1st Time Marathon Runner Markos Geneti From Ethiopa Battles Rain, Makes History at 2011 LA Marathon

Fellow Ethiopian Buzunesh Deba Takes Top Spot For Women

Rookie marathoner Markos Geneti took advantage of cold and wet conditions to win the 2011 Los Angeles Marathon, shattering the course record by crossing the finish line at 2 hours, 6 minutes and 35 seconds.

Born in Ethiopa, this was the 26-year-old's first competitive run. Although Geneti wasn't used to racing in the rain and had a pain in his stomach, it didn't stop him from recording the best time in event history.

Confounding marathon commentators with a blistering pace throughout the entire 26.2 mile race, the so-called media experts opined that the course from Dodger Stadium to the Santa Monica Pier could not generate such a fast time.

Geneti nevertheless finished 2:51 ahead of second place Nicolas Kamakya of Kenya -- the second largest margin of victory in marathon history -- and 6:37 ahead of third place Laban Moiben of Kenya. When the sinewy black man plowed through shin-deep puddles to break the race record by almost two minutes, he actually surprised himself.

"I was hoping to run 2:07:30," he said, through an interpreter. "But I ran a minute faster."

Geneti not only triumphed, he crossed the finish line with the second-fastest time in the world this year and the fastest time in California history. "My muscles are a little sore," he said.

It's only a matter of time before the endorsements start coming and he becomes a household name.

The women's division was captured by Buzunesh Deba, 23, who landed in the top spot with a time of 2:26:35. Also hailing from Ethiopia, Deba has been making quite a name for herself as she continues to rack up impressive victories. This marks her seventh marathon win in the nine races she has entered.

The male and female winners each won $25,000 and a 2011 Honda Insight. Geneti also won $100,000 for being the first runner -- male or female -- to cross the finish line. The women were given a head start of 17:03 to even the field.

Smiling broadly, Geneti said he plans to invest his earnings in a school in Addis Adaba. "If I train better," he said. "I can improve."

Sure Baller Athletes Are Going Broke, But Why Are People So Happy About It?

The Hateration Nation

From President Obama to the white hot Betty White, the entire world waits with baited breadth over superstar Lebron James' decision to stay with the Cleveland Cavaliers or go somewhere else like, say New York or Chicago.

While we could be looking at the first billionaire basketball player, most of these guys will end up looking like idiots when it's time to hang it up and retire.

The stats and Miss Betty, after the jump.

Almost 80 percent of National Football League players are flirting with bankruptcy two years after they retire, according to Sports Illustrated. NBA players aren’t faring much better. 60 percent of former National Basketball Association players end up broke within five years of retirement. Athletes squander millions of dollars due to bad decisions, lavish spending and poor financial planning.

Here's an article that details why so many African Americans are unfazed about many of these guys hitting rock bottom after the rise.

By Ricardo Hazell

This fact has been peppered throughout the media as of late with the trials and tribulations of these one-time millionaires: Kenny Anderson, Antoine Walker, Latrell Sprewell, Derrick Coleman and Scottie Pippen.

Each of the aforementioned players were dominant at one point, commanded double-teams and All-Star accolades, and were given long term contracts worth tens of millions of dollars. And, sadly, each of them is a black man who came from humble beginnings and has returned to those “roots” all too unceremoniously.

Not that any of this matters to NBA fans who all have something to say.

This subject matter may be something to grin and smile about for some who are reading this article. But prior to the modern predominance of the phenomenon of the “Hateration Nation” in which we currently live … black athletes were looked up to, idolized and seen as something to aspire to.

We looked to take some of their attributes and embed them in ourselves. We wanted to be tenacious; never quite play (or work) injured; show leadership skills and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

Today athletes are looked up to, to a point, but what we’re really waiting for is the calamitous fall. We’re looking for him/her to go broke so we can feel better about our miserable little lives.

So now you no longer have to speak negatively about the millionaire black man – with the white wife, who used to date your sister or who you used to be better than in high school or who you beat up in high school – making it out the hood.

Why is that you ask? Because he’ll be back any day now and you can feel better about your measly little ant-like existence.

