O.J. GUILTY OF KIDNAPPING, ARMED ROBBERY & 10 OTHER CHARGES

Vegas Jury Juices Orenthal James

He's the Black man who went from iconic American sports superstar to celebrity-in-exile after being acquitted of murdering his ex-wife and a friend.

That all changed late Friday night when O.J. Simpson was convicted of robbing two sports-memorabilia dealers at gunpoint in a Las Vegas hotel room. The 61-year-old former baller could spend the rest of his life in prison after he is sentenced Dec. 5.

A weary and somber Simpson released a heavy sigh as the charges were read in rapid fire by the clerk in Clark County District Court. He was immediately taken into custody.

The Hall of Fame football star was found guilty of kidnapping, armed robbery and 10 other charges for gathering up five men a year ago and storming into a room at hotel-casino, where the group seized several game balls, plaques and photos. Prosecutors said two of the men with him were armed; one of them said he brought a gun at Simpson's request.

Simpson's co-defendant, Clarence "C.J." Stewart, 54, also was found guilty on all charges and taken into custody.

Simpson showed little emotion as officers handcuffed him and walked him out of the courtroom.

His sister, Carmelita Durio, sobbed behind him in the arms of Simpson's friend, Tom Scotto. As spectators left the courtroom, Durio collapsed and paramedics were called, according to court spokesman Michael Sommermeyer.

The jurors made no eye contact with the defendants as the entered and each of them answered firmly when asked if "this was their individual verdict."

Judge Jackie Glass made no comment other than to thank the jury for its service and to deny motions for the defendants to be released on bail.

She refused to give the lawyers extended time to file a motion for new trial, which under Nevada law must be filed within seven days.

The attorneys said they needed time to submit a voluminous record, but she rejected that.

"I've sat through the trial," Glass said. "If you want a motion for new trial, send me something."

The verdict came 13 years after Simpson was cleared of murder in Los Angeles in one of the most sensational trials of the 20th century.

From the beginning, Simpson and lawyers argued the incident in Las Vegas was not a robbery; instead, they said, he was trying to reclaim mementos that had been stolen from him. He said he did not ask anyone to bring a gun and did not see any guns.

The defense portrayed Simpson as a victim of shady characters who wanted to make a buck off his famous name, and police officers who saw his arrest as an opportunity to "get" him and avenge his acquittal.

Prosecutors said Simpson's ownership of the memorabilia was irrelevant; it was still a crime to try to take things by force.

"When they went into that room and forced the victims to the far side of the room, pulling out guns and yelling, `Don't let anybody out of here!' — six very large people detaining these two victims in the room with the intent to take property through force or violence from them — that's kidnapping," prosecutor David Roger said.

Kidnapping is punishable by five years to life in prison. Armed robbery carries a mandatory sentence of at least two years behind bars, and could bring as much as 30 years.

Simpson, who now lives in Miami, did not testify, but was heard on a recording of the confrontation, screaming that the dealers had stolen his property.

"Don't let nobody out of this room," he declared and told the other men to scoop up his items, which included a photo of Simpson with former FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover.

Four other men initially charged in the case struck plea bargains that saved them from potential prison sentences in return for their testimony. Some of them had criminal records or were compromised in some way. One, for example, was an alleged pimp who testified he had a revelation from God telling him to take a plea bargain.

Memorabilia dealer Thomas Riccio, who arranged and secretly recorded the confrontation in the hotel room, said he netted $210,000 on the tapes from the media. He received immunity, and his recordings became the heart of the prosecution case.

Similarly, minutes after the Sept. 13, 2007, confrontation, one of the alleged victims, sports-memorabilia dealer Alfred Beardsley, was calling news outlets, and the other, Bruce Fromong, spoke of getting "big money" from the incident.

Simpson's past haunted the case. Las Vegas police officers were heard in the recordings chuckling over Simpson's misfortune and crowing that if Los Angeles couldn't "get" him, they would. And the judge told jurors they had to put aside Simpson's earlier case.

Simpson's lawyers also expressed fears during jury selection that people who believed he got away with murder a decade ago might see this case as a chance to right a wrong.

As a result, an usually large pool of 500 potential jurors was called, and they were given a 26-page questionnaire. Half were almost instantly eliminated after expressing strong feelings that he should have been convicted of murder.

