Commander-In-Chief Giving Lots of Love To Black Bloggers

President Obama stopped by a "black online summit" at the White House Monday as part of an outreach to African American journalists and bloggers before the midterm elections, an effort that includes the Democratic National Committee spending what it calls an unprecedented $3 million to reach the most loyal part of Obama's base, African American voters.

"I thought the meeting was great in that it showed that President Obama and his administration are taking black new media and our growing influence seriously," David A. Wilson, managing editor of theGrio.com, told Journal-isms via e-mail.

"They outlined how the administration's policies have had a positive effect on the African-American community and they invited us to make suggestions on how they could work better with us and provide us with more access to the White House.

Michael Jackson Earned More This Past Year Than Any Living Celebrity Except Guess Who?

Over the past year Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Madonna and Jay-Z each each earned more than $50 million. But Michael Jackson earned more than all four--combined.

Thriller To Become A Movie

The King of Pop, who died in June 2009, made an astonishing $275 million in the past 12 months, putting him -- by a wide margin -- atop the Forbes list of top-earning dead celebrities. Jackson's take was in no small part because of the more than $250 million worldwide box-office haul of the Sony film This Is it. Check out the one celebrity who still banks more than the music legend.

Never Heard of TuneCore? Then You Need To Step Your Music Game UP!

Less than five years after Price launched it, TuneCore has become the world's largest distributor of music, as measured by its volume of releases. The New York-based company pumps out 15,000 to 30,000 new songs each week, more than most major record labels release in a year. And it achieves that without scouting and signing artists, operating a recording studio or cranking up the marketing and promotion machine typically part of a traditional recorded music label.

Established musicians such as Jay-Z, Trent Reznor and Aretha Franklin use TuneCore's services, as well as lesser known artists such as Dave Days and Liam Sullivan.

The story of how TuneCore became a key part of the digital music ecosystem parallels the rise of the digital music business, once the shock of widespread piracy began to wear off and executives began to question every assumption they had about the industry.

Technology Impacts The Diaspora In Unimaginable Ways

Ask web entrepreneur Stefan Magdalinski why he moved from London to Cape Town two years ago, and he points to a map that illustrates the technological revolution reshaping Africa.

The map shows the 14 undersea fibre-optic cables that will link the continent's Internet service providers to the servers of Europe and Asia by mid-2012, increasing the capacity of its cable Internet connections almost three-fold from today and nearly 300-fold from 2009.

The cables are drawn in different colours and in thicknesses that represent their capacity -- from the thin gray line showing the 120-gigabit cable that was Africa's only fibre optic link in January 2009, to the broad orange swath showing a 5,120-gigabit cable set to launch in 2012.

Time To Get Out Of That Unemployment Line

Wake up, job seekers. Sixty percent of you aren’t using social media in your quest to land a position, according to MicroTrain, a professional training and job services company. That means the 40 percent of job hunters who are using social media—sites like LinkedIn and Twitter—hold a decided advantage over their behind-the-times counterparts. As James Ellis, director of professional services at MicroTrain, pointed out, many job postings on Twitter and LinkedIn never appear anywhere else.

JOBS IN SOCIAL MEDIA

Social media specialist and author Dan Schwabel noted recently that the old approach to finding a job—“developing a resume and cover letter, locating jobs on and submitting your resume to corporate sites and job banks, and crossing your fingers in hopes of receiving a call from a hiring manager—is, for the most part, a thing of the past.”

Jesse Jackson Uses the "N" Word in Mic Gaff Aimed at Obama

The mystery has been cleared up about what else Jesse Jackson said last week when he made his crude remarks about Barack Obama.

The previously unreported comment, disclosed Wednesday morning by the TVNewser blog, was:

“Barack ... he’s talking down to black people ... telling [black people] how to behave.” Only Jackson used the plural form of the “n-word,” not “black people,” in the second part of his comment.

SHOCKING!!! Jesse Jackson Wants To Castrate Barack Obama!

REV. JESSE JACKSON SLAMS OBAMA, WANTS TO 'CUT HIS N**S OUT'... APOLOGIZES FOR 'CRUDE AND HURTFUL COMMENTS' CAUGHT ON TAPE...

CHECK OUT THE TAPE IN ITS ENTIRETY, AFTER THE JUMP...

Jackson Statement: For any harm or hurt that this hot mic private conversation may have caused, I apologize.

My support for Senator Obama's campaign is wide, deep and unequivocal. I cherish this redemptive and historical moment.

My appeal was for the moral content of his message to not only deal with the personal and moral responsibility of black males, but to deal with the collective moral responsibility of government and the public policy which would be a corrective action for the lack of good choices that often led to their irresponsibility.

That was the context of my private conversation and it does not reflect any disparagement on my part for the historic event in which we are involved or my pride in Senator Barack Obama, who is leading it, whom I have supported by crisscrossing this nation in every level of media and audience from the beginning in absolute terms.

JACKSON AND SHARPTON STILL SPEAKING FOR BLACK AMERICA: THE JENA SIX

JENA, La. -- Rev. Al Sharpton will speak in support of six black students, some of whom are still facing attempted murder charges in connection with the beating of a white school mate. Sharpton is scheduled to speak at the Trout Creek Baptist Church in Jena Sunday.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson, calling the charges against the six black teens known as the "Jena Six" "disgraceful" said he was coming to Jena to spread a message of "reconciliation rather than retaliation." A date for Jackson's visit has not been set.

Robert Bailey Jr., Mychal Bell, Carwin Jones, Bryant Purvis, Theo Shaw and an unnamed juvenile were charged in December with attempted second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit the same after a Dec. 4 attack that left white student Justin Barker unconscious and in need of medical attention.

Alexandria defense attorney Mike Small said the widespread attention generated by the cases should have a positive affect. "That's not to say that the sentence should be driven by publicity, but only that the extensive interest in the cases underscores the need for a sentence which reasonable people can view as just and fair."

Jackson, who said he still isn't sure when he will visit Jena, said he has talked to members of the U.S. Congress about having a congressional hearing about the cases.

"There must be some admission by the leaders of the system that these charges against these boys are onerous and exaggerated. (The defendants) face being in jail for the rest of their natural lives.

In order to have healing, there must be a basic commitment to fairness and justice to man. This is so un-American the charges and the punishment," he said.

JESSE JACKSON DOESN'T MIND THE SPOTLIGHT, UMMM... WE MEAN GETTING ARRESTED -- FOR THE CAUSE!

(AP) CHICAGO — Reverend Jesse Jackson was arrested Saturday at a demonstration outside a south suburban gun shop.

According to Fox News, he was charged with one count of criminal trespass to property.

The 65 year-old leader of the Rainbow Push Coalition was arrested when he refused to move away from the entrance to Chuck's Gun Shop in Riverdale, police said.

Just out of curiousity, how old is the little girl Jesse fathered out of wedlock while still married to his wife? Did she send him a Father's Day card? We know, one story at a time!

Jackson has protested with other community activists outside the shop in recent weeks after a 16-year-old honor student was gunned down on a city bus.

Police said the shooting was gang-related but the teen was not the intended target.

Jackson, who says the gun shop's proximity to Chicago provides gang members and criminals easy access to firearms, has used the protests to call for stricter gun laws.

Two teens have been charged as adults with taking part in the May shooting of Blair Holt, an honor student at Julian High School.
