Black Sidekicks For Don Imus Step Up To Defend His Nappy ...

Troubled NFL baller Adam "Pacman" Jones was the subject. Sportscaster Warner Wolf was talking about how Jones had been suspended for a season and arrested six times. "What color is he?" asked Imus. "He's African-American," said Wolf. "Well, there you go," said Imus. "Now we know."

The point of the sarcastic joke, the tired, geriatric Imus said on the air, was that "they arrest black people in this country for no reason. That's all. And that's what people should be outraged about."

Critics said the joke was worded ambiguously, so it could have been taken to suggest blacks have inherent criminal tendencies. Aside from that, it's not funny!

Karith Foster, a comic herself and one of the show's two black co-hosts, strongly defended Imus and suggested the problem was the difficulty of conveying sarcastic humor."A lot people," she said, "don't get it."

On the air this morning, Imus bluntly labeled any charge of racism "nonsense. . . . I don't mind people looking at past stuff, but let's not get stupid."

While he did not address the question of ambiguity in the phrasing, that point was indirectly raised by one of this morning's guests, comedian Dick Gregory.

Gregory said he doesn't personally think Imus is racist and that he took the Pacman comment to be "about racial profiling." He added, however, "You know what you meant. But a lot of people won't give you the benefit of the doubt - and they shouldn't."

Imus was defended strongly by his on-air team, with Foster saying, "I wouldn't be here if you hadn't kept your pledge" to make the show an ongoing racial dialogue.

Tony Powell, the other black co-host, said the media should pay more attention to the number of black guests who have talked with racial issues with Imus since he returned to the air in December.

Wolf, who played straight man in the Jones exchange, said, "People are trying to make something out of nothing. Anybody who listens knows that's a joke you make all the time."

Foster noted that when she left "The View," Imus immediately joked that it must be racism.

WABC managers had indicated they talked with Imus on Monday about the Jones comment and didn't expect any disciplinary action - though the scope of public reaction can sometimes affect that decision. Source

Tennessee Titans Agree to Trade Pacman Jones, Aka Triffling Thug Baller, To Dallas Cowboys

Remember back in the day when The Dallas Cowboys was America's favorite football team. I remember my buddy back at Morehouse, Kevin Bass, was so obsessed he had cowboy paraphanelia everywhere, worshipped the Cowboy Cheerleaders, and would ignore the books, turn down being with his girl (you know what I'm saying) and kick his boys to the curb if in any way it meant missing Dallas playing.

So when I see that the team agreed in principle to acquire suspended cornerback Pacman Jones from the Tennessee Titans, all I could think was oh, how the mighty have fallen.

Jones, 24, received a 16-game ban last April for conduct detrimental to the league after his fifth arrest in less than 2 years.

In December, he pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of disorderly conduct after being ejected in February 2007 from a Las Vegas strip club shortly before a triple shooting that left an employee paralyzed.

He's expected to meet with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell before training camp to determine whether he can return to the league.

Jones, the sixth pick in the 2005 draft, totaled four interceptions for Tennessee during his first two NFL seasons, returning one for a touchdown. He also had four punt returns for scores.

The Cowboys will send Tennessee a fourth-round pick in this week's National Football League draft, ESPN.com said, without saying where it got the information. The Titans could receive an additional selection in 2009 if Jones is reinstated and plays a significant amount of time. If he doesn't get reinstated, the Titans would send an undisclosed pick back to Dallas in 2009. [Bloomberg]

Is The NFL Ready For The Return of Pacman Jones?

"I probably wont go back to a strip club for
at least two or three years..."

Adam "Pacman" Jones made this comment after his infamous "make it rain riot" in a Vegas strip club. Although we don't think this Black man quite gets it, Jones will seek reinstatement to the National Football League next week, according to Dallas-area newspapers.

The troubled Tennessee Titans cornerback and kick returner missed the 2007 season after commissioner Roger Goodell suspended him indefinitely following several run-ins with the law. Agent Manny Arora said Jones would seek reinstatement on Tuesday, according to the Dallas Morning News and The Star-Telegram in Fort Worth. Jones sought reinstatement last year, but was denied following a face-to-face meeting with Goodell.

Jones has said he wants to play for the Dallas Cowboys, but the Cowboys and Titans have yet to agree on a deal. Arora said it makes sense for Jones to learn his playing future next week, before the NFL draft, so that teams can decide whether they'd want to trade for him, according to the Star-Telegram.

Black Woman Accuses Suspended NFL Baller Pacman Jones of Sucker Punch

Black NFL cornerback Pacman Jones has gotten backed into more legal drama, this time with a African-American Nashville sista claiming that Jones punched her at an Atlanta strip club.

Attorney Wanda S. Jackson wants Jones arrested for "sucker punching" her in the Body Tap Strip Club's office. No, Jackson was not a performer. TMZ is claiming that when Jones came in to complain about his money and a bracelet being stolen, she got tagged after homegirl followed him out the office.

Currently serving a one-year suspension, this is brother Jones' seventh arrest since being drafted by the Tennessee Titans in 2005. Somebody holla at your cousin and tell him to stop acting the plum fool.

Jesus Take The Wheel: Marion Jones Must Give-Up The Medals, Come Off Some Cash, And See An Orthodontist Immediately!

Marion We're Pissed At You, Let's Hug It Out

Broke and humiliated, Marion Jones can longer even take solace in seeing her name beside her greatest feats in the record books. The International Association of Athletics Federation on Friday annulled all of the Black track star's results dating to September 2000, including her Olympic and world championship titles, because of admitted doping from illegal steroid use.

What's more, track and field's governing body also wants Jones to pay back about $700,000 of the sistahs winnings during that period. Talk about piling on, isn't it bad enough that her career is ovah and a prison sentence is still looming? Of course the final nail in the coffin is that the organization has also recommended that Jones' relay teammates be disqualified and lose their medals from the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Is America Being Harder On High Profile Black Sports Figures?

For African American superstar athletes, this has not been a banner year. Michael Vick's dog case, Barry Bond's alleged perjury, the Isiah Thomas' sexual harassment verdict, Mike Tyson doing time in pink, Shaq's pending divorce, Adam "Pacman' Jones five arrests in two years, and of course everyone's favorite murderer, O.J. Simpson. We hate it when Black folks gloss over our issues and play victim in situations where we're just plain wrong. But since we keep it real here, let's just say that these stories have definitely spoiled our appetite for those Thanksgiving leftovers.