In closing arguments, defense attorney Yale Galanter acknowledged that what Simpson did to recover his memorabilia was not right. "But being stupid, and being frustrated is not being a criminal," he said.

He added: "This case has taken on a life of its own because of Mr. Simpson's involvement. You know that. I know that. Every cooperator, every person who had a gun, every person who had an ulterior motive, every person who signed a book deal, every person who got paid money, the police, the district attorney's office, is only interested in one thing: Mr. Simpson."

OJ Simpson Jury Is Scandalously All White, In 2008 Justice Still Comes Late

OK, let me state for the record I'm not an OJ Simpson relative, friend or even supporter. I am though, relatively speaking, reasonably a friend of the down-trodden and disadvantage and I am a supporter of justice in all aspects of our life. So how in the hell in 2008, can OJ Simpson be going to trial in front of a jury of his "peers" and the whole jury is white??? Come on! I know a railroad job when I see it coming and I don't have to hear chuga-chuga, wooo wooo!

In the Nevada, Simpson and a group of associates allegedly stormed a room at the Palace Station Hotel-Casino, brandishing weapons, to retrieve memorabilia largely related to the former football star's sporting career that he has insisted was stolen from him.

Simpson has insisted he did not know that anyone had guns and said he never saw weapons. Four of the gang, including the two who carried firearms, have struck plea agreements with prosecutors for reduced prison sentences in exchange for their testimony against Simpson.

"If you are here thinking you are going to punish Mr. Simpson for what happened in Los Angeles in 1995 this is not the case for you," This is what judge Glass said Monday to the potential jurist. She went on to say, "I mean really, truly, folks,". "I'm not kidding around. Can you put that aside and understand that the case we are trying here and the info you're going to hear about here is totally separate from that case?"

Now all that sounds pretty empty to me, when you then say to me, in all of Las Vegas, our justice system can't find one Chinese, Japanese, Hispanic or African American to serve on this trial? Vegas is suppose to be a legal and fair gamblin' town but this jury game is fixed. Can you say change of venue? Anything?

Once again I'm not saying OJ was right or wrong in his actions. What I am saying, is that this jury selection is indicative of abuse and how unfair African Americans and people of color are treated under U.S. law. And that is the only reason we say, "Free O.J."

OJ Trial With No Johnnie Cochran...Can He Find Another Guardian Angel?

OJ and Johnnie Cochran In Better Times

Las Vegas--Invasion, Armed Robbery, Kidnapping... just some of the charges OJ is up on. Jury selection is this week and four of the other co-defendant are "flipping" on OJ and will testify against him. Is this the last go around before he's in the orange jumpsuit for ten to twenty years?

Attorney Johnnie has died and gone to heaven. Perhaps there is another angel out there, who needs to help someone to earn his wings. (re: The movie It's A Wonderful Life)

One White Woman Finally Puts The Squeeze On The Juice

Has OJ Simpson Met His Match???

"You're either arrogant, ignorant or both," snapped Nevada Judge Jackie Glass after doubling Orenthal's bail to $250,000 on Wednesday for violating terms of his original bail.

Welcome to Vegas BABY!

Sporting has become his trademark jail attire, the brotha grimaced as the amount was announced and meekly acknowledged that he understood. OJ Simpson got into trouble with the judge Nicole has decided to channel because he left a threatening phone message to a co-defendant involved in the armed robbery case against him. Details here!

Jesus Take The Wheel: Marion Jones Must Give-Up The Medals, Come Off Some Cash, And See An Orthodontist Immediately!

Marion We're Pissed At You, Let's Hug It Out

Broke and humiliated, Marion Jones can longer even take solace in seeing her name beside her greatest feats in the record books. The International Association of Athletics Federation on Friday annulled all of the Black track star's results dating to September 2000, including her Olympic and world championship titles, because of admitted doping from illegal steroid use.

What's more, track and field's governing body also wants Jones to pay back about $700,000 of the sistahs winnings during that period. Talk about piling on, isn't it bad enough that her career is ovah and a prison sentence is still looming? Of course the final nail in the coffin is that the organization has also recommended that Jones' relay teammates be disqualified and lose their medals from the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Is America Being Harder On High Profile Black Sports Figures?

