So I said to him, "Barack, I know Abe Lincoln, and you ain't Abe Lincoln."
A fellow member of the GOP, also African American, sent this picture and accompanying words via email. It depicts famed members of the Republican Party including Nixon, Reagan, Bush I & II, and Roosevelt among others sitting around a table engaging in what appears to be a friendly poker game.
My friend wanted to know what I thought of this. I had an immediate visceral reaction that was so strong, it me to stop what I was doing and post it. It doesn't stop here. Under the hood, check out the rest of the language.
You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence.
You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.
