Last Thursday morning this is how the conversation went between Me (M) and Her (H) :

M: Ok honey you’ve been moping around here for the last week, What's Up?
H: Well you should know how I feel. I lived in New York City for 17 years and for 15 of those years “I listen to Imus In The Morning.” So I love me some Don Imus.
M: "Ok 'Lucy' you got some ‘splainin' to do!”
H: Look when I was working my way through college. I worked grave yard shift all night long and came home, turned Imus on the radio and he kept me awake so I could study before going to class.
M: Coffee wasn’t enough?
H: Hell no, I said graveyard shift didn't? Then later, when we were dating and you would jet in from LA, I still had to get up at 6am and get dressed for work and you slept in.
M: Well ...??
H: Well I really wanted to wake you up to talk to me. But there was Imus, on the radio, keeping me company, so you could sleep in peace.
M: OK ...
H: You see I was listening to Imus before I met you, after we broke up, and still after we got back together.
M: Preach on reverend.
H: In fact Imus kept me from finding another man during that time we were broke up.
M: How’s that?
H: Well you know how I love a funny man ... or I wouldn’t be with you right?
M: Right.
H: Well Imus was funny enough on the radio where I didn’t need another man, ... so thank Imus for keeping me CELIBATE FOR YOU.
M: Say what?
H: In fact, if it wasn't for Imus, you and I would NEEEVER got back together.
M: How’s that?

H: For two weeks Imus went on vacation for some surgery. Yup' and that was just the opening you needed.
M: Come again?
H: He was gone ... there was a void. Back, in, my, life, steps' you.
M: Well thank you Mr. Imus!
H: See, now you get it!
M: But Baby that’s all changed. Now we live in LA and he’s wasn't on the radio here.
H: Yes, but at 2am he’s was on MSNBC, and you know I can’t sleep at night, right?
M: Right so …
H: So when you have those late night poker games and you try tipping in here 10 minutes passed 2am ...Well for those 10 minutes I’ve been looking at Imus. I’m laughing and in a good mood. So you could say Imus has kept you from getting a serous butt kicking.

M: Therefore …
H: Therefore, with all Imus has done for us, you really should be kissing his A…
M: Alright, alright I get it, but Honey when Imus talks about those “Nappy Headed Ho’s at Rutgers ... he’s also talking about our two girls.
H: He’s talking about MY GIRLS? Little Tiki and Briana? Nappy headed Ho?
M: Now ya' get it
H: You know little Tiki is only six years old and already sensitive about her nappy, kinky hair and her sister Briana's straight hair, “How come Briana’s hair doesn’t get tangled up?”, “How come Briana doesn’t cry when you comb HER hair? “ “I want hair like Briana's, ... I WANT GOOOOD HAIR!!”

M: So what are you saying about Imus now?
H: That Negro, had to go.

Is it just our imagination or is something going on Black people. I first noticed it when my kids insisted that I look at the latest Hallmark Father's Day commercial.

Have you seen it? This one features some bald, middle-age, surburban White guy receiving a Father's Day card from his equaling vanilla-looking family.

Upon opening the card, MC Hammer's "Can't Touch This" starts playing. Cut to this same guy now looking like - and what's even more hilarious - dancing like Hammer.

Play that funky music White boy... this dude has the moves.

Because my boys thought this was the funniest thing, I decided to go old school and show them this:
So now me, my wife and the whole family is dancing. My oldest then insists we watch this:
All of a sudden, I feel the need to find my Hammer's Greatest Hits CD. Is it because, as Minnie Ripperton once sang, I'm "Back Down Memory Lane?"

I don't think so. I like good music. I like music that's not calling women bitches, and every other word is not n**** this, n***** that. A 2005-06 study by the Black Youth Project showed I'm not alone. A majority of youth between the ages of 15 to 25 think rap has too many violent images and negative language.

The survey was one of the most comprehensive ever to focus on young African-Americans, according to the Associated Press.

With Black music executives getting 40+ years in prison, and plaintiff cries about the death of hip hop intensifying, this whole "Nappy Headed Ho's" controversy is much bigger than we first realized family.

Don't get distracted by Al Sharpton. What an old, crazy-looking White man said about those African-American sisters from Rutgers will, undoubtedly, go down in history and as the moment when our people finally had to stop and take a good look at ourselves. Thank you Don Imus. Job well done.

Normally we here at "three brothers and A Sister" are so busy handling our business, posting, and living life that we aren't really paying attention to the advertising on the blog being run by Google.