For African American superstar athletes, this has not been a banner year. Michael Vick's dog case, Barry Bond's alleged perjury, the Isiah Thomas' sexual harassment verdict, Mike Tyson doing time in pink, Shaq's pending divorce, Adam "Pacman' Jones five arrests in two years, and of course everyone's favorite murderer, O.J. Simpson. We hate it when Black folks gloss over our issues and play victim in situations where we're just plain wrong. But since we keep it real here, let's just say that these stories have definitely spoiled our appetite for those Thanksgiving leftovers.

BREAKING NEWS: OJ SIMPSON MUST STAND TRIAL AND IS ALREADY FEELING THE SQUEEZE!

The Simpson Trial, Viva Las Vegas Style Baby!

It's officially on!

In a move that surprised noone, the Black former football great and B-list actor will now have to test luck again in a trial consisting of kidnapping, armed robbery and other charges stemming from an alleged sports memorabilia heist. That judge was not going to lose his job over OJ, trust us.

In his ruling just released moments ago, Justice of the Peace Joe M. Bonaventure ruled after a preliminary hearing of the charges and arguments against the case by attorneys for Simpson and co-defendants Clarence "C.J." Stewart and Charles "Charlie" Ehrlich. "This is what we expected," Simpson said in an interview after the decision. "If I have any disappointment it's that I wish a jury was here. As always, I rely on the jury system." No charges in the 12-count complaint against the three men were dropped. Although all these guys look shady, can you say bad Kharma!

Kidnapping convictions could result in a life sentence with possibility of parole. Armed robbery convictions would mandate some time in prison. The case stemmed from a Sept. 13 confrontation in a casino hotel room where Simpson and a group of men, waving guns in the air like they just didn't care, allegedly stole items from two sports memorabilia dealers.

All we can say is .. payback is a motha!

OJ Prelim In Las Vegas Court Today ... The Juice is Already Guilty

OJ Simpson is due in court today for a preliminary hearing as prosecutors present 12 counts against him for his involvement in armed robbery in Las Vegas. His defense is that he was seeking to get back stolen goods and he knew nothing of the guns others brought. His defense team is already seeing a little daylight as it is now reported that the FBI new about the intent and the "sting operation" OJ was going to attempt, three weeks prior, but failed to inform local Vegas authorities.

But let's face it folks, OJ is already guilty.
And I'm not talking about guilty of the double murder of Nicole Simpson and Ron Brown, that everyone in the legal system and half of America are still thinking, "he got away with".

I'm not talking about OJ being guilty of a horrible book he co-wrote, describing the murders.

I'm not talking about OJ being guilty of hustling his signatures at memorabilia shows where he wasn't invited.

No, I'm talking about OJ being guilty of not keeping his A** out of sight and quietly raising his kids.

Where is Phil Spector after getting the courtesy of a miss-trial?

Out of sight, Out of Mind.

Where is Robert Blake after being found not guilty of the murder of his wife, Bonny Lee Bakley?

Out of sight, Out of mind.

Where has Michael Jackson been since being acquitted of child molestation?

On the cover of Ebony Magazine ... er ...

but before that, ... he wasn't even in the country so he was ... Out of sight.

But every three weeks since Johnny Cochran got him off the hook, we have had one stupid public display after another. If he isn't making a 911 call, chasing someone with a golf club or showing what a dumb jock he is in a interview, OJ isn't happy.

Why, Why, Why can't this guy stay out of sight? This is what OJ is guilty of most. And for this and this alone OJ should do some jail time.

Web Update: Bail Set At $125,000 In The OJ Simpson Case!

A judge has just granted the defense request to have OJ Simpson released on bail in the alleged armed robbery, kidnapping case that has everyone strolling down memory lane. Doesn't everything about this feel like de ja vu?

Is it us or does OJ still look great, even in jail blues? This Black man does not age! Standing before the judge, OJ opted to not enter into a plea and reportedly spoke in a soft, low tone. Get more details here about the $125,000 Orenthal must now cough up to get sprung!

Breaking News: OJ Simpson Robbery Caught On Video!

While TMZ is credited with revealing to the world the audiotape of OJ Simpson's alleged profanity-laced armed robbery, we've just received the accompanying live videotape of the incident. Here it is:

Keep it here for continous breaking news on this story!