But for me it’s a little bit sad, not depressing, but sad. I always believed the more black millionaires there were, then the better off black people were in general. From a pseudo Black Nationalist perspective that may be true, but in reality it matters very little to the common man. Prior to president Obama’s election black athletes were what many in the community admired and aspired to be.

Admittedly, I am also vulnerable to the effects of the Hateration Nation, but this line of thinking is in part due to me succumbing to stereotypical ideas of the black athlete and the visceral poison aimed at black athletes from the black community in many instances. Growing up in a subtle racist society, in a community that secretly hates itself, means one has to constantly un-brainwash oneself.

So, I decided to do some research and found some not too surprising facts that say not only are black athletes going broke, but athletes of all races and creeds.

But when black athletes go broke it is highly publicized. Here’s a Sports Illustrated article that listed the myriad of ways athletes lose money.

It’s one thing to invest in a criminal scheme, but athletes are losing money on legal ventures like hot-cakes at a lumberjack convention. In May 2007 former quarterbacks Drew Bledsoe and Rick Mirer and five other NFL retirees invested at least $100,000 apiece in a now-defunct start-up called Pay By Touch-which touted “biometric authentication” technology that would help replace credit cards with fingerprints-even as the company was wracked by lawsuits and internal dissent.

There’s also the phenomenon in which people portray themselves in a false light to gain an athlete’s trust. Luigi DiFonzo — a former felon who claimed he was an Italian count defrauded players such as Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson before committing suicide in August 2000; William (Tank) Black, a disgraced agent who built a pyramid scheme that took a total of about $15 million from at least a dozen players, including Patriots running back Fred Taylor; Kirk Wright, a hedge fund manager, was convicted on 47 counts of fraud and money laundering in a scheme involving more than $150 million.

His client list included at least eight NFL players. Wright committed suicide in prison.

An article in the New York Times ran down some reasons why there is such a high divorce rate among athletes in general and NFL players in particular. Athletes are seen as walking dollar signs and are seen as marks more often than not.

The article mentions the reasons why NFL and other pro sports marriages fail: “rampant infidelity, women who target athletes, trophy wives, lifestyles not conducive to marriage and players being surrounded by entourages, which can discourage intimacy.”

In 1994, when NBA center Dikembe Mutombo was engaged to Michelle Roberts, a med student, Roberts refused to sign a premarital contract the day before the wedding. Five hundred guests-including a large party from Mutombo’s native Democratic Republic of Congo-had begun flying in to Washington. “[Roberts] never signed,” David Falk (his agent) says, “and Mutombo never married the girl.” Calling off the nuptials reportedly cost him $250,000. But it was better to pay a little then than a lot later on.

Everybody thinks they’re smarter than they actually are. Except for Magic Johnson, he knew he was smarter than everyone thought he was. The success of his businesses is a testament to that. But pro-athletes who run their own business are rarely successful.

Saints all-time leading rusher Deuce McAllister, who filed for bankruptcy protection for the Jackson, Miss., car dealership he owns and Panthers receiver Muhsin Muhammad, who put his Charlotte mansion on eBay a month after news broke that his entertainment company was being sued by Wachovia Bank for overdue credit-card payments.

Former MLB All-Star Lenny Dykstra had been sleeping in his car after his magazine, Players Club, failed and he reportedly owes creditors between $10 to 50 million.

The aforementioned financial pains pro athletes encounter are racially neutral, but brothers’ seem to have the market corner on senseless stupidity: Michael Vick, dog-fighting, New York Giant Plaxico Burress, accidentally shooting himself at a New York City nightclub last November — right after signing a five-year, $35 million contract. NFL first-round pick Adam “Pacman” Jones has twice been suspended by the NFL for off-field incidents.

Jones had signed a four-year contract with the Cowboys worth $13.3 million and is currently looking for work. And oh yeah, he’s not black, but we’ve gotta mention Olympic swimming champion Michael Phelps who was caught smoking a bong; he lost his Kellogg’s endorsement deal, as well as financial support from USA swimming.

Imagine walking in the dark minding your own business when, suddenly, a huge spotlight swung your way illuminating all of your financial and personal affairs like runner Marion Jones?