After promising my girl that I was getting off the computer so we could go to the beach with the kids to celebrate Mother's Day, something suddenly caught my attention.

It was an ad saying "Buy your I Love Imus T-shirt" here.

Already online longer than I had anticipated, at the risk of consulting with a divorce attorney -- I had to click.

ALMOST 8 HOURS LATER...

Jamming some India.Arie in the SUV, we had a nice scenic ride up to Santa Barbara (fyi - Where Dr. Oprah is chilling these days). The weather was typical Southern California -- sans the fires, Paris Hilton addicts, and police beating down illegals and the media.

I had fun rollerblading as my boys frantically rode scooters in their unsuccessful efforts to keep up. All the while, the boss flip-flopped from one craft booth to the next, happy to be out mindlessly enjoying her day.

After filling up on some Mexican grub, we decided to drive further and find a nice place to chill for a minute.

On our way to this oceanside spot called "The Brown Pellican", my wife simultaneously blurted out exactly what I was thinking, "Is that a SAMBO'S RESTAURANT???"

And just that quick, we were Black again!

I couldn't get home fast enough to finish this post!

Once I logged on, I immediately saw that someone had left a comment (thanks for the heads-up on the typo). Now I really want to get into this issue of constantly being "on watch".

When it comes to our people, it's like the situation in Iraq. We are in a war that can't be won but casualties keep mounting under the belief that success it just around the corner, and failure is not an option although every one's Plan B sucks.

NEW YORK - Two more New York jocks have been permanently benched by CBS Radio.

Jeff Vandergrift and Dan Lay broadcast a phone conversation to a Chinese restuarant in which the caller, in an exaggerated accent, placed an order for "shrimp flied lice," claimed he was a student of kung fu, and compared menu items to employees' body parts.

Making their comments one day after the "Nappy Headed Ho" brouhaha on April 4, a re-airing of the offensive crank call prompted Asian groups to go all Bruce Lee on CBS.

Initially suspended without pay, the pair were Imus'd after defending the indefensible became too much to stomach for the network that's losing it's shock punk roster faster than Rush Limbaugh can re-air that "Barack The Magic Negro" clip.

"This is a victory not only for the Asian-American community, but for all communities who find themselves constant targets of racist and sexist programming," said Jeanette Wang, an executive with the Organization of Chinese Americans.

Ironically, "The Dog House with JV and Elvis," aired on WFNY-FM immediately after Opie and Anthony, two other shock jocks also in the dog house.

Gregg "Opie" Hughes and Anthony Cumia return to the CBS radio airwaves this Monday after a segment on their satellite radio program where they laughed as a homeless man fantasized about "punching in the f****** face and f******" Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and "having sex" with First Lady Laura Bush.

How they're justifying having these clowns pollute the airwaves, even if it is XM's no-listener-satellite-radio station, is unfathomable.

The Rev Al, who assumed a major role in Don Imus' ouster, said Saturday that he wanted to meet with Hughes and Cumia's bosses at XM Satellite over the rape comments on their show. "My personal feeling is they should have already been fired," said Sharpton.

One night earlier, Sharpton went head-up with former Imus producer Bernard McGuirk on the Fox News Channel.

McGuirk was also kicked to the curb from WFAN-AM along with his boss. McGuirk called Sharpton a "race-baiter" looking for attention when he led the campaign to fire Imus.

Rev Al's response? They got eactly what they deserved.

President and general manager of NBC affiliate KNBC and regional gm of Telemundo affiliates KVEA and KWHY, this bad, no-nonsense sister was named executive vp for diversity for NBC Universal.

“We are a company wholly committed to diversity and to a culture that stands for respect, tolerance and inclusiveness,” said Jeff Zucker, NBC Universal president and CEO. “As one of our key business operatives, diversity deserves the attention of a full-time dedicated executive.”

In 1971 C. Delores Tucker became the first African-American woman Secretary of State in the US, serving for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania until 1977.

Ms. Tucker dedicated much of the last few years of her life to removing sexually explicit lyrics from rap and hip-hop tracks, citing a concern that the lyrics were misogynistic and threatened the moral foundation of the African American community.

Called "narrow-minded" by some rappers who often called her out in their lyrics, Ms. Tucker picketed stores that sold rap music and bought stock in labels like Sony, Time Warner, and others in order to protest hip-hop at their shareholders' meetings.

She also fought against the NAACP's decision to nominate late rapper Tupac Shakur for one of its Image Awards .