The Noose Around OJ's Neck Tightens As Phil Spector Prepares To Exit The Courtroom A Free Man

While a jury in downtown Los Angeles remain hung-up over whether famed record producer Phil Spector actually killed actress Lana Clarkson in his Southern California mansion four years ago, apparently what happens in Vegas leaves you facing life on lockdown if you're former football star O.J. Simpson.

Simpson's Former Criminal Defense Attorney Shawn Chapman Holley Explains Why The Spector Jurors are Hung

Orenthal James will make a court appearance Wednesday, a day after prosecutors lengthened the list of charges against him for being the foul-mouthed ringleader in an alleged robbery of sports memorabilia at a Nevada hotel last week. A day which could also see Spector become a free man now that we know several jurors have doubt as to whether he committed murder by putting a gun in the mouth of a 40-year-old woman and pulling the trigger.

The eleven criminal counts against Simpson, which started at nine before increasing to ten, now include two counts of first-degree kidnapping with use of a deadly weapon; two counts of robbery with a gun; and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon. All but one of the listed offenses levied against the 60-year-old athlete, actor and certified knucklehead are felonies.

BREAKING NEWS: BAIL SET AT $125, 000. SIMPSON TO BE RELEASED IN A FEW HOURS

As Judge Larry Fidler reconsiders adding a lesser included charge of manslaughter against the eccentric old guy with the crazy hair, prosecutors are clearly throwing everything but the kitchen sink at "The Juice".

They're contending that this once celebrated Black man and his "friends" -- co-defendants Walter Alexander, Clarence Stewart and Michael McClinton -- committed kidnapping because they intended to hold or detain the two alleged victims using a weapon to regain possession of OJ's stuff. The stuff that could send permanently send Simpson away include various baseballs, plaques, a historical photo featuring J. Edgar Hoover and a mobile phone, a police report said. Arrested at the Palm Casino & Hotel Sunday morning, he has remained in custody on a no-bail hold ever since over this crap.

Meanwhile, hopelessly deadlocked with a 7-5 split, the Spector jurors will go at it again today in what would be a major coup for the defense and another crushing defeat for the LA District Attorney's Office. Let's face it, Christopher Darden and Marcia Clark haven't been right since.

Now if you're like my wife, who could care less about Phil Spector and is no fan of OJ's by any stretch of the imagination, you've already concluded that the White boy is guilty and the brotha was set-up. This despite reports that the victims' statements in the Simpson matter are compelling and at least two guns were recovered during searches.

The only question remaining is which conspiracy theory are you going with. Is this straight payback to avenge the heinous murders of ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman? Was Fred Goldman actually working with Thomas Riccio -- a dealer and auctioneer of sports memorabilia who taped Simpson-- all along? Are "victims" Alfred Beardsley and Bruce Fromong, the men in possession of the items, actually the real criminals?

Goldmans Want OJ Merchandise, Including His Jewelry And The Clothes Off His Back, If Possible

Claiming that this was not a robbery and no guns were used, Simpson attorney Yale Galanter said his client has "a very substantial chance of being acquitted of those charges" and that "under the circumstances (Simpson) is doing well."

"All of our efforts up to this point has been to secure his release and that's what we'll try to do in the morning," Galanter told reporters late Tuesday. He will also ask the judge to release Simpson on "a reasonable bond," he said.

Given the circus that has already formed around this case, don't hold your breath. Want more? Check out CNN

Orenthal James Simpson Puts Race Back In The Ring: White Folks In That Corner, Blacks To The Left -- To The Left

Looks Like The Simpson Racial Spectacle Is Coming Live Via The Web, Who Needs HBO?

Arrested on robbery, assault, burglary and conspiracy charges, according to police, O.J. Simpson allegedly led a group of armed men in to a hotel room full of sports memorabilia collectors that knew OJ. One of the alleged victims even recorded the exchange with an audio recorder, which captured the ex-NFL star yelling profanities while continuously asking the men if they thought they could steal his “stuff” and sell it.

Ok, time for the Black Americans to get in their corner and the White Americans to get in theirs, and have another 13-year battle over whether or not OJ is the anti-Christ. Whenever the name OJ Simpson is mentioned, it becomes almost mandatory for White folks to start talking about decapitation, while Black folks to refer to Mark Fuhrman and a tainted crime scene.

