Girlfight! The Battle of The Aging Black Divas: Tina Vs. Aretha

Aretha Franklin's response to Tina Turner statement in USA TODAY

"I have always appreciated what Tina Turner has to offer and had quietly cheered her on after Ike and her subsequent success. However, with respect to her statement concerning my ego (in saying, 'Her ego must be so big to think she was the only one … that's how queens are') clearly she was talking about herself as she described herself as the 'Queen of Rock' and saying 'that's what Queens do' — particularly since she does not have a clue as to who I am in view of the fact that we have never met."

Oh, it gets better family.

"I never figured her to resort to tacky press just to sell a few tickets. I understand and I know that the concert market is down where ticket sales are concerned. I really had put her in a different class — higher than that.

"Finally, no one has been more gracious or complimentary to their peers than I have and I am confident and secure enough to do so, unlike some others. I wish Ms. Turner all the best, as I always have. Perhaps one day we will meet."

Remember How Bad Chaka Khan Was Back In The Day???

Well, the Black entertainment legend has been named the celebrity face of the new antioxidant health beverage, PURPLE.

The Purple product launch and announcement coincides with Chaka Khan's Broadway debut in the hit theatrical musical, The Color Purple. Rehearsal for The Color Purple production begins in December 2007 with a premiere on Broadway January 9, 2008

"We are excited to work with Chaka Khan. She's a true legend," said Ted Farnsworth, CEO of the Purple Beverage Company. "Chaka's is a beautiful star that continues to shine as brightly as ever. We are thrilled that she has chosen to shine a bit of that light on PURPLE.

Chaka's into purple alright, but maybe she needs to double up on her dosage.

The "Whatcha Gonna Do For Me" crooner was recently spotted at LAX wearing some colorful Uggs with matching purple tracks in her hair. Now we feel for you Lady C, but we must insist that you cease and desist with going out in public seriously downgrading your brand.

Because we love Chaka so much, however, let's give our girl some old school love -- shall we:
