Third Quarter Is Pivotal In All 6 Previous Games

You could only assume that what happened in the third quarter last night, as usual with these two teams, would decide whether Tim Duncan could pack for one more trip to the French Quarter or pack for a long vacation on Maui.

As San Antonio's Tony Parker helpfully observed: "The whole series, man. Third quarter looks like it's pivotal."

That third quarter was ugly," Hornets guard Chris Paul conceded.

"Ugly."

Fatal might be a better word after the pattern continued late Thursday. It was an unreservedly hideous third quarter, this time endured by the New Orleans Hornets, which helped San Antonio pull away for a 99-80 rout that, at the very least, takes Team Duncan's bid to win back-to-back titles for the first time through to Monday night.

In the intervening three days until the decider, expect to hear loads about how the playoff rookies from New Orleans have outscored the reigning champs by a tidy count of 93-46 at home in the third quarters of their three victories ... and how the Hornets completely buckled in the third quarter of a Game 6 that could have eliminated the Spurs.

Lebron James Disses Moms!

You know how Black men when it comes to their mothers. But NBA Baller LeBron James had two words to say to his mother, Gloria: "Sit down!"

Before he silenced the Boston Celtics last night, LeBron James first had to quiet down his mother, Gloria. Ms. James came roaring into the action in the second quarter when her son was wrapped up on a breakaway dunk attempt by Paul Pierce. Haven't we seen this face from his royal badness before?

Kevin Garnett tried to calm her down, but it was LeBron who got the job done. "I told her to sit down, in some language I shouldn't have used," James said. "Thank God today wasn't Mother's Day. All I could think about is her. ... I know my mother. It's fine, we're good."

LeBron James's coach, Mike Brown, used the word "terrific" at least 12 times to describe the Cleveland Cavaliers' franchise player, who closed out the Washington Wizards at Verizon Center for the third consecutive year with an almost flawless performance during a 105-88 win on Friday night.

Atlanta Hawks Win again and force game 7. They wanted it more. Period. End of story. The Atlanta Hawks wanted Game 6 more than the Boston Celtics.

They were first to loose balls. "Every loose ball, they got," said Celtics coach Doc Rivers. "And made shots after the loose ball. I thought half their scores came off of broken plays, balls rolling on the floor, they pick it up and score."

Media reports are indicating that the couple will tie the knot next month.

Ironically, Tony Parker, 25 was on the trading block a couple of years ago. Born in Bruges, Belgium and raised near Paris, Eva's man is now the first European player to win the honor.

After winning four straight games to get to the finals, the Cavs lost four straight. It may have had something to do with LeBron James getting no sleep the night before. While he only scored 24 points, he was there for the birth of his son. For that black man, we tip our hat.

Rude and ruthless, the Spurs ruined Cleveland’s 37-year wait to host the NBA finals on Tuesday night, beating the Cavaliers 75-72 in low scoring Game 3 to move within one win of a fourth title.

Tony Parker scored 17 points and Tim Duncan had 14, but Ginobili had just three — all free throws in the final 10.4 seconds — to hold off the Cavaliers and crush the hopes of the home crowd, who had never before seen their team play a finals game in person.

Bruce Bowen, the defensive stopper who scored 13 points, emerged as an unlikely offensive star as the Spurs now take a commanding 3-0 lead in a series few are watching.

No team has ever come back from an 0-3 deficit. It doesn’t look like the Cavaliers will be the first, but they may become the first finals sweep for the Spurs, who are shooting for their fourth title since 1999.

Cleveland’s chances ended when LeBron James, who led the Cavaliers with 25 points, was short with a 3-pointer in the final seconds.

James, 22, dominated Game 5 against the Pistons, scoring Cleveland's final 25 points in the victory.

Jordan, who won six NBA championships during his 13 seasons with the Chicago Bulls, said the next challenge for the fellow Black superstar is to achieve consistency.

James took a "big step" forward in the series against the Pistons, but the NBA Finals against the Spurs will provide another huge test, Jordan said.

James was thrilled to learn of Jordan's approval. "Anytime you get praise from the guy who basically laid down all the stones for you to get here. I grew up idolizing his game and how he played the game of basketball. It was definitely great to hear."

SPURS SPANK JAZZ: BLAME IT ON EVA LONGORIA

Unlike "Desperate Housewives" character Gabrielle Solis, the San Antonio Spurs aren’t flashy and don’t brag.

They just clean-up, and the display they put on at the start of their 109-84 victory over the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night should serve as a warning to Detroit and Cleveland what one of them will be facing when the championship round begins next week.