Saying OJ’s name three times while staring at a mirror will instantly make all of the suppressed racial tension that still exists in this country to resurface. It will work on you, try it tonight! If you’re White, all of a sudden, you’ll think that your Black co-worker must have gotten the job because of affirmative action since he came from a bad neighborhood, and then you’ll remember your favorite pen has been missing for a couple of days. Check your pockets and count your money. If you’re Black, you’ll…well, you’ll be just fine, you will see things just as crystal clear as you always have about the rampant racism instituted, facilitated, and condoned by the government in America. (Sorry, I’ve already said his name 3 times, I’m powerless.)

Its ok to admit it, we’ve come a long way in this country from the days of segregated water fountains and unfavorable seating arrangements on buses, but when a murder occurs involving a Black and White person, each race tends to blindly take the side of Team Black and Team White for an argument that convinces no one of anything.

The truth is that the friends and family of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown can dislike Simpson and never think of anything else except for finding a way to get payback. For everyone else in the country to associate their deaths as something that personally made their lives worse is bordering on insanity.

These people have no emotional ties to these families or victims; it’s based in subliminal thinking that Team Black got an unfair victory over Team White while the justice system let it happen. Adding insult to injury and pushing the racial divide even wider was the sight of almost every Black person celebrating the verdict. Black people won the biggest upset of the century on the road among a hostile crowd and danced in their faces.

All of a sudden, it was thought that Black folks loved to see a White woman get her head damn near chopped off. In reality, there was no reveling in the Black community that the murders took place and that there were two less White people in the world.

Black people wanted the other side to finally feel what it was like to see your country’s justice system blatantly screw your entire race over with a murder acquittal that seemed so open and shut. They’ve felt this pain for most of the century, headlined by the murder of Emmitt Till in Mississippi in 1955.

These acquitted murderers that arguably committed a more heinous killing than OJ Simpson was accused of, even openly admitted to the crime 1 year later, much like Simpson did in his book this year, outlining how he did it if he had done it.

Now that OJ has had his 236th lapse of memory that he is the poster child for racial tension and payback for a majority of the country and he rushes a hotel room with accomplices, the discussion goes far away from this arrest and alleged crime, and on to beheadings and an arranged crime scene.

Look forward to seeing Fred Goldman on TV and in interviews about this crime that has absolutely nothing to do with him or his tragically murdered son.

It’s because we really don’t care about the victims of this hotel robbery, and we don’t care that they had guns pointed at their faces and were shoved around the room. Hell, we don’t even care about the group of men that accompanied OJ into the room who were holding the guns that aided the crime. Justice for this crime is not what’s on the minds of opponents to OJ Simpson. The sooner everyone admits that the obsession over this is based upon race and revenge for the system working their way or not working their way, the sooner we’ll be able to honestly hear what’s being said. This issue isn't very complicated, it's black and white, literally.

Keep talking, it’s the only way they’ll ever hear you.--JJJ

OJ Simpson May Be An Idiot Who Killed Two People And Then Wrote About It, But A Flight Risk? C'Mon!

Orenthal James On Lockdown

From The Collier Corner

His face is still recognized around the world, yet criminal justice officials in Las Vegas won't release O.J. Simpson on bail out of fear that he's a flight risk.

Well, where could/would he go? Where on planet Earth could O.J. Simpson hide?

He's a man who soared to stratospheric levels with his gridiron skills, sexy looks as a legendary NFL running back with the Buffalo Bills and later as a performer on the big screen. Of course, all that ended 13 years ago when he was found not guilty of the murders of his ex-wife Nicole and her friend, Ron Goldman.

Police: No Bail for O.J. Simpson in Las Vegas Robbery Arrest

He still gets jeered along with a few cheers here and there. And he's all over the news now that the book he wrote, 'If I Did It,' has hit bookstores. And it's the top-seller at Amazon.com.

He was arrested in Las Vegas after he and several accomplices allegedly burst into a hotel room and threatened men who he claimed illegally held his memorabilia. Reportedly, guns were wielded by Simpson's accomplices.

Is the denial of bail some bizarre way of getting back at Simpson for upsetting so many people 13 years ago?
