Thandie Newton Opens In "W", Oliver Stones's Latest Film

Newton’s gorgeous looks nearly did torpedo her chances for W. “I was not an advocate at first for Thandie. When Oliver Stone suggested the idea, I said, ‘What? This is the girl you hire because she’s hot, not for a major character.’ Becoming Condi Rice is a massive undertaking, but Thandie made a total transformation,Thandie came onto the set and surprised all of us,” --- W star Josh Brolin

Check under the hood for the W review

Finding substance in George W. Bush where there seemed to be only thin air, and confident that what's past is prologue, Oliver Stone's "W." is not the hatchet job some may have expected (or hoped for). It is instead a measured and thoughtful meditation on a leader who, this terrific movie believes, inadvertently made the world as roiling as his soul.

His conscience, of course, is another matter. But Stone, screenwriter Stanley Weiser and especially Josh Brolin, in the title role, somehow reach even that uncleared brush inside the 43rd President. Brolin's performance is nuanced yet piercing, going beyond the empty proclamations and idiotic malaprops to finally find a there there.

The film opens with the Oval Office preparations for the 2002 State of the Union address, in which the phrase "Axis of Evil" is to be introduced. Assembled is Bush's cabal - er, cabinet - of advisers, including Vice President Dick Cheney (Richard Dreyfuss), Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld (Scott Glenn), National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice (Thandie Newton) and presidential brain-holder Karl Rove (Toby Young).

Black Actresses Claw Their Way To A Role With Substance And Our Girl Thandie Wins Out!

Thandie Newton Gets Cast in 'W'

Oliver Stone has found the sistah to play Condoleezza Rice in his upcoming "W," with Thandie Newton in final negotiations to star as the National Security Advisor-turned-Secretary of State.

Newton, born in Zambia and raised in England, is a Brit, making her the first non-American to be cast for a role in the U.S. administration.

The svelte biracial beauty has previously had roles in "The Pursuit of Happyness" and "Mission Impossible: II." She's currently in Picturehouse's "Run Fatboy Run" and stars in Guy Ritchie's upcoming mob pic "RocknRolla."

Stone's "W" is expected to start shooting shortly, with QED and Stone's own Ixtlan banner producing and QED financing. Bill Block, Moritz Borman and Jon Kilik are producers.

The movie will look at Bush's formative years and path to the president as well as his life inside the White House.

As one of the few cabinet members to serve during both Bush terms, Rice's role in the Bush White House is seen as pivotal. According to those who've read the "W" script, Rice is said to be in a key first scene as well as a number of scenes connected to the Iraq war. Blair also appears in Iraq-related scenes.

Among the key "W" roles yet to be cast are those of Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and Karl Rove. [Hollywood Reporter]

BLACK ACTRESS THANDIE NEWTON REVEALS A SECRET THAT'S NOT ALL THAT SURPRISING

Hot English actress Thandie Newton, 35, has recently disclosed she battled bulimia for a year.

Well, Stevie Wonder could see that! I'm just saying.

The biracial star of "Mission Impossible", "Pursuit of Happyness", "Norbit" and "Crash" told People that her eating disorder started when she was a teen ballet dancer, and that she ate "nothing but cottage cheese" in order to stay thin.

Years later, after a string of emotionally abusive relationships, the married mother of two girls, Ripley, 6, and Nico, 2, had an eating disorder relapse.

Her bulimia was so severe that she has "scars on my knuckles from where I put my fingers down my throat."It wasn't until she went to a therapist years later that she "made the connection between shame and self abuse."

Thandie Newton (pronounced TAN-dee) was actually born in Zambia. Her name means "beloved" which, interestingly enough, was the name of the character she played in Oprah's 1998 movie"Beloved."

What I didn't know was that she was originally set to be in the film Charlie's Angels, but had to pull out (Lucy Liu replaced her).

Next time you have backyard barbecue, make sure you drop Newton an invitation. We've gotta fatten this sister up!
