgadillo's Rocky Political Career

Now being accused of using staff for non-work related purposes, City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo is definitely not having his best week ever!

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that the city's top prosecutor illegally enlisted members of his office staff to run personal errands and baby-sit his two boys, ages 6 and 3, including taking them to museums and other local attractions.

Through a spokesperson, Delgadillo confirmed yesterday that this in fact did occur. "On occasion, city staff members -- some of whom the city attorney has known for many years -- have watched the Delgadillos' children on their own personal time," according to the statement.

Is Rocky permanently burnt? The city attorney has been the subject of multiple disclosures in recent days, all reflecting inattention or an above-the-law attitude.

There are even details coming forth about Michelle Delgadillo's business license lapsing, and her failure to file tax returns for the venture.

On Wednesday, Mrs. Delgadillo was sentenced to one year of summary probation and ordered to pay fines totaling around $1,300 for a 1998 driving without a valid driver's license misdemeanor. She pleaded no contest to the charge as well as failing to appear in court.

The sentencing came two days after Delgadillo's Ivy-league Latino husband admitted he had "occasionally" allowed his wife to drive his city-owned vehicle for personal errands, a possible violation of ethics rules.

In the last three years, the Delgadillos were chronically late in paying fines for at least five parking tickets. Michelle Delgadillo had an accident in 2004 while driving her husband's city-assigned GMC Yukon, which was repaired at taxpayer expense. The city attorney has now reimbursed the city for the $1,222 repair.

The disclosures began after Delgadillo's office insisted Paris Hilton serve a 45-day prison term for violating probation by driving with a suspended license.

Sheriff Lee Baca, who unsuccessfully tried to have Hilton serve her sentence at her Hollywood Hills home, candidly maintained that hotel heiress was subjected to a harsher standard than normal by the courts because of her celebrity status.

And she was, as we reporter here.

Paris, 26, is scheduled to be released this Tuesday, June 26.

After ducking questions for more than a week, City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo admitted Monday that his wife was behind the wheel of his city-assigned SUV and driving with a suspended license when she damaged it in an accident three years ago.

The termed-out Delgadillo, rumored to be eying a run for District Attorney after his failed bid to become California's Attorney General, reportedly teared up as he faced a swarm of reporters.

Rocky, who can thank Congressional Black Caucus member Maxine Waters for handing him the Black vote in an upset victory in 2001, is taking some body blows and is clearly on the ropes.

Well, blame it on Paris Hilton for temporarily dashing Delgadillo's future 'Obama White House' aspirations.

Trying to land some punches by insisting that the celebutante be severely punished for driving on a suspended license, folks are now questioning the 46 year-old Harvard politico's honesty over the city footing the tab to repair the vehicle.

Count on the Hilton media frenzy to not make this controversy go away anytime soon. And don't think Latino L.A. County Sheriff Lee Baca is not looking over his shoulder as well.

VIVICA FOX DISHES ON PARIS HILTON AND HER OWN DUI ARREST

A more humble, less ghetto Vivica A. Fox arrived at the Daytime Emmy Awards Friday night saying she regrets her arrest for drunken driving.

"It was a huge learning lesson...," Fox said backstage at the Kodak Theatre, where she was a presenter for the television awards show.

The 42-year-old actress was charged in March with misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit.

Set to star in and produce a sequel to "Two Can Play That Game," Fox said she is in the process of resolving her case.

"It was an unfortunate judgment that I am taking full responsibility in," she said. "It is so not worth what you go through for getting a DUI."

Hilton Will Do More Time Than Most

Whether Hilton received special treatment from the Sheriff's Department has become the subject of much debate everywhere except here.

As a former superior judge who worked alongside Judge Michael Sauer and handled identical cases, I told you that there was nothing usual about this case.

Other than the fact that we're talking about a rich heir to the Hilton fortune.