Would you be able to handle that? Of course no one in the “Hateration Nation” will show any love or understand to a recently broke athlete, especially not a black athlete. Most people believe it’s the fast cars, big mansions and mink coats that are breaking these men.

No, it’s the hangers on, the leeches, and their own egos that’s causing their lucrative fortunes to disappear and, much to the chagrin of the haters, the list of those going broke is divided evenly along racial lines.

Designs To Infinity CEO Lore Ross Adds Personalized Sports Quilts To Her Collection

Don't throw away your kids' old sports shirts and game jerseys! Even they are capable of having a second life. Don't believe us? Take a look!

Here's a great way to capture those memories and give them functionality!

Handbag company Designs To Infinity created this one of a kind, handmade quilt for a young man who has played sports his entire childhood, and is now heading to college to continue to play sports.

It was done for a mom of three very active boys who wanted to create a keepsake for her oldest who has played sports for most of his life, and is now heading off to college to play baseball.

She presented the quilt to him at a graduation party she gave him a few weeks ago, where she invited family and friends.

Unlike the traditional wall hanging quilt, this was made to be used! After the individual jerseys were cut out and sewn together, the quilt was backed with a soft microfleece fabric.

It's now a comfortable "guy" blanket for taking to the park, the beach, or to put on your bed!

Former Black Olympic Track Star Tim Montgomery Gets 5 Years In Prison For Pushing Heroin

First Marion Jones, Now Her Baby's Daddy

Disgraced former Olympic track star Tim Montgomery, once dubbed "the world's fastest man," was sentenced Friday in Norfolk, VA to five years in prison for dealing heroin to an informant.

"I was blind — I never had a job in my life," Montgomery told U.S. District Judge Jerome B. Friedman. "I did the wrong thing."

Montgomery, 33, will serve the five-year sentence after he completes a 46-month prison term for an unrelated conviction in New York.

Under an agreement with the government, he pleaded guilty in July to possession and distribution of more than 100 grams of heroin. He received the minimum term under federal sentencing guidelines.

A prosecutor described Montgomery's athletic skills as "super-human," but said he had squandered his talent and the acclaim and the money that came with it. Montgomery won an Olympic gold medal in the 400-meter relay at the 2000 games and a silver in the same event four years earlier. A doping scandal wiped his achievements from the books.

In a nearly empty courtroom, Montgomery accepted his sentence accompanied only by his lawyer, James Broccoletti. His parents and siblings traveled in a van from South Carolina for the sentencing, but did not arrive before the 20-minute hearing ended, Broccoletti said.

"What we find here is someone who has wrecked his life," the prosecutor, Eric M. Hurt, told the court.

He noted that Montgomery's heroin arrest came as he awaited sentencing on a check-kiting scheme that ultimately sent him to prison.

"He has chosen to ignore every benefit given to him," Hurt said.

Montgomery, hands clasped behind his back, softly addressed Friedman.

"I just want to say I've very sorry for what I've done," he told the judge. "I'm sorry to my community and my family."

Friedman ordered five years of supervised release and drug testing after Montgomery serves his heroin sentence. He also called Montgomery "totally irresponsible" for fathering four children with four different women, including fellow disgraced Olympian Marion Jones.

Montgomery's heroin prosecution is based on four drug sales he made in 2007 and 2008 in Norfolk and Virginia Beach. A Drug Enforcement Agency informant made buys that were either electronically videotaped, tape-recorded or witnessed by agents, according to court records.

Montgomery's Olympic medals and his world-record 9.78-second performance in the 100-meter dash were wiped clean after he was linked to the investigation of BALCO, the West Coast lab at the center of the steroid scandal in sports. He also was banned from track for two years.

While he never tested positive for drugs, he retired in December 2005 after the ban was imposed.

Last year, he admitted helping his former coach, Olympic champion Steve Riddick, and others cash $1.7 million in stolen and counterfeit checks.

Riddick is serving a five-year prison term. Montgomery's former companion, Jones, served a six-month prison sentence for lying to investigators about the check-fraud scam and using steroids. AP

Serena Injures Knee And Quits Semi-Finals, Is She Possibly Out For Beijing Olympics???

Top-seeded Serena Williams injured her left knee and pulled out of the Bank of the West Classic on Saturday, becoming the third singles player on the U.S. Olympic women's tennis team with a knee injury.

