Soul Train Music Awards Gone For Good!!!

Now if we could just get rid of the Soul Train Christmas Spectacular, I would be all to happy. You see Don Cornelius and his production team are notorious for not paying folks money they are due after working for him, myself included. In fact Don and Company...

...have plenty of reuse of video infractions. A spokeswoman said the show would not go ahead with its 22nd annual installment this year, but a reason was not specified.

At last year's event in Pasadena, most of the winners did not show up, including such A-listers as Beyonce Knowles, Mary J. Blige, John Legend and Gnarls Barkley.

The show takes place a few weeks after the Grammys, the music industry's top awards. Similarly themed ceremonies like the BET Awards have also provided some competition.

Perhaps more critically, the underlying syndicated dance show "Soul Train" ended its historic run in 2006. It was distributed by Tribune Entertainment, which exited the syndication business when billionaire Sam Zell took its Tribune Co. parent private late last year in a highly leveraged deal.

That leaves 'Soul Train' the movie, which is still on track to roll into theaters later this year!

'Gangsta' and 'Debaters' Lead Globe Nominations

The Black hoodlum crime saga "American Gangster,"has nabbed a best drama nominee for the 65th Golden Globes.

The inspirational Black college drama "The Great Debaters,"directed by Denzel Washington and produced by Oprah Winfrey, also received a nod and we are beyond ecstatic to see films depicting African American culture getting their much deserved kudos.

Along with "Eastern Promises", "No Country for Old Men," the legal drama "Michael Clayton" and the California oil-boom epic "There Will Be Blood." Globe voters picked seven dramatic nominees, rather than the usual five."Atonement" led the competition with seven nominations Thursday, including best drama and acting honors for Keira Knightley and James McAvoy.

No clear front-runners have yet emerged in the long buildup to the Academy Awards race, so the big nominations haul could make an early favorite out of "Atonement," which just opened theatrically last week. Denzel Washington, director of "The Great Debaters," had a best dramatic actor nomination for "American Gangster," in which he plays a 1970s Harlem heroin baron. Russell Crowe, who plays the cop who brings him down, was snubbed by Globe voters, though. For more Globes news, check out the New York Times piece.

"Game On!" As another group of volatile performers try to squeeze their over inflated egos into a small theater, to get praise and accolades for things they are already paid millions to do.

This event will be decidedly Black, but from the "goings on" at the Video Music Awards earlier this year, we now know front'n, cuss'n, fight'n and generally acting a fool is no longer limited to Black Performers. (Have Tommy Lee and Kid Rock made friends yet?)

So if celebs "mixing it up" is your thing and you are "ready to rumble" here are the performers so far who have RSVP'd and might show up on your fight score card that night.

T.I. and Soulja Boy join previously announced performers Nelly, Lil' Wayne, Kanye West and Common, Wyclef Jean, Keyshia Cole, Cassidy, Dizzee Rascal, DJ Premiere, Joell Ortiz, Kardinal Offishall, Lil' Mama, Phonte, Ras Kass and Status Quo will make appearances at the event, which will tape at Atlanta's Civic Center on Saturday, October 13 and air on BET on Wednesday, October 17 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

This year's show will include an appearance by Soulja Boy, one of hip hop's up-and-coming stars, performing his #1 hit, "Crank Dat."
As part of his performance, Soulja Boy is inviting viewers to showcase their moves by submitting video renditions of themselves doing the "Crank Dat" dance. Lucky fans will have those videos aired at this year's BET HIP HOP AWARDS 2007 via a video wall to serve as the backdrop during Soulja Boy's performance. ATL native T.I. leads the BET HIP HOP AWARDS 2007 nominees with nine nods, Lil' Wayne with seven, Kanye West with six, Common with five, Jay-Z with four, Ludacris and 50 Cent with three, and Diddy and UGK with two. Also, the legendary hip-hop artist KRS-One, known for his political and socially conscious raps, will be honored with the "I Am Hip Hop" Icon Award.

Last year's inaugural BET HIP HOP AWARDS 2006 drew an impressive 2.93 rating, which translated into 3.64 million viewers (2.44 million households) according to Nielsen Media Research. The show featured massive hip-hop stars Diddy, Busta Rhymes, Snoop Dogg, Nelly, Chamillionaire, Yung Joc, Keyshia Cole, Remy Ma, Rick Ross and the dirty south's own Jermaine Dupri, Ludacris, T.I. and Young Jeezy, among others. Additionally, it honored one of the hip-hop world's pioneering figures, Grandmaster Flash, with the "I Am Hip Hop" Icon Award.

MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS: JUSTIN AND BEYONCE TOP NOMINATIONS

Beyoncé and Justin lead the way with seven MTV Video Music Awards nominations!

Melody makers and singing sensations alike are set to take over Sin City when the "2007 MTV Video Music Awards" airs on Sunday, September 9. Knowles and Timberlake tied with the most nods -- including Video of the Year.

Right on their heels were Kanye West and Rihana with five nominations each, while musical powerhouse Amy "Rehab" Winehouse was honored with three.

The energetic event will be held at the Palms Casino Resort and a number of superstars will be rocking out as they perform some of their biggest hits. Set to take the stage are the Foo Fighters, Fall Out Boy and Lily Allen, just to name a few.

This year's "VMAs" will be paired down with only eight categories being announced during the two-hour show including four-all new ones: Male/Female Artist of the Year; Most Earthshattering Collaboration; Monster Single of the Year and Quadruple Threat Award.

This morning the Emmy awards were announced and it looks like Black folks will be front and center up in the house.

Shonda Rhimes' "Grey's Anatomy" was diagnosed as worthy of a Best Drama Emmy nod and we couldn't be happier. Not letting the controversy over Isiaih Washington spoil the party, Chandra Wilson was also rewarded with a nomination for best supporting actress in a dramatic series.

ISIAIH GETS ANOTHER "BIONIC" CHANCE

Although checked into a different hospital, Oscar winner Forest Whitaker garnered a nod for outstanding guest actor in a drama series when he cut up on NBC's "ER." (Anybody else missing Eric LaSalle on that show?)

Speaking of drama, the other best-drama series were “Boston Legal,” “House,” “Heroes,” and "The Sopranos," the HBO mob series that went to its grave this year. With 15 nominations, it looks like heaven is definitely smiling on Tony Soprano.

PRODUCTION STARTS ON SHONDA'S NEW TAYE DIGGS MED SHOW, "PRIVATE PRACTICE"

"Ugly Betty,” based on a Colombian telenovela, made it into the ranks of best comedy series nominees. Star America Ferrera was recognized with a nomination for her starring role, with Vanessa L. Williams also receiving recognition in the outstanding supporting actress category.

Speaking of comedy, the always hilarious "That's So Raven" was nominated in the outstanding children's programming category. As a star and producer of the hit Disney Channel show, looks like Bill Cosby taught Raven Simone well.

While Queen Latifah's "Life Support" on HBO landed her an outstanding lead actress in a miniseries nomination, Spike Lee also gave the cable channel something to smile about. His "When The Levees Broke: A Requiem In 4 Acts" received several nods, including outstanding direction for a non-fiction program.

Finally, we have to mention Wanda Sykes HBO special "Sick & Tired," getting a nod for outstanding variety, or music special. You so crazy Wanda!

The bids for the 59th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards were announced in a brief ceremony at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre.

Ellen Beats The View at Daytime Emmys

Not even Rosie O'Donnell and her big-fat-lesbian headline-grabbing year at The View could top Ellen DeGeneres.

DeGeneres's show won six trophies, including her fourth straight win for best talk show and third straight victory as best talk-show host.

Speaking about her View competition, the other gay daytime queen added, "I really am shocked. ... I thought Rosie brought a lot of new viewers to daytime television and it was interesting."

And with that, she decided she wanted to follow Rosie, Elisabeth and company and become more controversial, the Associated Press reports.

"I know this might not be popular and I don't care because that's what I'm doing," she said. "I just want to say it – I think Bob Barker is a quitter."

It was a big night for Barker, 83, who got the call to "Come on Down!" from DeGeneres to receive his 19th award for best game-show host.

Backstage, when asked who could fill his shoes as host of Price Is Right, Barker floated Rosie O'Donnell as a possible successor.

"I believe they're going to have a meeting with Rosie," Barker told reporters backstage, according to AP.

"She knows the show. There's no doubt in my mind she could do the show," he said.

"Now, whether they want a lady host, I don't know. I've never heard that discussed. As far as I know, they've only auditioned men."
