Smooth Hip-Hop Singer and Rapper Nate Dogg Dead At 41

Popular Long Beach, California Native Attended School with Snoop

US hip-hop star Nate Dogg, who worked with Snoop Dogg, Warren G and Eminem, has died at the age of 41. His lawyer, Mark Geragos, said the singer died as a result of complications from two strokes he suffered in recent years.

Snoop Dogg paid tribute to a "true legend of hip-hop and R&B".

Nate Dogg, real name Nathaniel Hale, sang on Warren G's hit Regulate as well as tracks by Dr Dre, 50 Cent and Ludacris. On Twitter, Snoop Dogg said Nate Dogg was "one of my best friends and a brother to me since 1986 when I was a sophomore at Poly High where we met".

Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg and Warren G began their careers in a rap trio in Long Beach called 213 in the early 1990s. Nate Dogg went on to feature on such hits as 50 Cent's 21 Questions, Eminem's Shake That and Area Codes by Ludacris.

Ludacris tweeted: "There is a certain void in hip-hop's heart that can never be filled. Glad we got to make history together."

His manager Rod McGrew tells TMZ that Nate Dogg’s life came to an unexpected end despite the progress he had made. He was “95% recovered from the first stroke in 2007” when a second stroke struck in 2008, rendering him partially paralyzed and causing partial memory loss. Up until his death, he had “cognitively fully recovered,” meaning that he had become completely aware and got his memory back.

McGrew spoke on behalf of Nate Dogg’s family and thanked fans for the overwhelming support. “We appreciate the enormous outpouring of response from all over the world. We greatly appreciate that and thank everyone for their prayers and support,” read the statement. “We know that Nate will be hanging out with his good friends 2Pac and Biggie.”

WHY BLACK WOMEN ARE ANGRY: SNOOP DOGG & THEM HIP HOP HOES!

Don't Hate The Playa, Hate The Playa & The Game!

When he's not remixing ABC Soap Opera themes, here's what West Coast rapper Calvin Broadus is saying about hip hop, "Hip-hop is what it is. We have our certain views on women the way we do. It’s like Playboy. Do anybody got something to say about the way Playboy view women? They take their shirt off and show their t**ties. That’s the first way to get into Playboy. You gotta show Hugh Heffner your t**ties if you wanna get in Playboy.

There’s nothing degrading about that, but at the same time, when we show women in videos, they have their clothes on. We don’t play videos on BET with women naked; we can’t get away with that. But it’s degrading what we’re doing, when in actuality, we’re giving these women a chance to shine.

Now, if these women would become directors and depict women in a different light, then that would give them a different light as far as the way people view them. A male director is gonna direct it the way he feels. He’s gonna make it the way a woman looks sexy."

Snoop Dogg To Trade His Mike For A Rake After Felony Weapons Conviction

The Dogg To Pick-Up Leaves for Community Service

Snoop will spend 160 hours of community service cleaning up an Orange County park after pleading guilty last month to a felony weapons charge. Brotherman's chores to include "raking leaves, washing cars, cleaning toilets (and) picking up litter," according to The Orange County Register. The name of the park was not released, in an attempt to keep fans, stalkers and bloggers at bay.

It is also unclear when the talented Black rapper will begin. Snoop's attorney, Donald Etra, says his client wants to pay his debt and get on with things. "He will do whatever it takes," Etra said. "He will be making the park a better place for Orange County." Etra added that Snoop (real name: Calvin Broadus) does not see the work as menial. Yeah right!

The 35-year-old rap star was arrested in September 2006 while trying to board a plane with a 20-inch collapsible baton in a computer bag.

SNOOP v. OPRAH: OUR UNRESOLVED ISSUES WITH HIP-HOP AND HIM

SHOULD OPRAH LET SNOOP BE ON HER SHOW?

Last week, the hip-hop star's name was mentioned on Oprah's gabfest in a discussion about lyrical content and the effect this bullcrap has on our children.

But despite Winfrey's opposition to graphic rap lyrics, Dogg -- real name Calvin Broadus -- wants to sit down and talk with her on her show.

"I'm a fan of Oprah. I feel like whatever they're saying about me, negative or positive, I appreciate it", Snoop was quoted as saying.

"I'm Snoop Dogg -- you can't (badmouth) me because I do so much right and I'm the person who represents me the best."

The hell we can't. That Imus defense went out with the 8-track, my brother!

Broadus goes on, "Snoop Dogg is a father, he's a (football) coach, he's a teacher. I'm a man, and I do make mistakes and I'm willing to listen and learn. But a lot of times, they don't know me, so they have to speak on what they feel. But it is what it is."

"I appreciate you, Oprah. I've never been on your show, so thank you for bringing my name up on your show. I'm sure that'll mean another million record sales. Thank you."

Again, it's always about the cheddar. Family, we need to put Snoop on blast and stop co-signing on the excuses, justifications, and rationales given for calling women bitches and hos and brothers the n-word.

You can't sit up there and coach kids on the field and teach them important life lessons, then get high in public, be convicted of multiple felonies, promote porn videos with your name above the title, and throw-up gang signs while your ass is trying to sell the 2 million dollar crib you're rockin' in the suburbs.

Like Peaches without Herb, this ain't flyin' with us. Period!
