Last night Syesha was voted off American Idol 2008. I admit, weeks ago, I was surpised to see Syesha in the top six of this years competition. Up till then she was consistently in the bottom of vote getters. But Andrew Lloyd Webber night put her on the map and showed she had the goods. Last night she was not allowed to exit gracefully as she became the object of unecessary critisim. The whole world knew in the end she would exit leaving a showdown between the two Davids. It didn't have to be so ugly.

Trying to clear the way for the two Davids, all the judges criticized Syesha during the show, even Paula, who is the softest and usually has something nice to say about every contestant.

It was strange to see Syesha criticized so much just as she was giving her best and had started to have more confidence and be more open. In the last shows, Syesha proved she was not only a singer, but could also make a good entertainer, showing off her dancing skills and trying to be as expressive as possible. Well, all her efforts were in vain, as her fate was pretty much decided already.

Goodbye Brooke White, You Won't Be Winning American Idol 2008!!!

One night after the Final 5 crooned evergreen Neil Diamond tunes, America sang goodbye to Brooke White, narrowing the contest down to four.

"I just wanna say thank you," Brooke said, tears streaming down her face. "It's gonna be terrible for me right now!" She nonetheless managed to reprise Diamond's "I Am … I Said," while fellow finalists David Cook, Jason Castro, David Archuleta and Syesha Mercado stood behind her in a show of support.

OK I must be totally out of touch with American Idol 2008 because the above picture shows last nights bottom three. All the blogs I have read and reviews I have seen on TV predicted that either Carly Smithson or Syesha Mercado would be getting kicked off the show, well they were all wrong! Leaving the show was surprise, Michael Johns.

OK, the two Blonds last Tuesday did 'all right" but please, there is no flavor going on in this show. Syesha is the soul of the season and if 'rocker girl' Smithson would just cover up those tattoos, America could focus on the fact that the girl can sing her a** off. Note, when all the contestants had their final group song Carly Smithson, ala' Patti Labelle, had the bulk of the solo work that landed squarely on top of that chorus of bland vanilla the rest of them were putting out.

American Idol Tearful Good Bye for Ramiele Malubay

No matter what you think of her wonderful voice, American Idol's Ramiele Malubay will be missed. Let's face it she's cute, charming, sexy and different, because rarely do any singers of Asian decent make it this far. But the thing I will miss most are her interviews with Ryan Seacrest after her performance each week. During these moments I would sit mesmerized at Ramiele height and befuddled how that dwarf of a man Ryan Seacrest could tower over Ramiele or anyone for that matter. It was a super tearful goodbye for Ramiele Malubay, but fear not after the Idol tour this year I can easily see Ramiele in a revival touring company of the musical Miss Saigon. So when it happens remember you heard it hear first.

Emergency Health Scare For Idol Favorite David Cook

"American Idol" contestant David Cook was rushed to the hospital last night after experiencing heart palpitations and high blood pressure.

Released a few hours later, the white rocker's condition was still not resolved.

As first reported by TMZ, Cook was not feeling well during the day and his condition worsened after his performance. Cook was examined by show medics who determined his blood pressure was "far too high." Cook was urged to leave but wanted to wait it out.

An "A.I." exec tells us Cook has been completely stressed out because his brother, who has been sick with cancer, had a setback within the last week. Earlier in the season, just before a performance, David collapsed and said he could not go on -- though he pulled it together at the last minute.

Folks Who Get It: White Rocker David Cook Tears Up Jackson's Billie Jean On American Idol

Though Chris Cornell was acknowledged to be the source of David Cook's "Billie Jean" rearrangement on last week's American Idol, another band has come out demanding Cook (pictured) credit their cover of "Eleanor Rigby."

Doxology, a rock-soul group out of Seattle (who happen to be pals with last season's runner-up Blake Lewis), claim that on March 11 Cook performed their version of the Beatles' classic — which has been available on the band's myspace page and iTunes since January 2007 — without crediting them.

In a statement issued to the press on Saturday, lead vocalist Luke McPherson contends, "When given the opportunity to speak up and reveal where the arrangement came from, David Cook did not. His silence on the issue implies that the arrangement is his own. It is not." The band is careful to note that they are fans of the show and they are not seeking royalties (which they would have earned off of iTunes sales had their name been mentioned on air). Their impetus: "We just want David Cook and American Idol to do the right thing and acknowledge these facts. It's that simple." Whether Cook was actually aware of their version is still unclear as representatives for Fox could not be reached for comment over the weekend.

Blacks Not Voting For American Idol, As Black Contestants Land At the Bottom

There were only two Black contestants in the American Idol competition and last night they were both at the bottom of the voting, along with a White guy who thinks he's Black by the dreaded hair he wears. I don't know if these three are the worst talents or if Black folks in America just aren't voting. But last night Chikezie was kicked off. Granted that Luther Vandross version of 'Only For One Night" was a snoozer... But check my man Chikezie out above, two weeks ago, when he blew them away with his bluegrass funk/rock version of the Beatles, "She's a Woman".
In the mean time has contestant Syesha Mercado got too much attitude for Black and White audiences alike? Others are saying...


Interestingly enough, Syesha's near disaster this week also seemed more attributable to her chilly personality than actual singing ability. To me, her renditions the last two weeks of ''If I Was Your Woman'' and ''Yesterday'' were more powerfully sung than any of her female competitors' performances, and yet, for some reason, I still haven't found myself getting excited by Ms. Mercado. There's something off-putting about her interview clips, the way she's constantly flashing that stage smile whenever the cameras zoom in on her. And I'm not alone in my ambivalence.

Kimberley Locke Returns to Idol Tonight 30lbs Lighter

Kimberley Locke finished third behind Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken in season Two of American Idol. Since then she has proven to be her own shining star. First with her Curb Record contract (Warner Music Group), then her Ford Modeling contract, then with her delicious "bu dunk ka' dunk" featured in the national Layne Bryant clothing campaign and opening her own restaurant.

Well tonight she returns to American Idol with a new R&B sound, shedding her country roots. She also brings a new look having shed 30lbs of weight. Personally the bigger Kimberley was the better Kimberley, but catch Idol tonight and you decide. Her new sound album, titled 'Based on a True Story,' drops on May 1.

SEASON SINGS "LIGHT MY FIRE"

I don't know about you but for me this season of Idol is really not getting the job done. I mean these are mediocre voices, with two or three a little above average. I could probably tolerate it all if not for the 90% lack of personality! As Simon has said over and over, "wow, there are a whole lot of unmemorable performances going on up there".

Last nights show was a travesty as one of maybe three contestants with any kind of star power and personality was voted off, rocker with the blond/black mane of hair Amanda Overmyer. In the end she gets beat out by the boring blond, Kristy Lee Cook, the girl Simon labeled "Ms. Musical Wall Paper",

Amanda hang on, you have a major deal coming your way!

The big looser in this, is the American Idol show itself, as viewers tune out on this "snooze a'thon". Just to check back in for the final show. And what was up with this weeks music selection. Two weeks in a row of music of the Beatles. Was there a music clearance problem? Who got fired over this dumb decision. It showed in the performances and was brought up by the judges that back-to-back weeks of the Beatles. "may not have been a good idea". Wow! Ya' think!

In the end only the last 10 performers get to do the "Idol Tour" which follows each season and that leaves Amanda Overmyer out. Music producer Clive Davis, you need to scoop Amanda up, sign her and feature her on the next Santana CD!