She retired while trailing during the second set of her semifinal match against qualifier Aleksandra Wozniak.

Williams' sister Venus and Lindsay Davenport, the other U.S. Olympic singles players, have already pulled out of next week's East West Bank Classic in Carson, Calif., with right knee injuries.

Serena Williams struggled from the start against the 85th-ranked Wozniak and first called for the trainer when trailing 5-2 in the first set. She got the knee heavily taped by the trainer and came out to finish the set, but appeared to struggle to plant on her injured leg.

Wozniak held serve to win the set and won 11 straight points to take a 3-1 lead early in the second. Williams appeared to injure the knee further while stretching for a backhand in the fifth game of the set and retired. She walked off the court and embraced her father, Richard.

Williams underwent surgery on her left knee in 2003 and missed 10 tournaments in 2006 with another injury to the knee. The extent of this injury was not immediately known.

Wozniak will play in Sunday's final against the winner of the night semifinal between sixth-seeded Marion Bartoli and Ai Sugiyama.

Out Of Shawn Kemp's Eight Kids By Six Women, Junior Starts Coming Into His Own

Former Sonics superstar Shawn Kemp has only had sporadic communication with his 17 year old son Shawn Jr., a top-ranked recruit with offers from Alabama, Cincy, Georgia and Ole Miss.

Realizing it's time to man-up (or get a piece of the action should his seed goes pro) Shawn Sr. has invited his son to work out with him in Houston this summer.

Kemp Jr. has the nose, the ears, and the forehead of his father, but junior's overall mien is friendlier. He is 6-foot-9. Raised by his mother, Genay Doyal, in Marietta, Ga, he has a four-star rating from Rivals.com, and is ranked 83rd overall in the class of 2009.

While he is not the Shawn Kemp of Supersonics fame and paternal infamy, he is Shawn Kemp Jr., the eldest child of the former NBA forward, and one of at least eight kids -- with at least six different mothers -- fathered by the elder Kemp. Out of the Reign Man's scattered DNA has grown another power forward who has played his way onto the national recruiting radar.

With scholarship offers coming all over the place, in the winter of 2009 he'll likely make his college debut. And in his first televised playing time, the network will surely show flashbacks of the first Shawn Kemp. "Some people say I play like my dad," Kemp Jr. said. "I do what I do, but I'm trying to be my own person, too."

Unlike his father -- who was kicked out of Kentucky in 1988 before playing a game, but was still taken in the first round of the 1989 NBA draft by Seattle -- Junior is not yet forecasted as a major pro prospect.

Kemp has too much of everyone's favorite recruiting buzzword -- "upside" -- to be ignored, though. That begins with his growth potential. Junior's feet, size 19 already, come with a 7-1 wingspan. Kemp said doctors have told him he should become a 7-footer by the age of 21.

With limited exposure to the game, Kemp Jr. didn't start playing hoops competitively until the eighth grade, but has quickly developed into a dunking force.

Goyal, who grew up in Bellevue, Wash., said she met Kemp's dad in 1989, just weeks after he had arrived in Seattle as a 19-year-old NBA rookie. Although they never married, they jointly decided to name the boy Shawn Kemp Jr.

They would regularly attend Sonics games for the first few years of his life, and "while he was somewhat conscious of it," Doyal said, "I don't think it really kicked in for [Shawn Jr.] that he had a famous father." Story continues...

Seeking To Rebuild His Life And Career, Michael Vick Files Bankruptcy

Imprisoned NFL baller Michael Vick filed for bankruptcy protection while serving time for federal dogfighting charges, saying he owes between $10 million and $50 million to creditors.

The African American quaterback filed Chapter 11 papers in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Newport News on Monday. The seven largest creditors listed in the court papers are owed a total of about $12.8 million.

The debt includes part of a signing bonus that the Falcons are seeking to recover.

After the plea on dogfighting charges, the Falcons tried to recover about $20 million in bonuses Vick earned from 2004 to 2007. But a federal judge held that Vick is entitled to keep all but $3.75 million of the money paid to him for playing football through the 2014 season.