Tucker subsequently filed a $10 million lawsuit against his estate for comments that the rapper made in his song "How Do U Want It?" on the album All Eyez on Me, in which Shakur rapped "Delores Tucker you's a motherfucker / Instead of trying to help a nigga you destroy your brother".

As talented as you were Tupac, you could not have been more wrong. C. Delores Tucker wasn't trying to destroy you like so many around you -- she was trying to save you!

With more artists on the bandwagon decrying hip hop for its violence and misogyny, the timing of these statements from Master P’s seem suspect and self serving:

"I can honestly say that I was once part of the problem and now it's time to be part of the solution. I am ready to take a stand by cleaning up my music and follow my son's footsteps and make a clean rap album" P said in a statement given to AllHipHip.com.

The entrepreneur and his son Romeo have launched Take A Stand Records and are currently searching for "hip-hop artists with street music without offensive lyrics," according to Robert Percy "Master P" Miller.

While the firing of radio host Don Imus has sparked debate about the death of hip-hop as we know it, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and the NAACP are suddenly back in vogue over an issue the late C. Delores Tucker championed for years.

"It's time for us to take a stand and be responsible for our own actions," P said. "Personally, I have profited millions of dollars through explicit rap lyrics, and I am willing to accept my responsibility. Hip-Hop is about our neighborhoods, the reality of what is going on within them, and dreaming big."

THE SELF-SERVING:

Master P went on to say, "We are no longer making typical record distribution deals. We're planning to team up with companies such as Wal-Mart, Target, and other companies that have direct contact with our communities."

That's what I call entertainment - detailing violent felonies against women. LOL!!!!!!!

The foul exchange took place on XM satellite radio. But then a recording appeared on Drudge, orbiting the comments beyond XM's anemic audience.

CBS-owned 92.3 "Free FM" said it had no plans to take "Opie & Anthony" off the air.

"We apologize for comments that were made on our XM show... We take very seriously -- blah, blah, blah -- responsibility that comes -- blah, blah -- regret any -- blah, blah, blah ..." per a XM spokeshole. Here's their lame apology.

SPARKS FLY AT "THE HOUSE" OVER BLACK ATHLETES

Negative images of Black athletes stem from societal issues, not something inherent to the athletes, per an A-list panel on the Black athlete at Morehouse College.

“We have not stood up and taken ownership of ourselves,” said National Football League Hall of Fame running back, actor and activist Jim Brown. “We have a Willie Lynch concept. Whose responsibility is it to change that? It’s ours.”

Brown was part of a star-studded group on a panel about the Black athlete, a forum put together by filmmaker and Morehouse alum Spike Lee. The panel included Rutgers University women’s basketball coach C. Vivian Stringer, Miami Heat center Alonzo Mourning, and Kansas City Star and AOL Black Voices sports columnist Jason Whitlock.

The discussion was part of the introduction of journalist Ron Thomas as head of Morehouse’s new sports journalism program — a program Thomas said will focus on research, writing and interviewing techniques with the goal of increasing the number of minority sports journalists.

The most highly charged 15 minutes of the spicy forum came when Stringer questioned Whitlock about a column he wrote in the wake of former talk radio host Don Imus’ labeling of Rutgers players as “nappy headed ‘hos.”

In his April 11 column, Whitlock labeled Stringer an opportunist for holding a “nationally televised recruiting celebration expertly disguised as a news conference” and questioned the motives of Reverend's Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. Monday at Morehouse, Stringer’s anger at Whitlock’s column was on full display.

“I just want to understand your mindset. I want to understand people like you" she said. “I’ll be doggoned if I sit back and let that man speak of them as he did,” Stringer went on. “The truth of the matter is [Jackson and Sharpton] were the only people who spoke up. I didn’t care if they fired Imus or not. But I know this — I was going to defend those young ladies."

IMUS CLAIMS CBS & MSNBC CULPABLE IN SLUR MISHAP

A lawyer for Don Imus said Friday that the former radio host's bosses could have edited the on-air comments that got him fired _ and the fact that they didn't meant they saw his remarks as routine for his often-provocative show. Attorney Martin Garbus told ABC-TV's "Good Morning America" that CBS Radio and MSNBC had delay buttons but didn't use them when Imus made racist and sexist comments about the Rutgers women's basketball team last month."

That means CBS and MSNBC both knew the language that was going out, and both knew the language complied with (Imus') contract. ... It was consistent with many of the things he had done," Garbus said.

CBS Radio owns Imus' former home radio station, WFAN-AM, and MSNBC simulcast the program on cable television.