The Times analyzed 2 million jail releases and found 1,500 cases since July 2002 that — like there Hilton's — involved defendants who had been arrested for drunk driving and later sentenced to jail after a probation violation or driving without a license.

Had Hilton left jail for good after four days, her stint behind bars would have been similar to those served by 60% of those inmates.

Again, this is not rocket science family. This really is not about Paris as much as it it about the Sheriff's Department's early-release program, which sets inmates free before their sentences are up to ease overcrowding.

According to The Times, over the last five years, more than 200,000 inmates have been released early.

Baca started the releases during a budget crunch that he said left him no choice but to shut large portions of the nation's largest county correctional system.

On previous occasions, jail officials have ignored orders from judges to keep particular inmates in jail for their full sentences, saying that they first must comply with a federal court's restrictions on overcrowding.

But sheriff's officials pledged before Hilton's arrival that she would serve 23 days, after calculating discounts for good behavior.

More Warranted Criticism When Hiltons Get Special Treatment After Visiting Paris

A double amputee as a result of active duty, Richardson said she was denied serious medical attention during her March 2007 stay in the Century Regional Detention Center -- "a direct contrast to Paris Hilton."

As a result, the Army Specialist 6 sistah claims that a hernia went untreated and she was denied her cancer medication.

Worst of all, she claims to have been verbally bashed with statements such as, "This ain't no Marriott," and "Crawl your fat ass on the floor" while trying to take a shower without the use of her prosthetic leg.

Although she was arrested for undisclosed reasons, charges were never filed against Richardson.

Richardson, 51, was held at the Lynwood facility that Paris stayed in for three days. "She was treated like a queen compared to what I got" Richardson stated.

As a result of her most recent ordeal, what do now Paris Hilton and Black women have in common?

They both know what it's like for life not to be fair.

I think I am on safe ground by saying if you are reading this, this is not the first online article you are reading about the now infamous Paris Hilton.

Again, as I have said regarding many other sensational stories, I fought hard not to write about this.

However, as always, a Black woman's perspective on issues like this is always limited in white American media. Therefore, I've decided to add my two cents.

A civil rights activist and family members of L.A. County jail inmates want some answers.

On Tuesday, June 12th they wiil convene downtown demanding an investigation of the LA Sheriffs department because of their early release of Paris Hilton.

Najee Ali, Director of Project Islamic Hope, will insist that the L.A. Board of Supervisors require Sheriff Lee Baca to provide them with a list of every incarcerated female with physical or emotional ailments currently housed within that institution's medical ward.

REVEREND AL SHARPTON - MOVE OVER NAJEE, I GOT THIS PARIS THING!

They are particularly interested in determining how many of these individuals were eligible for house arrest and the number of inmates given that option.

Who would have thought that Paris Hilton would be the catalyst to a very needed discussion on prison conditions and reform?

MISSING WHITE WOMEN GETS MEDIA BLITZ, MISSING BLACK WOMAN PREEMPTED BY PARIS HILTON

Stepha Henry, 22, who recently graduated with honors from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, is missing.

Unlike the media circus surrounding the latest about Paris Hilton, the media coverage on this case has been underwhelming, to say the least.

The young black woman had gone to the sunshine state during the Memorial Day weekend to help her sister celebrate her 16th birthday.

She was last seen May 29 at Peppers Cafe in Sunrise, about 10 miles west of Fort Lauderdale.

Police indicated that the last cell phone signal from Henry's phone came from the area of the club at around 4:13 a.m.

Henry was preparing to apply to law school, while working as an intern with the president of the college.

Authorities, family members and Henry's friends said they suspect foul play, noting she is not the type of person to just run off. Her mother says she will not leave until she finds her baby girl.

Investigators questioned a man who picked up Henry at her aunt's house in Miami Gardens. The man told police he and Henry separated at the club and she was there with other friends.

While there's been some media coverage about this case, it certainly has not been the wall-to-wall, nationwide attention that 18-year-old Kelsey Smith received.

