Why Black Women Are Angry: Men, We Gotta To Stop Treating Sistas Like Late Night Jump-Offs And Booty Calls

Three Brothers is currently getting our groove on to…

Let’s Do It Again! by The Staples Singers

Sometimes the rain
Groovin' when I hear the sound
Like you and me, baby
Gettin' down with the sounds around
Oh, the smell of the mornin' flower
As we pass away the hour
I wanna do it again, do it again
Do it (Do it)

***Everybody get up now***

Let's do it in the mornin'
Sweet breeze in the summer time
Feeling your sweet face
All laid up next to mine
Sweet love in the midnight
Good sleep, come mornin' light
No worries 'bout nothin'
Just gettin' good, just gettin' good
Just gettin' good love. Woo, hoo, hoo, hoo!

Now that’s how a Black woman likes to start her day… Brothas, let's make that happen for her!

If we can family, maybe folks won't just keep hooking-up. Instead, more Black people will actually start getting married, raising their kids TOGETHER, and living the American dream. Ain't that right Mavis Staples?

WAKE UP FOLKS: NEARLY HALF OF U.S. MURDER VICTIMS ARE BLACK, AND WE'RE ONLY 13 PERCENT OF THE POPULATION!

A published report today shows that of the 16,500 murder victims in 2005, 8,000 or 49 percent, were Black, per statistics released from the bureau of the Department of Justice.

This is a damn shame.

Broken down by gender, 6,800 Black men were murdered in 2005, making up more than half ,the nearly 13,000 male murder victims. Black women made up 35 percent, or 1,200, of the nearly 3,500 female homicide victims.

Whatever issue traditional Black organizations and civil rights groups are focused on, they need to scrap that agenda and focus solely on this!

Young Black men aged between 17 and 29 bore a disproportionately high burden in the grim statistics, making up 51 percent of African-American murder victims. The percentage of White male murder victims in the same age group was 37 percent.

More than half the murders of Blacks took place in densely populated urban areas. Firearms were involved 77 percent of the time in homicides involving Black people and around 60 percent of the time in murders of Whites.

Most murder victims -- 93 percent of Blacks and 85 percent of Whites -- were killed by someone of their own race. Gang violence was involved in around five percent of homicides with Black victims against seven percent for White victims.

And if someone blames this ish on White racism, you will be forever banished from this blog!

In percentage terms, Whites were twice as likely to be killed by a current or former partner than Blacks -- 12 percent of Whites were murdered by a life partner against six percent of Blacks. Blacks were also at greater risk of rape or sexual assault than any other ethnic group except American Indians, the report showed.

RUN FOR YOUR LIFE LINDSAY LOHAN, IT'S THE ATTACK OF THE GIANT NEGROES!

By Undercover Black Man

Gather round, dear readers, and you will hear of a time when “giant negroes” roamed the earth. These giants committed shocking crimes. Newspapers from sea to shining sea documented their foul deeds.

Especially the New York Times.

The Times first acknowledged the existence of these fearsome creatures on August 5, 1897. The headline was “Insane Negro Giant in Newark.”

Over the next four decades, the New York Times provided all the news that was fit to print about “giant negroes.” Articles with headlines such as these:

“Giant Negro Attacks Police.” [Sept. 24, 1900]

“Negro Giant Guilty.” [July 28, 1905]

“Armed Negro Giant Goes Mad on Liner.” [May 15, 1916]

SCORE ONE FOR BLACK BLOGGERS: BET REPLACES "HOT GHETTO MESS" WITH "WE'VE GOT TO DO BETTER!"

MEDIA ALERT: A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT FOR AFRICAN-AMERICANS

I'M STRESSED OUT! WHY? BECAUSE I'VE BEEN BLACK ALL DAY!

An African American Woman Laments On How The Day To Day Dis Can Really Take Its Toll

By Brenda Payton

IT WAS SUNDAY. My husband and I had been for a short bike ride and we'd stopped at the grocery store to pick up something to cook for dinner. I begged off going into the store and waited for him in the car.

I opened the car door, basking in the sun and the Latin jazz rhythms on the radio.

I'd been sitting there for maybe 10 minutes. Other shoppers had come and gone. A woman got out of her SUV and started walking toward the store. A white woman. She saw me sitting in the car and turned back, pushing the remote button to lock her car. She proceeded into the store.

Seeing me and locking her car may have been completely unrelated. She may have been planning to lock it and just happened to look in my direction before she did. However, I couldn't shake the feeling she had seen me, an African American sitting in a car, and decided she'd better lock her doors.