According to the filings, Vick's other debts include $4.5 million owed to Richmond-based Joel Enterprises Inc., and $550,0000 owed to Radtke Sports Inc. for breach of contract.

Vick is serving a 23-month prison sentence at the U.S. Penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kan., after pleading guilty last year to bankrolling a dogfighting ring. The Atlanta Falcons superstar was subsequently suspended indefinitely without pay and lost all his major sponsors, including Nike. He also faces state charges related to dogfighting.

In May, a federal judge ordered Vick to repay about $2.5 million to a Canadian bank for defaulting on a loan. The Royal Bank of Canada had sued Vick in September, arguing his guilty plea to a federal dogfighting charge — and the resulting impact on his career — prevented him from repaying the loan.

A default judgment for $1.08 million also was entered in January against Vick and a business partner in a lawsuit brought by Wachovia Bank over a loan for an Atlanta-area wine shop and restaurant. (AP)

Shaq's Payback Video Disses Kobe For Breaking Up O'Neal Marriage

Is Shaquille O'Neal seriously trashing Kobe Bryant in the now famous rap video, or is it just fun and games?

Everyone talking about it. But the question is: Is this playful Shaq who's making a life commentary like Wil Smith's infamous "Parents Just Don't Understand". Is this a restart of the hate that fueled the East coast/West coast fude and deaths of rappers Tupoc Shakur and Biggie Smalls?

I say it is Shaq finally coming out against Kobe for being a snitch and ruining his marriage to Shaunie. Take a listen and you decide. Sports reporter Steven A Smith is on the phone and softens the video's meaning, but what is very clear is that Shaq finally lays blame for his martial problems on Kobe.

You see, it was Kobe who when arrested in Colorado for molestation, told Colorado Police that "He shouldn't be arrested, because Shaq was always abusing women and then paying them off with cars and expensive gifts." The Colorado investigators promptly got on a plane, flew to Los Angeles, and came to Shaq's home to ask he (and his wife Shaunie) if the sex and shut up gifts were true. Now Shaunie is no fool she knows her man.

But at this point she was made a fool in public. When Shaunie heard of these expensive gifts for bimbos, she started squirrelling her own money away in secret investments and bank accounts. Come on ladies we know she was wrong... but we understand. What's a girl to do? Shaq found out about the Shaunie's secret stashes and the rest is to be divorce court history.

Evander Holyfield Broke? Has The Talented Boxer And Father Of Nine Bitten Off More Than He Can Chew???

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting that the mother of Evander Holyfield's 10-year-old son — one of nine children he's fathered — says the boxing icon has missed two child-support payments, filing a petition for contempt in the Fayette County Superior Court.

Having made over 200 million in fights and endorsements, has this black man suddenly found himself in financial straits?

Toi Irvin, who lives in Clayton County, said she was told by Holyfield's representatives not to expect the payments — $6,000 total — for May and June."It wasn't so much that he didn't pay," said Irvin's attorney, Randy Kessler. "She was told they didn't know if she would be paid at all."

The former heavyweight champion and popular "Dancing With The Stars" contestant appears to be in serious financial trouble. Is he looking for maybe a little "Respect":

Holy's palatial estate in Fayette County is under foreclosure, according to a legal notice that appeared in a local newspaper, and is set to be auctioned by Washington Mutual Bank on July 1. The home is worth an estimated $10 million. Source

Did The Makeup Make Him Do It???

Sidebar: The Real Issue Is His Addictions

Crossdresser and former Chicago Bulls badboy Dennis Rodman has been charged with spousal abuse, brandishing a deadly weapon and trying to dissuade a witness in connection with a domestic violence incident involving his girlfriend at a Century City hotel in April.

"His girlfriend of four years sustained visible physical injuries," said Nick Velasquez, the city attorney's spokesman.

A one-time Los Angeles Laker, Detroit Piston and Bulls rebounder, Rodman must appear in court May 22 even though the three charges are misdemeanors because he is a defendant in a domestic violence case. Expect to have the court impose a restraining order as a condition of remaining out on bail. If convicted, he'll be required to attend a domestic violence course, pay a large fine, probation for at least 3 years, and prohibition from gun possession for years to come. We won't even talk about jail time, which you can be sure prosecutors will be demanding!