Smith is the white Kansas teen who was abducted and murdered after she left a Target store.

Two young women missing, two different levels in media coverage.

Why? Inquiring minds what to know!

SHOULD BLACK JAIL INMATES DEMAND THE HILTON TREATMENT?

A livid judge, police officials, prosecutors, and much of the public railed against Paris Hilton's release as blatant celebrity favoritism.

It was certainly that. But the irony is that Hilton was and should have been released early precisely because she couldn't get the quality treatment she needed at the jail.

The problem, of course, is that neither can any of those who aren't rich and famous like her, and won't get favored prisoner treatment.

A significant number of prisoners in the L.A. county jail, and in other overstuffed jails around the country are released without having had a medical exam.

There is no way of telling what kind of mental ailments they suffer from.

That virtually insures that those individuals with the same untreated mental problems that got them locked up in the first place will be jailed again.

Unlike Hilton, the overwhelming majority of them are poor, indigent, minority, and like her increasingly female.

They have absolutely no access to any quality psychiatric care and treatment behind bars. The majority of them, like Hilton, are not violent offenders, but were convicted of petty, low level crimes.

The magnitude of the crisis of the mentally challenged imprisoned is so great that the L.A. County system now has the dubious distinction of being the biggest mental health facility in the nation.

The Federal Bureau of Justice estimates that more than a quarter-million offenders are warehoused in America's jails and prisons that suffer acute mental problems.

That's about sixteen percent of the total jail population in America. In California's jails alone, an estimated 85,000 prisoners suffer mental ailments.

A report in 2004 lambasted the county for the chronic shortage of doctors, nurses, medicines, and support services at the L.A. jails.

While there have been some modest improvements in the general quality of medical care for inmates within the jails, for many inmates -- especially the mentally ill -- the conditions are still severe.

HILLARY NEEDS WHITE WOMEN LIKE PARIS HILTON TO WIN THE WHITE HOUSE

Once You Go Black Paris...

Support from women is propelling Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) ahead of her Democratic challengers and positioning her as the most likely candidate to win the nomination, according to new polling analyses.

In a show of strength against Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), Clinton holds a lead even among minority women of more than 25 percentage points, according to surveys by Zogby International and The Pew Research Center for the People and the Press.

But Clinton's standing among female voters within the wider electorate so far does not suggest that women would give her an advantage over a Republican in the general election.

Clinton, the first female presidential candidate with a realistic chance of winning the White House, would need to carry the women's vote decisively in a general election to overcome what surveys consistently have shown as her unpopularity among men.

The Clinton campaign said it would give special attention to white married working women, a group Democratic strategists have treated as the pivotal voting bloc in recent elections.

"They are a challenge for any Democrat," says Ann Lewis, who heads Clinton's outreach to women.

Now that Hilton is hanging out in her McMansion essentially on lockdown, we think she would make a great phonebank volunteer for either party or candidate. Don't you agree?

PARIS HILTON FREE AND IT'S ALL IN HER HEAD

Law enforcement sources report Paris Hilton's medical condition was purely psychological and that she was in peril of having a nervous breakdown, and that's why she was released early this morning and allowed to remain on house arrest for an additional 40 days.

Psychiatrist Charles Sophy visited Hilton in jail yesterday and the day before.

We're told after Sophy's visit yesterday, word was passed to the Sheriff that Hilton's mental state was fragile and she was at risk. The reason for releasing her had nothing to do with a rash or other physical issues.

OK, I think Richard Pryor said it best when he talked about the possibility of being put in jail. I have to act like I'm crazy or just keep the boys laughing and I'm one funny n**** so I'm going to keep'em laughing all night, any thing to give up the booty.

Paris Hilton is not as funny as Richard Pryor so she went with the GOING CRAZY loop hole. And who can blame her. She's locked in a cell all by herself for 23yrs days.