For a moment, I could feel myself getting angry. "I'm not going to let some idiot ruin this beautiful day," I thought. But I looked at her when she returned to her car. And clearly, I didn't forget the incident.

It was a classic example of mundane extreme environmental stress, so named by Grace Carroll, a longtime Oakland, California resident, who holds a doctorate in the sociology of education and last year published a booklet "M.E.E.S. and Me: Musings of a Mad Matriarch."

"Black people live in a different social reality than the majority," she said. "Minute things happen every single day that put us in a mindset. And we have so many more important things to think about. Dealing with it is stressful."

Part of the stress is not knowing for sure. Was the woman locking her door because she thought an African-American woman was a threat? Or was she simply locking her door as usual?

Carroll said she is convinced the higher incidence and greater severity of illnesses among African Americans is linked to this daily stress. Indeed, in 2005 a report presented to the American Heart Association linked increased risk of cardiovascular disease in African-American women with discrimination.

BLACK BUSINESS OWNER TELLS THE WORLD HE'S SICK OF BLACK EMPLOYEE THEFT: IS THAT RACIST?

Sign Posted At Georgia Restaurant Offends For Speaking Truth To What Many Don't Want To Acknowledge

On the outskirts of Snellville sits Houston's Finest Sports Bar and Cigar Lounge, its doors now chained shut with a sign many residents find offensive:

“Closed Due to African American Continuous Employee Theft.”

Cynthia Quarterman is outraged, in part because her 15-year-old son will soon join the workforce. “The concern is will every employer say ‘look, here’s an African-American male. Will he be stealing?’” Quarterman said.

The owner of the club, the one who wrote the sign, is himself African-American.

The business license was granted to J.L. Menafee of Snellville. A myspace.com page has a profile of the place, claiming it had a clientele that was primarily African-American.

Deborah Fuller came here often. She said Menatee complained openly his employees were stealing from him. “I think his anger probably got the best of him, and sometimes we act inappropriately out of anger,” Fuller said.

Also on the doors was a promise that a new location is coming soon, though there is no word yet as to where that location will be. (watch video)

If his employees and customers were predominantly Black, does that make it okay? For us it's a no-brainer!

What say you?

BET'S HOT GHETTO MESS IS SPARKING BLACK OUTRAGE ONLINE! THE SLEEPING GIANT HAS AWAKEN!!!

Alison Stewart was on MSNBC today filling in for Keith Olberman on Countdown.

While I enjoyed watching the sister do her thing, it was one of Stewart's topics that actually gave me reason to pause.

She talked about the upcoming show on BET called "Hot Ghetto Mess." As I listened to the discussion, something crystallized for me. I suddenly realized that this defining issue, this battle between two sides of Black consciousness, has now gone mainstream.

What was interesting, however, was that Stewart was talking about the case of whether the controversial show should go forward based on all the chatter -- not on radio or in newspapers -- but on the Internet!

So much for the digital-divide between Blacks and White.

Finally identifying a purpose to galvanize and create community, this controversy is the imprimatur of what heretofore has been a digital Black community largely ignored by everyone, including most Black folks.

But you can no longer ignore Jack and Jill Politics, Afronerd, Prometheus 6 and even this blog. Why, because each of us in our own unique way are collectively beating the drum about how we feel about an issue that has struck a nerve. And the statement each of our sites and other bloggers (see our links) are making is clear, "STOP DENIGRATING BLACK PEOPLE!"

A blog, called "What About Our Daughters" has even taken it one step further, making every attempt in order to prevent this show from hitting the air in two weeks. This blog just started in May, and yet its ranking in Technorati is impressive, considering the millions of blogs out there.

Plus, an online petition, which has nearly 3,500 signatures as of 2PM on Thursday has started circulating on the web.

We've already seen State Farm Insurance and Home Depot asked BET to drop their ads from the show, which is set to air on July 25.

In this post-Imus world we live in, networks, media outlets, and society in general, are being held to higher standards of accountability when it comes to anything that is race related.

Are people overacting to 'Hot Ghetto Mess' because it's BET, a meager piece of giant Viacom's media empire? The same Viacom who owns CBS. What about VH1 you ask? Oh, we forgot, Viacom owns VH-1 too!

So why pick on BET? Because Black Entertainment Television has cache among African Americans. Although no longer Black owned, BET -- for better or worse -- continues to define who we are. At least for now.