Having worked with these types of cases, the real issue here is addiction, most likely drugs and alcohol, but I would not rule out sex addiction as well!

The incident took place April 30 at the Intercontinental Hotel, where police arrested the 47-year-old African American baller at about 10:15 p.m. Officers said Rodman hit a woman who sustained injuries to her arms.

Ladies KRAVE Will Demps!

Football Sexy Together In One Package?

Tennessee Titans Agree to Trade Pacman Jones, Aka Triffling Thug Baller, To Dallas Cowboys

Remember back in the day when The Dallas Cowboys was America's favorite football team. I remember my buddy back at Morehouse, Kevin Bass, was so obsessed he had cowboy paraphanelia everywhere, worshipped the Cowboy Cheerleaders, and would ignore the books, turn down being with his girl (you know what I'm saying) and kick his boys to the curb if in any way it meant missing Dallas playing.

So when I see that the team agreed in principle to acquire suspended cornerback Pacman Jones from the Tennessee Titans, all I could think was oh, how the mighty have fallen.

Jones, 24, received a 16-game ban last April for conduct detrimental to the league after his fifth arrest in less than 2 years.

In December, he pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of disorderly conduct after being ejected in February 2007 from a Las Vegas strip club shortly before a triple shooting that left an employee paralyzed.

He's expected to meet with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell before training camp to determine whether he can return to the league.

Jones, the sixth pick in the 2005 draft, totaled four interceptions for Tennessee during his first two NFL seasons, returning one for a touchdown. He also had four punt returns for scores.

The Cowboys will send Tennessee a fourth-round pick in this week's National Football League draft, ESPN.com said, without saying where it got the information. The Titans could receive an additional selection in 2009 if Jones is reinstated and plays a significant amount of time. If he doesn't get reinstated, the Titans would send an undisclosed pick back to Dallas in 2009. [Bloomberg]

Baltimore Ravens QB Steve McNair To Retire... But For How Long?

IT"S OVAH!!!

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Steve McNair will announce his retirement at a news conference at team headquarters this afternoon.

The news was reported on NFL Network and is on the Ravens' official web site.

The news comes as a surprise; the Baltimore Sun reported today that McNair is "hoping to keep his 13-year NFL career going after a turnover-marred, injury-filled 2007

But when have we seen this before? The NFL is a tough league and by the third preseason game there are usually three quarterback openings in the NFL. So don't worry Steve, stay on the bicycle and keep the weight tranning up because you are going to get a call. It is not a matter of if, but when.

Nod to Michael David Smith for breaking this story.

Former Baller Herschel Walker Is Crazy! No, Seriously!!!

Personality disorder threatened Walker's life

Herschel Walker, a University of Georgia football legend, successful businessman and father of one, said in his book "Breaking Free" and during an interview with ABC's "Nightline" that he nearly took his own life and the lives of others as he struggled with Dissociative Identity Disorder.

In the "Nightline" interview, the 46-year-old brotha talked about playing Russian roulette with a loaded gun at his kitchen table shortly after his retirement from football in 1998.

"To challenge death like I was doing, you start saying, there's a problem here," Walker said in the interview.

The interview coincides with the release of Walker's book, which chronicles Walker's lifelong struggle with DID and his therapy since being diagnosed in 2002. Since that time, Walker has worked with Dr. Jerry Mungadze to understand the disease, in which alternate personalities aid a person who is dealing with traumatic events.

In the prologue of Walker's book, he describes how a business deal over the delivery of a car so enraged him that he checked his glove box for his Beretta while driving to the meeting.

"The logical side of me knew that what I was thinking of doing to this man — murdering him for messing up my schedule — wasn't a viable alternative," Walker wrote. "But another side of me was so angry that all I could think was how satisfying it would feel to step out of the car, pull out the gun, slip off the safety and squeeze the trigger.

"It would be no different from sighting on targets I'd fired at for years — except for the visceral enjoyment I'd get from seeing the small entry wound and the spray of brain tissue and blood — like a Fourth of July fireworks — exploding behind him."

His former wife, Cindy Grossman, told ABC how Walker put a gun to her temple."There was somebody there that was evil," Grossman told ABC.

