2007 ESPY AWARDS: BEARS BALLER DEVIN HESTER WINS ESPY FOR BREAKTHROUGH ATHLETE

Before he became a teenager, Devin Hester, 24, had some challenges in his life. His mother was severely injured in car accident, while his father died of cancer two years later.

His step-father, Derrick Brown, and brother, Lenorris Jr., helped the brother escape his depression and rebuild his life by introducing him to football. This also got him focused on academics.

The Chicago Bears running back and possible wide receiver hasn't looked back since.

In winning the Espy Wednesday night in Los Angeles for break-through athlete, this young man gives us hope.

As much as we talk about Allen Iverson or Pacman Jones, it's refreshing to see a cat that seems to get it. Hester is even said to actually bring a Bible to every game he plays.

While he could always be fronting, this brother's impressed. Even reading about how Hester’s family resides in Florida, was struck by Hurricane Wilma in 2005, and how he's assisted in helping them rebuild their home just sheds some light into what he's about.

Keep it up Black man!

Speaking of brothers, here's some of the other night's winners!