So when the question is posed as to why there were no petitions preventing 'Flavor Flav' or 'I Love New York 2' from hitting the air, initially, the silence is awkwardly deafening.

But the reason is quite simple and straightforward. No one stepped up to the plate. And so while ratings for these "coonish" shows were off the charts, the collateral damage continues to be calculated.

But life, as we know, is bittersweet. It is because of Flav and New York, Bobby Brown, Don Imus, offensive rap, and even Reverend Al Sharpton's grassroots chutzpah that has collectively served as the catalyst for many of us to "Wake Up."

Thank you Spike Lee.

Our global image, what defines us in terms of culture and purpose is no longer for sale without a fight -- at least not on our watch!

We are at a crucial point in our history folks, where everyone truly has the power to make their collective voice be heard. This is not about BET, the very funny and talented Charlie Murphy, CEO Debra Lee or BET President Reginald Hudlin.

It's bigger then them. Because it's about us!

And the revolution going on will be televised... only digitally!

ONE BLACK MAN TAKES A SWING AT BARRY BONDS: FOUL BALL OR HOMERUN?

Bryan Burwell, MSNBC Contributor

Nothing is simple as it used to be with Barry Bonds, not the hatred or the love, not the villainy or the celebrity. As he edges closer and closer to erasing one of the most iconic numbers in American sports, somehow everything that used to seem so obvious about baseball’s most polarizing figure — good versus evil, right vs. wrong — has been blurred beyond recognition.

In San Francisco this week during baseball’s All-Star Game festivities, Bonds was surrounded by a fascinating coterie of love and support. His all-star peers all but genuflected in his presence. The fans in his hometown ballpark, AT&T Park, cascaded him with love and cheers. If you had traveled across the galaxy and landed in this place with no historical context to the Giants slugger, you would have believed this man was the sport’s most famous star, not its most infamous scoundrel.

And now there is an even more confusing plot twist, as he nears Hank Aaron’s all-time home run mark: somehow Bonds has evolved from villain to victim.

“I like Barry Bonds and I find the press coverage of him to be incredibly one-sided. Just because he won't play nice with reporters, you folks have vilified him… It still has not been proven that Bonds took steroids. Even if he did, who cares?”

E-mails like these come flooding in from across the country whenever I write a column daring to question the legitimacy of the Giants slugger and his chemically-enhanced pursuit of Henry Aaron’s all-time home run record. The tone of these emails are frighteningly similar to the ones that came following any column I wrote criticizing Mark McGwire and his steroid-tainted legitimacy.

These passionate, yet ill-informed pockets of support seem to suggest that we should ignore the obvious — that the reputations of baseball’s biggest stars and the validity of its most honored records are being tainted by magic potions, imaginative chemists and their muscle-bound lab experiments/athletes. In their eyes, Bonds, much like McGwire, is a persecuted casualty of the sports media’s war on drugs.

In their eyes, Bonds is a victim of a sinister conspiracy. It’s the media. It’s racially inspired. They tell you it’s a senseless chase and a victimless crime. But mostly what they’re saying is that they only care if the cheater is from another town, another team or another country, which is another way of reciting the ultimate modern sports fan’s new creed:

“We know he might be a lying, cheating, muscle-bound fraud with a syringe stuck in his butt. But he’s OUR lying, cheating, muscle-bound fraud with a syringe stuck in his butt.”

So everyone finds a way to twist the truth and fudge reality. And the latest episode in the Barry Bonds Second to One Reality Show is this galling plot twist: How did Bonds suddenly become a martyr for the civil rights movement? Better yet, how did this lifetime brother of convenience suddenly become the Jack Johnson of his generation, while at the same time Hank Aaron — one of the most legitimate American sports heroes of this or any generation — ends up getting painted as some racial sellout?

Lately I have been getting a lot of e-mails from young black men who are mad with Aaron and claim he is the bad guy because he has chosen not sanction an admitted drug cheat who is on the verge of breaking his record.

Oh brother, please.

Anyone who honestly thinks that Aaron is the bad guy and Bonds is the tragic victim either has absolutely no sense of American history, or is a complete idiot.

OK, I know what I’ve done. I’ve just fired the loaded gun. I know exactly where this is about to lead. It’s leading to a barrage of “sellout” and “Uncle Tom” nonsense from folks who are anxious to misuse America’s most lethal weapon of mass distraction: race.