Walker started writing the book three years ago as a way to reach out to others with DID.
Before word started to leak about the impending publication of "Breaking Free," friends and family were unaware of Walker's diagnosis. And the diagnosis is somewhat controversial. Many in the psychiatric profession feel alternative personalities can be implemented by therapists as way to mask other feelings.

"My goal is to help bring freedom to the lives of those who have it and understanding to those who have never experienced it," Walker said.

Those who have DID have experienced a traumatic event or events in their lives, such as abuse. Walker makes it clear in his book that he was never physically, mentally or sexually abused as a child in his home. He was bullied at school and made fun of for a speech impediment and being overweight as a child. [AJC]

LA-LA'S MAN CARMELO ANTHONY GETS POPPED WITH A DUI!

Is This Another DWB? Nahhh!

NBA All-Star baller Carmelo Anthony was arrested early Monday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence, hours after his worst game of the season.

Police said the African American forward and baby daddy to MTV's La-La's little nugget was initially pulled over for weaving and failing to dim his lights.

After failing a series of sobriety tests, the brotha was ticketed and released at the scene. Denver police don't jail DUI suspects and Anthony was no exception, although how he got home remains a mysteryd.

Anthony is due in court May 14.

Mark Warkentien, the Nuggets' vice president of basketball operations, said the team was aware of the situation but declined comment.

Anthony apologized through his attorney, Dan Recht.

"Carmelo apologizes to his fans, the Denver community, his teammates and the Nuggets organization for the distraction this is causing them," Recht said.

He said Anthony consented to a blood test, but results won't be available for about two weeks.

In the meantime, "Carmelo will try to stay focused on his family and his team," Recht said.

The Nuggets are in the middle of a heated playoff race. They moved a-half game ahead of Golden State for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference on Sunday night when they beat Houston 111-94.

But it was Anthony's worst outing of the season. He was held to 11 points on 3-of-14 shooting against a Rockets team that was missing defensive specialist Shane Battier.

Anthony still managed to extend his NBA-best streak of double-digit games to 206.

On Saturday, he committed a flagrant foul against Utah's Deron Williams that changed he course of a close game, and the Jazz ran away with a 124-97 win.

The Nuggets did not practice on Monday and Anthony wasn't available. He's expected back on the court at practice on Tuesday.

The Nuggets (49-32) can clinch their fifth straight postseason berth by beating Memphis at home on Wednesday night or if the Warriors lose at Phoenix on Monday night or against Seattle on Wednesday night.

Despite his poor game Sunday, Anthony has had another stellar season. He was named an All-Star starter for the first time alongside teammate Allen Iverson, and he's fourth in the NBA in scoring (25.8) and is averaging a career-best 7.4 rebounds.

Last season, he was involved in a brawl at Madison Square Garden. After J.R. Smith was collared on his way to a breakaway bucket in the closing minutes of a rout, Anthony, then the league's leading scorer, dropped the New York Knicks' Mardy Collins with a punch that cost him a 15-game suspension.

In February, Anthony was ticketed in Arapahoe County for driving 25 mph over the posted speed limit. A hearing is set for next month in that speeding case. [Sports Illustrated]

Is The NFL Ready For The Return of Pacman Jones?

"I probably wont go back to a strip club for
at least two or three years..."

Adam "Pacman" Jones made this comment after his infamous "make it rain riot" in a Vegas strip club. Although we don't think this Black man quite gets it, Jones will seek reinstatement to the National Football League next week, according to Dallas-area newspapers.

The troubled Tennessee Titans cornerback and kick returner missed the 2007 season after commissioner Roger Goodell suspended him indefinitely following several run-ins with the law. Agent Manny Arora said Jones would seek reinstatement on Tuesday, according to the Dallas Morning News and The Star-Telegram in Fort Worth. Jones sought reinstatement last year, but was denied following a face-to-face meeting with Goodell.

Jones has said he wants to play for the Dallas Cowboys, but the Cowboys and Titans have yet to agree on a deal. Arora said it makes sense for Jones to learn his playing future next week, before the NFL draft, so that teams can decide whether they'd want to trade for him, according to the Star-Telegram.
