Public Cool To Sistergirl Michelle, Doesn't Know Cindy's "Baggage"

The public hasn't taken to Michelle Obama yet, especially whites. And it's got a question about Cindy McCain: Who is she?

People are divided over whether they like the wife of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, with 30 percent seeing her favorably and 35 percent unfavorably, according to an Associated Press-Yahoo News poll released Wednesday.

They tilt positively toward the spouse of Republican hopeful John McCain, by 27 percent to 17 percent.

In other words: While the two women are about equally liked, Michelle Obama is twice as disliked as Cindy McCain.

"Cindy seems like she's laid back and not trying to run her husband," said Linda Kaiser, 60, a Republican and church secretary from Clairton, Pa. "It's nice to have a brain, but they should let their husband be president."

Whites have an unfavorable view of Michelle Obama by 18 percentage points, while eight in 10 blacks like her. That is reminiscent of how Barack Obama fared in the Democratic primaries against Hillary Rodham Clinton.

In the AP-Yahoo News poll, whites saw Cindy McCain positively by 17 points, while one in eight blacks like her.

Michelle Obama does better with unmarried people and college graduates but is viewed poorly by people age 65 and up. Cindy McCain is seen more favorably by older people, those who are married and the more affluent, but she is less well-received by singles.

Cindy McCain is also more of a mystery. Nearly six in 10, or 56 percent, said they know too little to say much about her — exceeding the 34 percent clueless about Michelle Obama. Half of Republicans say they don't know Cindy McCain, while three in 10 Democrats say that about Michelle Obama.

Barack Obama's wife seems to incite stronger feelings. One in five had very negative views of her, triple the number who said so about John McCain's wife. One in 10 had very favorable views of Michelle Obama, double Cindy McCain's number. (AP)

Michelle Obama Clarifies To The Rest Of Y'all Her "Proud" Statement

Last week Michelle Obama our soul sistah' number one made the following comment:

"For the first time in my adult life, I am really proud of my country. Not just because Barack is doing well, but I think people are hungry for change."

I get it. I understand it. My 80-something-year-old mother in Virginia understands it. All my great aunts, uncles and every one at my hair salon understand this comment. So why is there a huge cry from the press and others for Michelle and Barack to spend the last three days clarify the statement?

And when Cindy McCain, wife of Republican presidential contender John McCain, later sought to capitalize on the remark, saying "I have, and always will be, proud of my country."

WE, (the aforementioned) understand this comment too, and I ask where is her clarification of this statement? Because from where I come from there is a lot implied when you look at the sorted history of the US and its treatment of Indians, African Americans immigrants and the poor. Cindy McCain which part of this history are you most proud of. Please clarify?

Asked by WJAR-TV if she would like to clarify her comment, Obama replied that she has been struck by the number of people going to rallies and watching debates, as well as record voter turnouts.

"What I was clearly talking about was that I'm proud in how Americans are engaging in the political process," she said.

"For the first time in my lifetime, I'm seeing people rolling up their sleeves in a way that I haven't seen and really trying to figure this out — and that's the source of pride that I was talking about," she added.

When asked if she had always been proud of her country, she replied "absolutely" and said she and her husband would not be where they are now if not for the opportunities of America.

McCain Love Tryst, Wife Cindy Says, “No Way!” and Stands By Her Man. Can Black Women Say The Same?

The New York Times and many Internet sites (including this one) two days ago came out with the story that Republican Presidential Candidate John McCain was possibly linked romantically or at least professionally inappropriate with Washington Lobbyist Vicki Iseman. Ironically since this story came out, McCain’s campaign has seen a giant increase in donations.

Also Republican Party members from the “far right”, who by now should have left, are actually warming up to McCain. And for all of this, Sistah’s we need to credit his slammin' wife Cindy McCain. Because unlike a lot of Black women, Cindy is standing by her man.

Have you done the same?

Like any good woman who's man is in a battle for his political and financial future, Cindy is there for her man and yes admittedly a little bit for herself. The images of her coming out in support of her man has put a face on what “They”, "the evil librels" will do to stop John from being President. So money is flowing in, so that John and Cindy McCain’s can tell their story, "Americas Story" from the White House.

Even Republicans of the ‘far right’ now see in the McCains, "family values" and a cohesive unit that has “righteous indignation”. And we know no one has more righteous indignation, than the members of the ‘far right’. So the one sector of the Republican Party that before was not backing McCain is warming up… quickly.

"Stand By Your Man" ladies. Black women need to take a page from Cindy’s book. A lot of time when the brothas mess up you alll are the first to throw him under the bus.

This kind of love and support is not unheard of in White families in crisis. A look at former First Ladies Eleanor Roosevelt and Jackie Kennedy illustrate how you handle such dalliances.

History has proven both these women to be bigger and more popular figures, in part, for how they handled their business.

If Bill Clinton had never had the affair with Monica, I dare say we would not be even considering Hillary for the nomination.

During the whole mess that President Bill put Hillary through, with denial, denial, denial and then the confession of admitted oral sex with Monica, Hill stood by him. And because she did, this is what happened. In the beginning she was the heroic good wife and in the end she was the victim of a husband with horribly poor judgment, who was willing to forgive him and work it out.

So in the end, the event did two things. First, If I may use the word, it “humanized” Hillary to the American public, and in doing so raised her popularity to unknown hights. Second, it created her political career. This newfound popularity is what the ‘politico’s’ saw, and it's what made them believe she could become a US Senator and and one day run for President. Of course you remember those “humanizing tears” are what helped get Hillary that “comeback” in New Hampshire. (I hope her campaign manager is reading this.)

But I digress, because the question I pose to my sistahs is: Has your man ever been accused of doing wrong, and did you stick with him?