BOBBY CUTTS: THE ALL TOO FAMILIAR STORY OF YET ANOTHER BLACK MAN ON LOCKDOWN

Like So Many African-American Males, This Brother Had 'Issues'

Bobby Cutts Jr.'s oldest daughter, Taylor, was born out of wedlock to a Nikki Giavasis in 1997. A younger daughter, Breonna, was born to another woman in 2001, shortly before Cutts married her.
His son, 2-year-old Blake, was born to girlfriend Jessie Davis while Cutts was separated from his wife. His daughter, Chloe, was due July 3rd.

But now Cutts, 30, is accused of murdering Jesse Marie Davis and their unborn child.

"There's a lot of little children being absolutely devastated over this," Davis' mother, Patricia Porter, said Monday outside Canton Municipal Court. "We can't forget them."

Davis, 26, was missing for about a week before her body was found in a northeast Ohio park Saturday. A former Canton police officer, Cutts is accused of killing Davis and the fetus June 14 at her home in nearby Lake Township.

Cutts' stepmother, Barbara Cutts, on Monday called her stepson a generous man who was good with kids and coached youth soccer, basketball and football.

She said she and Cutts' father last saw him Saturday at his house in Plain Township outside North Canton, where he appeared drained and exhausted.

"It's very hard to accept," said Barbara Cutts, 46, a nurse's aide. "A lot of people are looking at him like a bad person, but he's not, he really isn't."

WHERE DA' WHITE WOMEN AT?

Cutts and model Nikki Giavasis met while attending nearby Walsh University. Taylor has lived with Giavasis for most of her life in California, but Cutts challenged the custody arrangement in 2005.

Hours before Cutts' arraignment, Stark County Family Court Judge David Stucki dismissed a custody case here, citing the charges against Cutts as one factor in his decision. Another custody dispute over Taylor is ongoing in a California court.

"The family has deliberately tried not to burden her (Taylor) with this," Jakmides said, referring to the murder case. "They've tried as much as possible to keep her from the media storm."

Susan Hulit Burns, Taylor's court-appointed guardian, said she was bothered by how often Giavasis switched apartments and daycare providers. She said she was also bothered that Cutts "conceived a child during his separation" from his wife, according to a June 2006 court filing.

In 1998, Cutts was accused of breaking into Giavasis' home while she was inside with former NBA player Shawn Kemp of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Baby daddy Kemp is now paying Giavais upwards of $20,000 a month in child support.

Cutts pleaded no contest to a disorderly conduct charge and was sentenced to three years' probation.

Trying to get his life in order, Cutts became a Canton police officer. He soon met his future wife, Kelly Schaub.

A neighbor said he heard that Schaub (who is also White) met Cutts when she called police to her Crescent Road home.

In July 2001, Schaub and Cutts married, two months after their baby girl Breonna was born.

Cutts seperated from Kelly in 2003 while facing criminal charges after his police supervisors alleged he had given his gun to a drug-dealing cousin.

Cutts was acquitted and an arbitrator ordered Canton to rehire him with back pay.

During the separation, he and Jessie Davis conceived Blake, born in December 2004. On Monday, Porter was granted temporary custody of the boy in Stark County Family Court.
It was Blake who provided investigators searching for Davis their first clues earlier this month, saying: "Mommy was crying. Mommy broke the table. Mommy's in rug." Porter found the boy home alone on June 15, with Davis missing, furniture toppled in the bedroom and a pool of bleach on the floor.

Porter said Monday she's not sure who Cutts is anymore. "We knew Bobby Cutts up to a certain day in this and from that day on we did not know him at all," she said. "I don't think my daughter ever knew him either."

Cutts played football, wearing No. 9, at GlenOak High School, a suburban school whose most famous graduate is goth rocker Marilyn Manson.

After he became a police officer, Cutts also played semiprofessional football with the Massillon Bengals in the Ohio Valley League and in 2005 was drafted by the Canton Legends of the Atlantic Indoor Football League.

Cutts played softball the evening of June 13 and then spent about four hours at a sports bar in Canton. He told The (Canton) Repository last week that he called Davis that night - the day before he's accused of killing her - and that it was the last time they spoke.

WASHINGTON'S HEAD NEGRO IN CHARGE HAS FOLKS ASKING - WHERE THE BROTHERS AT MAYOR?

In City Brimming With Black Talent, Black Writer Laments The Lack of Color In Fenty's Cabinet

Story By Courtland Milloy

By now, you'd think D.C. Mayor Adrian M. Fenty would be feeling the heat. When a black mayor takes the helm of a majority-black city and starts replacing black Cabinet officials with white ones, you'd expect him to get at least some static.

Not Fenty. He appoints a white police chief. Good reception. Names a white fire chief. Cool. White city administrator. Hailed as one of the best. School chancellor is Korean American. He's thinking outside the box.

"When I'm out in the community, most people are telling me that they want officers walking the beat, more aggressive community policing and reductions in crime. Nine out of 10 people I meet want the schools fixed. They are not asking for one type of person for the job -- the issue is getting the job done."

Fenty, 36, is fast emerging as the District's first black mayor who is not particularly race conscious. Moving about the city like an old-fashioned ward boss, brim of his black hat turned down on his bald head -- all the while sending a message that as long as the city's top dog is black, nobody has to worry about his subordinates being white.

As unbelievable as this may sound, Black people want competent folks handling our business as well. What pisses us off is when we're denied opportunities because of our melon-rich skin, while some White men in this day and age still -- perhaps subconsciously-- feel entitled to all the goodies.

Look no further than the 2008 Presidential Election and the Obama dilemma both Democrats and Republicans are struggling with. Who's going to stop talking about his race first, Blacks or Whites?

Let's put five on it.

OKAY BLACK FOLKS: IS IT AX OR ASK???

Garrard McClendon, professor of Education at Calumet College of St. Joseph in Indiana, has written an interesting book called “Ax or Ask? The African-American Guide to Better English."

McClendon penned the book to, “teach African Americans how to speak mainstream American English in order to avoid employment and educational discrimination and exclusion due to dialect.”

BLACK STUDENTS REALLY DO LIKE CREAM-N-SUGAR LOOKING BLACK PARTNERS

A majority of African American students polled at a Midwestern university say lighter complexions are more attractive than darker ones, according to a study conducted by researchers from two Louisiana schools.

The results, taken from a sample of 100 students, indicated that 96 percent of the men preferred a medium to light complexion in women while 70 percent of women found light skin of value in men.

This latest analysis of mating preferences explored a number of probable causes, all of which were rooted in the "colorism" prevalent from slavery through the 1960s, where lighter skin typically meant more privilege. The results were published in 2006 in the journal Race, Gender and Class.

DO BLACKS KILL WHITES BECAUSE THEY'RE WHITE?

Knoxville Police Chief Sterling Owen IV was emphatic.

"There was absolutely no evidence," Owen said, that the murders of Channon Christian and Chris Newsom were "racially motivated."

The chief had to be direct in his admonition about the torture and heinous killing of the Tennessee couple in January. Both are alleged to have been repeatedly raped, with Newsom's body set on fire. The young victims were White. All five of the defendants, including one woman, are Black.

Some Whites -- rightfully so -- are outraged because of the perceived lack of media coverage resulting from this racial dynamic.

Police subsequently arrested an organizer after he fought with officers during a protest last Saturday about this case. Alex Linder, who operates a White supremacist and anti-Semitic Web site, ignored orders from police. The Missouri man faces charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, vandalism and assault on a police officer.
Fewer than 30 protesters, but about twice as many counter-protesters attended the rally. Police say Linder was the only one arrested.

While Christian's parents have said they no sympathy for extremists who want to use the racial aspects of the case for their own purposes, the perpetrators could have had racial ulterior motives.

Black writer Earl Ofari Huthinson explores this and insinuates that perhaps race did play a role. I agree with this analysis and would go one step further. If the hate-crime enhancement can not be legally proven, this should not in any way deter the judge, upon conviction, in sentencing the perpetrators to the maximum prison time allowed.

Black folks must be outraged and not mitigate in any way how savagely these innocent victims were treated. If the folks were Black and the accused were White, this story would be huge and we know it - especially in the Black blogosphere.

There would be special reports about racism in the South, how will this case affect the 2008 Presidential Election, and Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton racing each other to the airport so they can be the spokeshole for the grieving family.

Now if we're going to keep it real, we also have to talk about Natalie Holloway, or Madeleine McCann, the missing blond, blue-eyed little London three-year old that has saturated the news of late. Meanwhile, Black, Latino, Asian, and Native-American children turn up missing all the time and their families can't buy airtime. Or what about the enormous amount of time the mainstream media spends discussing Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Mischa Barton, Kim Kardashian, etc....

That's what the Aryan Nation needs to be protesting.

Stop me when I start lying!
