Though they have withdrawn the racist newsletter photo mocking Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama and have been rebuked by state Republican officials, they still refuse to acknowledge that the ad or worse their intent was racist. They called the depiction of Obama eating watermelon, fried chicken, and ribs as “innocent.”
“Racist depictions and stereotypes are never innocent,” said Hutchinson, “Whether it’s a presidential candidate or any African-American they demean and degrade. McCain and GOP leaders should call for their resignation.”
Copies of a Letter to John McCain urging him to call for the Republican group leader’s resignation will be released to the press at the briefing.
